KendraSue's Poetry Contest.....or, Some Right Perty Words, Some Even Rhyme!

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

If I should win I want a large box of tissue and chicken soup (home made) please. Oh, and a nice dish of home made ice cream with some brownies (home made of course). I think I may feel better or at least I would think I did. The cold is trying to get me.

Easton, MD(Zone 5a)

RR,

I can't believe you had the nerve to eat anything that came out of Assawoman Bay. (SHOE will have a field day with that one). You know you have to bid on those ponies, the proceeds go to the local Fire Department. I don't even do real well on E-bay, so I think my chances of getting a pony would be slim.

Honi,

The best is a warm brownie topped with Mint Chocolate Chip icecream. I will see what I can do.

And how come you too want such "perishable" prizes???? You sure don't make this easy on a gal.

'The wife'
Dedicated to the troops and their wives.

In shimmering golds and sweet amber hues,
I watch the leaves fall and think only of you.
With each leaf that falls a story it sings,
of all the joy and happiness you bring.

And when it is bare and not a leaf on its length,
I think only of you, your courage, your strength.
And soon hope fills my heart for I know hope will bring,
The new life, the new growth, the green leaf of spring.

So dont worry my love, I will not wither and fade.
For I know you'll be home and I look for that day.
When standing on our porch, a familiar face I'll see,
My brave soldier man has come home to me.

I sat here so lonely
And nothing to do
Depressed, Down, Bored stiff
And ready to eat my shoe

I always liked flowers
but I had no clue
So I found DG
and said Woohoo!!

I only had 2 weeks
And I thought it would be over
Until an Angel came flying over

I was blessed by an angel
And now I can say
That I have made some friends
And am happy to stay

I may still be depressed
But that's just the disease in my brain
I know if I stay
I have plenty to gain

I may not say much at times
But that is because my head sometimes chimes
I get undecided and lonely too
And then I feel like eating another shoe

But I know you all are here
So I sit here and know I have nothing to fear
For friends I have
For friends I need
For friends you all are
And I feel better indeed :o)

OK Hold the fish! We haven't fished the Chesapeake Bay area for over 12 years! Still think you could BID on me a pony! I attended the "Pony Swim" one time...but had a wee yard then....now have 4 acres so could accommodate one or two! Aren't these poems getting better and better? I just love them all! Jo

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

What would be a good prize? For the winner to receive a pack of seeds from everyone else who submitted poems. LOL

Joan (who's figured out that she's a full-blown seedaholic.)

Crossville, TN

I have no seed...could buy some I guess...but have only been out here one season and haven't learned Desert Gardening yet...or any other kind much! DH is the one with the Green Thumb and he is ill now. I am in the process of saving some Bird of Paradise seed....but they will freeze out in colder climates. Have lots of Mesquite though! Jo

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Oh Jo - it was just a thought. I'm not going to win anyway, silly, you are! What would you like to see as a prize?

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

I think this is a contest that cannot be won
Because every entrys a winner, yes every one!

So If you want to know who won the prize
It may come to all as a huge suprise

That the winners are not the ones who write
but the ones who read them day and night!

For as of this post there have been 299 views
And with all those followers no one can lose!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

how about just a surprise package of various small things, your choice. I know many like surprise packages

Crossville, TN

Well, Joan...thanks for the good words, but I'm with Zany...We are ALL the winners...just for the chanch to share here. BUT... If I had my "druthers" the BEST prize I can think of would be to meet EACH of you in person! Getting to know ya'll on here has been such a delight to me...and would love to have a big "Dave's Garden Roundup"! I have learned so much in the short time I've been here that it is impossibe to explain....3 months ago I didn't have a clue what a "brug" was...now I'm trading for one! Keep the "pomes" coming! Jo

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

'kay, I agree with that. I'd love to meet everyone too. If I had my way we'd have a big virtual corporate convention with everyone's expenses paid. I read this thread several times a day and I love every post. I'm new to all this too, and I still have never seen a brug. I think they don't like snow. LOL

I was sitting here thinking what can I write
and then it hit me Assawoman delite.

Now shoe it ain't what you think so get out the boat
we'll head on down and catch some we hope.

We made the trip and what have we to show
Assawoman delite is all that I know.

Mike get out the grill cause we're on our way
Shoe and Clay have the fish from Assawoman bay

How did this place get such a name
From a dirty old man, ain't that a shame

If you ever decide that you want to go
Give me a call I'll be there I know.

Out My Window

Looking out my window what do I see
There is a bird there looking at me.

I ask what do you want me to do?
She gets up and flies out into the blue.

Soon she comes back with friends in Tow.
They all look at me and ask why don't you go.

I ask go where and they all seem to say
Go South where it's warm and come back in May.

I said I can't fly off until May. I am a person and not a blue jay.

She said you stay here feed the ones that winter here.
They will live because you are a dear.

I will do this for you dear birds that winter over
and maybe in summer I will see the new clover.

Had a long ride to Tucson and back today, so here is my newest"

I Love....
by: Roadrunner

I love the sunrise..beckonning me to wake,
Telling us the daily happenings are ours to make.

I love the slow and gentle rain drops
Encouraging the flowers to show their tops.

I love the rainbow, God's promise to me,
It's such a wondrous miracle for me to see.

I love the month of May when the cactus are in bloom,
And carpets of wild flowers covers Nature's room.

I love the summer sunshine, and children at their play
And when we can be in our gardens most of the day.

I love the Autum, it's colors are just so grand,
wind rustling in dried leaves, like a softly playing band.

I love the sunsets,,,they differ every night,
Each more magnificant...Oh! what a sight.

Now we come to winter...there's not much I want to say,
Wake me up and say "Hello" the first Spring Day!!

Maybe we can play.

Compare green thumbs!

We'll have tea,
Just you and me!

For the comfortable home in which we abide.

We thank You for the good food we consume.
And for all the nice friends here in this room.

They've brought us such happiness....and love untold!

We Thank You Lord, on this specail day.

The Day

Today is cold in my house
My daughter called about the mouse

There's paper on the floor
The dog is jumping on the door

I want to return to the bed and rest
but I don't know if that would be best

Would be nice to have a friend to go with shopping
but guess it will be a day like all others I'll be mopping

There must be more to life than this lonely time
because I can't think of anything to write that rhymes

The journey………….

I have travelled this planet both near and far
By plane and foot and by motor car
I have seen life in the making and such wondrous things
Ive seen happiness, sadness and such colour life brings.

But never, even in my wildest dreams
Did I ponder, imagine I’d burst at the seams
Whilst typing and tapping and wiping a tear
That I would find a virtual garden and then find myself here.

A garden you say, with flowers and such?
With mulch and bulbs? Well that’s a bit much!
You dig? You plant? You rake and you hoe?
What garden is this where seeds you can sow?

How can it be that on this confusing machine
That you plant and you grow such amazing things?
What have you found on your journey there
An interesting story I am going to share.

On a quiet old day, not much different to this
On my ‘putey’ I sat looking for friendship I missed
And I travelled to here and to my amazement I found
So many strange creatures, just lurking around!

I found vampires and fairy’s, pumpkins and brooms
With witches all screeching, flying around all the rooms
I saw scarecrows and Frankenstein , medusa and bats
And lots of stone statues, now what do you think of that?

I have hoe downed and partied and drank witches brew
I’ve had breakfast at Coco’s and fallen for Shoe
I have been shipwrecked and waterlogged on an island far away
And I think I am still there, to this very day!

I have shared all my problems till they melted away
I have chatted and emailed with so much to say
Talked of planting and cooking some gardening too
Shared a recipe, a joke and a snack trade or two

So when I tell you such a journey I have happily taken
If it sounds like hard work, your sadly mistaken
For a journey to the garden taken at least once a day
Will most certainly shoo all those old blues away

It’s a tonic, a ‘recipe’ a slave or a potion
So take the trip and get the wheels in motion
To a place that really isn’t so very far away
And bring some sunshine into a dreary old day.

By its_me_Laura

While walking in my yard one day,
a voice very clearly spoke to my head.
"Look at this junk...this mess...disarray!"
Yep, I tell ya, that's just what it said!

"What's it to ya?" I yelled at the top of my voice,
"I worked hard for this stuff that you're calling a mess!
My mower, my hoe-er, my digger of choice,
All done up in piles, and done neatly, no less!"

"There's no beauty, no flowers!" that voice dared yell back,
"USE that hoe-er, that mower, that digger of choice!"
I thought....and I thought.... a retort I did lack,
Oh the wisdom that came from that obnoxious voice!

I stomped to the house, in somewhat of a snit,
"You want beauty and flowers then THAT'S what you'll get!"
I lacked knowledge and guidance, so at the 'puter I lit,
and I'll tell you now, it's the best thing I've done yet!

On the net I did search, and Dave's Garden I found,
and before long I knew, that no further I'd roam.
I found knowledge and guidance, and friends all around,
Now it's my house, my yard, Dave's Garden.....HOME!

PS!!! My hubby's name is Dave too, so this hastily made up poem has two meanings for me.
