Was there a pod you didn't see & seeds got away from that & formed seedlings? Happens sometimes.
Garden Projects #14
I think it's exciting when an unknown emerges in my garden. :)
glad that it is working out patti
I have a lot liner left over here if I ever decide to move the stream further up the hill
Bill, Why not, you seem to move a mountain of dirt and rocks each season anyway. And if you want a real project you could loop it all the way around the house and have a mot.
We still have to repair the one side of the stream where DH dug up the flexible hose and then replant that edge and fix all the rocks, but it is running. Finally got some rain today so we stopped work early. Garden was very much in need of some rain. Patti
Good for you, Patti! I'm glad you got the stream running. What a project that turned out to Be. Your blooms look lovely as usual.
Jo, those apple trees will be a great addition to your place.
Karen
They are all the same variety.DD doesnt know about early ordering and Stark Bros.was out of the other variety .We hope there is a crabapple somewhere in the neighborhood.
Gorgeous Patti, I too love Blue Beards Ghost!
Love that mulberry color Robin!!
great that the endless stream is running again - do not think a moat is in the future
The stone guy came back and worked on the cairn, but we asked him to change it. He didn't come this week because of the rain, but promised to finish next week. I'll post when he's done. Still love the birdbath.
I'm finally getting a little color around here.
1. 'Rhapsody in Blue' Steps
2. Thalia
3. Japanese Quince
4. A good sized patch of Soapwort I've never seen before. Last year I found a single plant in an awkward place but left it alone. This patch appeared out of the blue.
5. Monarda and Asters invading a Siberian Iris patch. Who do you think will win this one? At least there's no room for the usual weeds, lol.
Pam: everything is looking great. The stonework is coming along nicely. It will be nice to see the finish.
That row of siberians should look fantastic in bloom.
Nice job with the sales area, Karen, & that photo of the dead tulips is very artistic....Pam, love the way the quince looks behind the bird bath.....
Karen, meant to say your place looks great! You've gotten a lot done in the last few weeks. I still have soooo much to do, good for you!
with mother's day not great to get stuff done outside. although I did finish planting the jm's, almost all the conifers, a couple transplants and only a half day of edging left. need to order mulch and then more dirt.
Whew! I worked some today......got more of the garden dug, more weeding in one of the beds....
Everyone is busy and super productive. Karen your place is looking like a real nursery. I've got to stop on one of my trips off island. Pam, love the birdbath. I wouldn't bet on any of those three thugs giving up anytime soon. Is it really chrysanthemum or that horrible weed that looks just like it when it comes up and spreads everywhere with long running roots? I am battling that each spring in one bed, but think I have gotten it more in control this spring, so far. I let Monarda run as I do love it. Love that location of the quince too.
Wha, more dirt? And more Jmaples? I can't wait to see where you had room for more. I have kept the ones of ours that are outside the deer fence still caged which looks horrible, but with the devastation the deer did last May to them, I think I would rather look at ugly cages than dead maples.
Iris starting to bloom as is one of our Peonies. Late tulips starting plus some other plants. Can't keep up.
My big push the last two days has been to empty the GH and clean up and arrange all those plants out on the porch. I need to arrange the ones on the west side tomorrow, but the east side which is where most of them go is done. Patti
more dirt - no more maples for now, just finished up planting them, took a while to find homes.
Thanks, you guys. I meant to be artistic with the tulips shot. Had meant to add there that it was sad to see them gone by. See you next year! I must add more Darwin hybrid tulips!
Pam, your place is coming along nicely. That Monarda can be a b****, can't it? Sure does look pretty when it's in bloom, though. Your quince is really pretty. I do so love quince.
Patti, I would love it if you could stop by sometime. I have been potting more stuff up, too. This weekend I will be going to a DG RU in NJ at Jan23's house. I'm really looking forward to it. Going to be a long trip for me, although Celeste is going, too, and I know that'll be a much longer trip for her.
Patti, I have the chrysanthemum looking thug at my place. What a horrid plant! So tough to get rid of.
Today I got more clean up work done. Mostly was working in the front bed trying to tame the Carex grass edging it. The runners need to be removed yearly, or it won't stay in neat clumps. I didn't get a chance to do it last year, so this year that was a lot to remove. I potted up a bunch to sell. Here's a pic of it: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=9519453&extraimg=0
Karen
Do you know the name of the red iris?
We really don't use the greenhouse any more & not for tender plants over the winter. the guys painting the house have taken it down & will disposal was being discussed, one mentioned that he would love to have it. so off it went. We had trouble with the panel on the roof over the winter. for our purposes we might as well get a cold frame. DH is going to use the treated wood foundation for other purposes. It was the lean to up against the house type of green house.
I believe it is Intermediate Bearded Iris Red Zinger. Patti
I had that chrysanthemum weed on LI- ugh!
My whole plan for that section is to let the thugs bully each other, thereby eliminating the other uglies I've been trying to eradicate. Love the Monarda, love the Aster... But if either of them think they can over-run the Sibs- Hah! Seems to be working...
Used Roundup for the first time in 2 years, mainly to edge and carve out a couple of small-ish areas out of the lawn so I can plant in 2 weeks when we get back. For the longest time I killed more than I planted, feels good to be past that stage.
Even though we're getting a freeze tonight, spring is finally, even if reluctantly, here. Yippee!!!
Pam, what a massive job, but massively lovely already. Love the overhead long shots. Tomorrow I may try to hang out of a window to do the same as it sure gives the best view of the overall plan. Patti
Thanks! Our best view is from that one bay window. It complicates design that you can see everything all at once, but that's what I fell in love with the first time I saw the place.
wow Pam,dont mess with your thug approach.
