Chat and Swap thread PART 2 for the RU at Jan23's on May 18
I may wait to put my fig cuttings on my "have" list until I'm sure they are doing OK, but I'll search these threads for those who mentioned wanting them and hope to have plenty of rooted cuttings to cover requests. :-)
Jill, it turns out I do not need the 6 pack of tomatoes after all so hopefully someone else will need them. thank you.
happy- I have two bottlebrush buckeyes rooting in progress -You can have the next as soon as it seems ready., or I see you next. Will probably leave it attached and in ground at this point until fall.
SSgardener- I have lots of BLue Spruce Sedum ready for you if Ric and Holly do not mind taking it this weekend and babysitting (tossing pots in the shade till swap time)
Thank you, Sally!
Me too Sally! And I would be very happy to babysit all the Blue Spruce sedum you can bring down this way.
I did volunteer to be your "Plant Swap Fairy" if you'd like to request or have some you'd like to send along some plants especially any for our Northeast Forum swappers!
Oh, I want some swamp milkweed if you have some to share? No hurry, you are local.
Jill--
Far be it for me to mention to you how I keep track of other people's 'wants"....
When i am on the Chat Thread--and someone writes that they would like something from me--
I write it down on a pad of paper.
Like--"Jill---2 daturas/some Angelonias/ and red Zinnias....."
Then--when I get a chance--I edit my Post and add the things people have asked for to my
"Promised To" list.
When i am getting ready for gathering up all my requested plants--I print out the "Promised to" list.
When you get old--you get used to writing notes about many things to help you remember...
It just becomes part of my life......Gita
Gita, my present lifestyle doesn't lend itself to handy notepads! Im usually on my laptop for just a moment or two, not necessarily in the same room. Not to worry, I'll work my way down through these threads before too long. :-)
''When you get old--you get used to writing notes about many things to help you remember..."
Well I've been old for some years now, then....
Oh coleup, I forgot, you did say that-- so do you want blue spruce or reiterating the ferrying offer...I have lots of blue spruce sedum, it grows crazy. The swamp milkweed tho, I do not currently have plants but do have seed. Also have the nice brown hanging basket that you asked me to save and return at some point. (Still need an address if we are meeting Saturday)
Sally - thank you so much for the bottlebrush buckeye, whenever it is ready to part from its parent! I read it can handle serious shade....
Yes, notes are good... took notes at the orientation session the other night for the pilot program I'm in... nobody else did. LOL Old student habits die hard!
Great idea too to jot things own as I work my way back through the threads... probably easier than flipping between windows!
SSG, sorry I will have to take the parsley off my HAVE list. Something ate all of them. The ornamental eggplants were also eaten, but luckily 3 of them survived and are currently sitting on the patio table.
I didn't know that critters ate herbs and nightshades :-(. Any tips?
Donner, that's no problem. I just checked the parsley jug and it looks like I finally got some germination!
Rabbits?
gita- If you're going to weed them out then yes.
OOtherwise I have a few mature plants of the regular pink and white that spit out babies every year. I'm looking for the red red bleeding hearts and "different" bleeding hearts and dicenturas, did I get the family right? I would take seeds if anybody has any different varieties. I need to collect some alba and regular bleeding hearts this year for everyone.
if anyone wants a clump of lemon balm, I dug up a clump today and saved it if interested JLMK (just let me know). I also dug up a nice holly tree seedling (12") if anyone wants that. The birds, especially Robins, love the red berries.
oohh my tea would love some lemon balm please
I have a small rooted Holly as well. Just found it while cleaning out there was a branch that self rooted in the loose soil. Pretty small but nice.
I guess I'll leave all the holly seedlings in the ground then and if anyone wants any we can dig them up the day of the swap. You don't need to ask for them as I think there are plenty to go around. I Was going to ask Jeff to remove them all.
We also have a LARGE yew that I would like to poll all of you when you come. I wanted to see how large it got. (little did I know). I saw some that were limbed up that I thought looked nice, or we can just cut it back or we can remove it. Maybe I'll make a poster and you all can post your votes there. Heehee.
Have I said I am getting excited?
me too.. can't wait!!
Paul--
SO? Do you want some BH's then--or not. They are nothing special--the pink ones.
They are still too tiny to dig out--but, by the Swap--I bet they will be about 2" tall.
I will probably pot up some anyway. There's always people at my HD that will take anything for free....
SS-- The HD has all Bonnie 4" and 5" veggies and herbs on sale again this week. 5/$10.
You can just go and purchase a couple pots of Parsley--all nice and big already.
They also have nice Mints--all kinds of basil--a slew of Tomato plants (lots of Heirlooms too)--etc..
This sale would be ending next Wed. night. Gita
Gita- no thanks. I appreciate you thinking of me though.
Gita -- I've love extra bleeding heart if no one else wants them -- I already have many so I don't want to take them from anyone who wants/needs them, but I know just the spot I'd put more in if I had them.
Happy--
I will be glad to pot some up for you.
you DO understand that these are seeds--just sprouting, naturally, in the bed?
You will, probably, have to keep them in pots for a year or so, until they are big enough
to "rough it out" on their own.
I am not sure (ask coleup), but I thought she once told me that it may take 3 years
before you can hope for any blooms.
See here---this is how big they are now.......Gita
got you down onewish for the lemon balm. it spreads like a weed though, so I'd plan where you want to plant it.
sounds like there are plenty of Holly trees to go around... the trees grow so large, we don't have room for any more.
thank you.. and I always have a tub around for something like that Wind
Critter - I don't care for tiny tomatoes - but if you have any larger or paste tomatoes, I would love one. Don't say I didn't warn you about the onions!
Jan will babysit some tomatoes for me to give away. I gave her three of my "Aunt Jewels German beefsteak" which is a noir from the farmlands east of Charlotte.
I was gifted with two of Ric and holly's purple leafed plums (I think) and a quince, last September..didn't think I could put them anywhere....have found room for them, for now at least
; ^)
I have added Blue Spruce Sedum to my haves list
cause Sweet Sallyg brought down two huge pots and says she has more (We will miss you Sally!!! There goes your perfect attendance record...)
I only got one of your Aunt Jewels tomatoes last year, but that was one more than most of my maters. Not a good year.
I've also added Lemon Balm incase someone besides Onewish wants to lemon up their tea! I grow mine in containers and have noticed that plants stay smaller in a smaller container. I stick pots of it here and there to fill in empty spots. Does fine in shade but doesn't flower both a plus and a minus .
Gita Bleeding Hearts bloom for me second or third year from seed. I put 2-4 seedlings to a 3-4 inch pot.
I would like 2 - 5 pots of the hosta you have potted up. I'd like ones with a white edge and green inside. They will fill in a sidewalk border quite nicely! Good for you for doing that 'rescue' from neighbor. Hey, we have to fill those pots we save from the HD dumpster with something!
Judy---
Now i am confused----When I posted a picture of some of the Hostas--you wanted the one that
had the most white INSIDE the leaf--therefore--there is green around the edges. No?
I will post the pictures here again,
Could you tell me exactly how many you want? 2-5 is, sort of, indeterminate--
So far, Paul is taking four--I guess whatever kind I give him. They all look pretty much alike.
When they leaf out more fully--I will be able to see better....
Here is the picture again of the one you liked..... It is NOT edged in white........I have at least
two more that look like they will be the same. So--do you want all three of the "pronounced white" ones?
I can give you five--is that is your final decision....
looks like the bigger pot behind the one on Pic. #3 is all green. It is in a 10" HB.
Gita,
my apologies--- evidently my dyslexia goes to plant ID colors, too!. I thought your pictures above matched what I already have in my border (well close enough anyway...)but then I went and looked. The ones I want to match are white edge with green inside. Your second set of photos show one or two pots of white edge green inside. So, two pots will be great if it is no trouble. I have copied the picture from the second set you posted below that show the ones I mean (white pot to left and pot upper right)
Does anyone have a cutting of Setcretsia 'varigiata' to share? It's the variagated form of 'Purple Heart. My HD got one hanging basket of it (Angel Plants @ $14,98) I really like it and would reimburse the cost if you find one available...it is being sold in the House plant section, Thanks in advance for being on the lookout and sharing,
Judy
YankeeCat, The Wild Cherry tomato is one that I like to let ramble & reseed through the perennial bed in an ill mannered but very tasty way! I'll know better in a couple of weeks about extra tomatoes other than the "mixed" 6-packs, but odds are good I'll be able to offer you a couple to try. Depends on the whims of the weather and the appetite of the groundhogs!
Speaking of plants we're ISO - I too am trying to track down the following Exotic Angel hanging baskets found at Walmart, Home Depot and Lowes (Lowes seems to have the best selection): Hoya Australis 'Australis' Hoya Lacunosa Albo 'Snow Caps' Hoya Bella Variegata 'Variegated Waxleaf' Hoya Lacunosa 'Ruby Sue' & 'Royal Flush' Their pics can be found on the Exotic Angel website here: http://www.exoticangel.com/plant-library/species/hoya
I may have one or more of these - I'm going to try to get a better ID when I'm at work Monday. The issue is that SO many of their plants clearly have the incorrect tags - i.e. a hoya tag on a non hoya plant...we won't even discuss mixing up the hoyas. But you can't beat their prices given the size of their plants and I LOVE the scent of these blooms! I can send immediate pymt should you find one and pick it up for me. Thank you for any help locating these.
I like the variegated one
Judy--
I will be at work today. #Will check for that "Purple heart" for you.
IF I find it--I will buy it for you. That's what you wanted, right?
Will let you know.....
Chantelle---
Your "wish list" is too long.....sorry. I have seen the "Rubra"---I think.
Please go to your Lowes or HD and see.
Gita
Gita - I put that out for anyone that happens upon any of those. I certainly don't want anyone to feel pressured that they have to do my plant shopping. LOL. Nor would I ask if I'd not already checked my local stores. Matter a fact - I've hit some of these stores in Manassas, Williamsburg, Stafford and a few in Delaware. :-)
Yeah Gita.
Just to be clear, I already have lots of the regular solid color Purple heart setcretsea Picture #1
What I am looking for is the variegated form Picture #2. (Sometimes called 'Pink Stripe')
I really appreciate you being willing to look see if your HD may also have received one, probably just after Easter time...Hope you do find it and I will pay you back! Also, if you like it too, please help yourself to some cuttings
Coleup, thank you for picking up the blue spruce sedum!
