I was waiting to see who would start the June thread, but my blooms are coming on and I wanted to share.
Gazania, gaura and ordinary petunias that take me back to my childhood.
A huge pink rain lily and one last bottlebrush bloom.
June Flowers Thanks to May Showers
image 2, the airy white flower, is gaura? I ended up with one that was destined for a customer's trash last year, she said it never bloomed for her, but it's feet were crowded and drought plus shade. Blooms like crazy here. (I should take pictures)
They are all beautiful And I've never seen rain lily or red bottlebrush before
Thanks, here is a pic from a few weeks ago (last one) of my weeping bottle brush. This bloom is from a smaller one in my back yard, for some reason later than the rest. I love gaura, they are so delicate and really put on a show.
The first two pics are blurry for some reason, some of my snapdragons and a cosmos I received at RU.
My other gaura which is pink this year. And another RU flower that is really growing well, verbena I think?
My free gomphrea, my dusty miller has never been this happy. I have had it for years and never knew it bloomed.
My desert willows are both blooming but the wind is knocking a lot of them off.
Ruella in blue, does anyone have pink? I would love some seeds.
And one of my blanket flower variations. Last year I saw one like this, now I have several different areas with this bloom shape.
Lantana horrida (Which is such a horrible name for such a pretty plant!)
The first Cowpen Daisies of the year. Hooray!
Partially opened volunteer sunflower (pretty sure this is a Lemon Queen).
First Rock Rose of the season...from a volunteer by the compost pile. :)
Daylily 'San Antonio Firecracker' in honor of my hometown.
Pink skullcap. I started with one teeny tiny plant and ended up with this. Not sure where the white came from since I never added any plants to the mix. It's in desperate need of a trim, which will happen soon, but the last time I went to trim it, I found a large garter snake hiding under the growth, so I'm not too excited to trim it up.
Tennessee Coneflowers
Zexmenia
My first passiflora foetida flower of the year! It was hiding from me, but I found it!
These are not blooms, but this is the brick walkway to my front door. It's loaded with volunteer plants from the flower bed to the right. The leaves provide a nice mulch, don't they?? LOL
Stephanie, I hope my little skullcap grows to the size of yours! We have lots of leaves here in the fall and I really should utilize them more.
Love the ground squirrels.
I hope trimming the skullcap goes well!
I love seeing what blooms around Texas.Does anyone grow bottlebush in FW area?
#1This cooler spring has allowed some zone stressed plants bloom, like the allium.
#2I have had that Asters disease on my coneflowers 2 years ago, but this batch that came from seed looks good so far
.#3 Ofcourse daylilies are in fine form
Anna, I love coneflowers too, but " the yellows " disease has made its appearance here as well, they start to look deformed or the flowers are all green with no color at all, and as far as i know there is no cure for it, other than removal.
I hate to take them out, does anyone know of a cure?
I am sorry to hear that Josephine.
Even this year I have spotted it in one purple and one white coneflower. I trashed them both. Atleast the rest are fine so far. I read it is related to that rose rosette disease that also has no cure. (where is that sad emoticon?)
Wow Cheryl, is that Downy Skulcap? that looks great!!
Yes, you gave me one and I loved it so much I ordered two more! This one is the only one in bloom atm.
C
Very nice Sweetmommy.
I like the downy skullcap!
Me too. It's become a favorite. Thanks to Joe for giving it to me. No luck with seeds so far and very limited luck from cuttings. I need propagation classes.
Once in a while a seedling comes up, I need to try harder with cuttings too.
I need to propagate S. resinosa too but haven't tried yet.
Oh my gosh Cheryl, I sure hope they live, I am so in love with Zinnia grandiflora, it is just the ticket for my low bed.
Thank you so very much.
We'll see, they had pretty good roots. I am curious to see how they would do in regular soil. I know they need good drainage.
c
Everwilde I think. Its been a couple years.
The lantana is such a pretty color.
I've never heard of Zinnia Grandiflora. Does it grow well in this area? Cheryl, where did you get them? I love Zinnias, so might have to add this to my flowerbed ... there must be more room to be had, right? :-)
Carla
I mail ordered them from high country gardens last year, prior to their being sold etc. I think they need really good drainage but I am going to try them in a reg. bed if I get some going. The ones I have now are in a raised cactus bed with mostly sand/gravel and very little soil. They love it there and are spreading at an alarming rate.

That looks great, it will be a test at my house because i don't have that kind of soil or even close. We shall see.
Not sure how ti treat the transplants so no guarantee.
Congratulations Stephanie!!!
