Beautiful pictures everyone
Love those Lollypop Lilies.
Bloomin In June
Jen, your #4 lily sort of looks like lilium Linda??
1) Holly's cream marigolds - love these! we have them in a pot in front of the garden gate
2) Chantell's peanut butter shrub - likes the location so far. It has a Y split...should I prune it or leave it?
3) our hedge blooms were beautiful as always and fragrant too
4) honeysuckle shrubs are full of berries now. Robins and Catbirds love them
5) new Ghost fern
wind--
how does "Ghost Fern" differ from "Japanese painted Fern" ???
I have some of the JPF--It looks the same to me..... Gita
quote from this blog http://rotarygardens.blogspot.com/2012/03/ghost-fern.html ... "'Ghost' fern (Athyrium hybrida 'Ghost') which has quickly become one of my favorites to use around the part/dappled shade garden. This fern is a hybrid between the Japanese painted fern (Athyrium niponicum var. pictum) and the lady fern (Athyrium filix-femina)."
Gita, I just really liked it as soon as I spotted it. Our Japanese Red Painted Ferns have visible red areas to them (I like those too). Ghost is as the name sounds, more monotone white; no red except for some in the stems.
I should have brought more of those cream marigolds. I have a whole extra tray here, will pass out to the neighbors, next year I will bring more if they grow well.
David, what spray do you use to keep deer away from that beautiful lily? So many of my plants have been eaten by deer :-(
Sally, we don't have sprays for the deer. In the photo you can see some fencing and a patio chair. We have erected a number of unsightly barriers to thwart access and offend their aesthetics. We also place laundry (unwashed) to provide human scent and I sometimes take a diuretic. Parts of the yard look pretty strange until the lilies bloom. It also helps that we grow as many things as we do, they don't seem to manage to eat everything. By the way, I think your 'Blue Butterfly' is a Delphinium rather than a Penstemon.
I take it deer like to eat lilies?
David, I haven't seen Indian Pipes in years. That milkweed is beautiful.
Wow, I've never seen a white milkweed bloom before. Very pretty.
Donner, how do you like Veronica Royal Candles? Do they handle our heat and humidity ok? I love salvias and was thinking about adding veronicas as well.
LOL. Yes. The 'Blue Butterfly' is a Delphinium. It was a slip of the mind :o). I have made corrections. Thank you for catching it.
Wind, deer love lilies. I got quite a lot of lily bulbs this year, and most of them are headless now. There will be no flowers from them :o(.
SSG, Veronica 'Royal Candles' seems to do ok in our area. It blooms for a long time if you keep it deadheaded.
sitting back enjoying the show...
My first foxgloves, last year, were spectacular. But this year they turned out too short for the new place I put them...sad...maybe they were short because they were also sick.
June blooms Utah
Prickly pear (missed the best show on my own)
Columbine- ours were well done by this time. These are in cliff underhangs so its probably later to warm up.
Here is my Veronica 'Royal Candles' a real fav of mine. There are two of them with a pink "something" growing between. I think the pink "something" came from one of the swaps. Anyone recognize it?
David I have one for you, this really pretty bush is growing at the edge of the woods behind us do you know what it is. I thought it might be fragrant but it was hard to tell with the over whelming smell of a near by honeysuckle.
Holly, I'm not much help with shrubs, but I'm sure that you can get a quick ID on the Plant Identification forum. Your pink plant looks like another Veronica, perhaps 'Giles Van Hees'.
Thanks David I will check on Plant ID Forum. I figured it was a Veronica looks just like the Royal Candles but pink. Giles Van Hees sounds familiar to me I will look it up.
Holly, I gave you some Royal Candles at the swap last year -- if you didn't also get them from somebody else. There are also some pink ones in my garden which I forgot all about until I saw them bloom this year :o). This pink one must have got mixed in with the Royal Candles when I potted them up for you. I remember jamming a cluster of Veronica plants in one pot for you. Sorry, I don't know the name of the pink one. I think it came in the same pot with the Royal Candles when I bought the plant 3 years ago.
Beautiful lilies!!! The color of that last one is really intense.
I got a lot of lily bulbs in our group buy this year, but most of them have been eaten by deer :o(. The deer spray was always washed off by rain every time I used it. Oh well, there is always next year.
Those are really short lilies just 18/24 inches. Ric picked them up off the discount rack at Lowes after they bloomed. Just a $ a pot each pot had 4 or 5 bulbs in them. We didn't even plant them last fall they overwintered in the pots he brought them home in and the pots were cute too.
Shrub is Privet- sorry, not a well liked shrub, invasive
we really love our privet hedge. it is one of the best fragrances of our spring garden!! You can smell it in our back yard and the blooms are in the front yard. Bees love it too. I have read that it can be invasive. I actually ordered and paid for the ones we have. And, In all the years, we've only discovered one of two self sown offspring.
That "Visions" is a great color! Amazing how many beautiful Hydrangeas there are.
David very cool digitalis, it is almost orange.
I saw my fern leaf bleeding heart while spraying for lacebug and it still has a tiny bloom left. I've been really impressed with its staying power.
Maybe duplicating here--as I posted some of these on another Thread.
Not much--just wait another week--when all the DL will pop!
1--Chinese trumpet Lily Regale
2--Forever Susan Oriental Lilies
3--My other Clivia--now popping some blooms
4--Proteus Clematis--now in second bloom. Nothing even
close to the double 1st blooms!
5--Begonias and some pretty petunias in the Ex. WS bed. Dr. Seuss is in the middle.
It just opened its first bloom.
coleup, is that the hardy geranium you're sending to me via Jan? is it the burgundy blooms in the background?
Sitting back and watching the show :o)
June really is the best time for perennials in the Mid Atlantic. So many beautiful flowers!
Wind, No, it's a hardy begonia I am bringing.
thanks Coleup and Jan...hardy begonia!! I knew that... oops - confused it w/hardy geranium!! beautiful day in South Jersey today. wish the entire summer could stay like this. Will try and snap a few photos of what's blooming
