Why can't I upload images?

Jacksonville, TX

I am a paying member so why when I want to start a new topic am I not offered a chance to upload images?

Memphis, TN

I have that problem all the time. if I click on "Preview" and this hit my back browser button several times, the "Choose a File" option usually appears. It's aggravating.

Why are you hitting your browser's "Back" button at all, let alone multiple times?

Memphis, TN

I write my comments in the "Your message" area but the "Choose a File" button is not below it. If I click on "Preview" and then hit the back browser button (taking me back to my input page), the "Choose a File" button will sometimes be there. Other times, I have to go back and forth from my original input page to the Preview page and back several times before the "Choose a File" button appears and I can upload an image. It is really aggravating.

I have never heard of this being a problem. You should contact an Admin, and see if they can help you out.

Here is what is found below my "Your message:" box - every time...

You may upload up to 5 images. Press CTRL to select more than one image file.

I have sent a note to Terry about this thread.

When it first started to happen (last year?), I did notify the administrator. After some time, it began to occur less and less. For the last few weeks, it has been happening more often.

Here's a screenshot of what I am getting (not every time, but way too often). I posted this back in August, when the problem began. Thank you, growin -- I know the issue really doesn't belong on this thread.

I do recall this issue, but I don't recall the specifics of which browser you're using and if you've tried another browser. As far as I know, we can't replicate the problem, which means it's probably something in your browser settings.

Thanks, Terry, for your response. The only problem is that it works fine sometimes and acts up at other times. I am using Google Chrome all of the time. This afternoon, when the discussion came up, I could not get it to act up even once -- worked like a charm. Here's a screenshot of what I'm getting right now (had to do the back-and-forth thing to get the "Choose a File" button to appear so I could upload it....).

AbeandCC, do you see a link at the bottom of your new post to "Choose a File"? This area looks a little different than it will on subsequent posts to a thread, but that's how you upload images to the first post in a brand-new thread. Two tips:

1. Don't preview your post until you add your images.
2. You must have text in the text box in order to submit the images, so it's recommended to type your text, then choose a file (or files) to add to the post.

What version of Chrome are you running and have you modified/customized it with any add-ons?

Memphis, TN

Terry, I am using Version 26.0.1410.64 m of Chrome and no add-ons.

thanks - when this occurs are you able to try another browser to see if the problem persists?

Memphis, TN

I will try IE (v. 10.0.9200.16540) but it's done it there, too, in the past. It's not my favorite browser and I avoid using it if I can because it's so slow. I'll see if it works better there.

I bought a new camera. No problems uploading to various plant forums...but now I cant up load to DG as the " must be in jpg" message comes up. All my pics are of course,,jpg. I had no problems with my old camera..and it and the new are the same brand. I tried two different browsers...still get the same message.

And i did ask DG administers..my answer was "Happy Gardening"..! huh??? That was the whole message...

I just sent you a reply that explains what happens, and gave you some ideas for helping with the problem you're experiencing.

Terry, I am having this problem too when I use my Galaxy 3 smart phone. I have had my phone for about 6 months now, and just the past week I can not upload pictures, as the choose a file button is not there anymore.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

We haven't changed anything on our side, so my guess is it's related to your phone. Have you had any recent updates to your phone's operating system?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Not for sure, I will have to check!

Thanks!

Oop,I better finish what I started. I found that when I used the camera's software to sharpen the photos? THAT made the pics "too large" in file usage. Just lately I've been fiddling around and see I can sharpen up to 50% and it still posts to DG. Its over that 60% mark that seems to get rejected as too large.
And since its a better camera then my old one.. I learned also, that over sharpening was never needed.. a slight increase is all I ever need, some none. Other uses, like cropping or lightening dark areas are still hot and miss. But mostly, dont over sharpen. On low pixel cameras- yes that's fine. Newer?,no.

One more..I found that the camera is MUCH more website friendly in a 3 x 2 setting rather then the standard 4 x 3. It might be just my camera,I don't know.
