Where in US is Sphagnum moss sold/Klonex questions

Use a lot of caution with those skunks. I have seen two people who got a dose of their perfume, and countless numbers of dogs. Used to get them quite often when I had chickens, now days smell them in the cotton filed behind house about twice a year.
One of my best friends got one inside of their house about 2 years ago and in one bedroom it still has the smell.

I have some stray kittens and felt sorry for them. I set a trap to catch them to take them into a shelter. Found out after a week of no catches what it was that was digging into my seedlings. A skunk was in the trap.I could deal with almost anything but a stinky skunk. I had to pay 170 to have a critter control take it and I just gave them my new trap.
There are still skunks in the neighborhood, though. I had to help my bil across the street to chase one from his shed. The critter guy said to use a hose to move them as they think it is raining and try to leave for some shelter.
My hibs are almost done for the year. It has been a nice year of even rain instead of the scorching drought we had last year.
The Maximilliani look great staked up like that. I think the skunk dug up my sf roots also looking for grubs. I had one sickly maxsf and now it is no more. I will find my seeds and try to start them in a pot.I have the goldfinch and that is what I most love is watching them swoop in and around them.

Hi there windy, long time no see! Good to see you here. Well, we put two traps out with some sardines in them and we have not seen hide nor hair of our two striped friends. We did smell one last week during the night. The traps ar still empty . Next time you might want to cover yourself in a sheet and Walt to the trap and throw the sheet over it. I can't believe how much it cost you. We have the have a heart traps too. My daughter caught three cats and took them to get fixed now they boss her around.. Lol.. None of the three have tails . Isn't that something?

Here are the cuttings doing something, I don't know hat, they are spreading like mushrooms on he bottoms and do have several white nubs, so those are supposed to turn not roots. These are Blur River cuttings.

Both James, how are your cuttings doing?

I had the cage completely covered with a heavy towel and put some branches in front of it.But I was still too chicken to open it and let it out on my own.Paying the critter guy! lol
My Aphrodite ros is taking off this year. I think itis three years old now.
The only hibs I have now are all through for the season or maybe the turn of the century one is going to put another show on. It has developed more buds.
I also have bought two tropical hib tree forms from a couple of nursuries here. I usually don't buy tropicals but they were only $5 a piece as the shops wanted to clear them out, One is a double. I should take pictures before they also tap out for the season.

Sweet autumn clematis is the only type I ever grew from seed. This year I bought one at the nursery along with The President. I put one on each side of an arbor and the autumn far outgrew the other. I may have to move the President next year or it will be covered up. I am enjoying my yard more this year since we have moisture . Only thing I can't get to grow is the sunflowers from seed. The slugs keep eating the seedlings.
I am determined to grow them , I won't give up as they are my favorite bog guys.
My next project is growing roses from seed.

Mesilla Park, NM

I used to have sweet autumn clematis in California . I'm starting over with Clem's now. Maybe try putting a circle of cornmeal around the sunflower seedlings when they sprout.

Anyone getting roots? I have potted up a dozen confederate rosé rooted cuttings but can't seem to keep them alive after a couple of weeks. Out of a dozen I only have five left alive. I need more humidity and I have been misting them several times daily with a spray bottle. Anyone have any ideas fr me. I took more cuttings in hopes that I can get more going. I've promised someone several rooted cuttings so I have to keep trying.

Have you ever tried those mister hoses? Also there is this plastic snake like thing I got from Home Depot last year. It is an upright hard pvc type plastic and it attaches to a hose. I anchor mine with a garden staple so it doesn't topple over. It has a very fine mist. I also got the mister hose from Lowe's I think it was years ago. I don't have it anymore, but when I was in Alabama I tacked it to my privacy fence and would mist my plants when it got hot and dry.I will try to google them and see if I can find links to them.

LOOK! I got a root on the small cutting.. It's a start. I hope you can see it in the photos, it is just a little root, but its there.

Windy, I have a tripod sprinkler out doors and a fan that sprays water. The thing is that I have the cuttings indoors. So I mist them now with a spray bottle. The ones I have eft are doing fine so far and I plan to mail them out next week. I want them strong enough to take their trip.. I have to ack those babies carefully.

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

someone sent me cuttings in the mail of hibiscus and they did fine. With a root on it they are surely going to be ok.
Good luck anyway. Yeah a mister indoors would be funny! Talk about mold growing. lol

I was looking at things online and came across a local pet shop that sells reptiles. They had moss's for sale. I bet you might go to a similar shop in your area and find the moss you wanted. They use them for the terrarium setups.

I can ship sphagnum along with almost anything else used in growing tropical plants. I purchase mine by the bale, and then stuff it tightly in 4 and 8 qt. bags for my own use or to sell. My sphagnum is premium, extra-long fibered New Zealand moss. Contact me by D-Mail if you can't find what you want.

Hello Windy, and Ken,mi found a bale at one of the nurseries here this ast weekend. It is Canadian spahgnum peat moss, I Al's was able to get a couple of bags of the long fiber type, I'm trying a couple of hard to root cutting to see how I do.

It does remind me of the peat moss that is available at HD. Umm, I takes a long time for te water to moisten it. I have been using hot water on it.

Thank you both for responding.

I use to have a small root cellar outside , After it went into disuse , Sphagnum use to grow in it , ?
Got some Clonex with a C I think I like it , more later ..

K; I will keep that link ..

Mesilla Park, NM

Expensive clonex bottle huh? I was trying o think of what they mix with molasses to make things root and bloom.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Only the sample to start with , If I like it well , I will buy a bottle , I use to know that , the molasses mix , I have seen it done with a few grains of vitamins , indole &butyric acid

Another different mix , is potato water , spoiled , That's butyric acid ,(bad odor)

Another is egg white ..
I don't know the combinations , but it excites the imagination .

Mesilla Park, NM

It sure does...lol. I remembered , I think it is Epsom salts that you add to the molasses

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

My turn to smile & giggle ^_^ I have that in my notes also ..

Mesilla Park, NM

Got my molasses today, brugs, here i come..

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Soo,, it works on Brugs and Breakfast Cakes , ? Without (Hold) the Epsom Salts on the Cakes ,
Pardon, I couldn't resist ..

Mesilla Park, NM

If I wasn't so tired, I'd make some hot cakes, some recipes
