Thanks, Allison.

Beautiful cherry blossoms. Is that the Kwanzan cherry? I have been wanting one of them. That and a Snow Fountain weeping cherry. I have a weeping cherry. Don't know the name of it. Has delicate looking, pale pink flowers.

Yes I think it's a Kwanzan cherry

I just love those weeping cherries...there is a HUGE one around the corner from me....just gorgeous!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

There's an enormous down the street from me, another one in a different town, also quite large. In another town there are two huge Snow Fountain ones. Just love them!

so pretty!

I'm glad anyone considered it worthwhile to post about this young garden. I'm trying to decide whether to plant some purple mucrunatum, or switch completely from the korean azaleas and start my first Pinxterblooms or the flame azaleas which are both supposedly native and thus able to support more life. I think maybe there's room for all of them.

At one time I thought our hill should have lots of the purple korean azaleas planted with cornus mas and corylopsis spicata, and an evergreen background, as in the Winterthur gardens. Those two yellow flowering trees are much larger this year and almost photogenic, considering they were tiny twigs two years ago.

Great Stella Rosemary.

Thomaston, CT

I like the azaleas......pinxter grows in a wild place just above the road from me.....very cheerful......

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I planted a Pinxter a few years ago .. It doesn't look so native to me.. Not thriving anyway

Thomaston, CT

That's too bad....I think they do best in acid, woodland soil.....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that's all I have.. LOL

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Jo I've had the stella for about ten years. I went back and checked my pics from last year. This is the first time it's bloomed doubles.

Acid woodland fits my description too, though I read to test below the top three inches where the pine and oak mulch is. I suppose a coal dump site would have it's effect. We're not in a natural limestone area here, just granite for natural ledge. I think my next garden trip is to see the Garden in the Woods in Framingham again and find out what grows there. Maybe a birthday trip this weekend.

Thomaston, CT

Soil is very acid here....and rocky!

My very first ever bleeding hearts...I love them!!!

Allison's favorite....LOL

Found this vinca growing in ornamental grass that I had gotten from my friend in Dec, has been just kept in a garbage bag all winter

The berm looks perfect. All it needs is a few dwarf irises. ☺ Is there a local iris society near you. they may be having a sale.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

There are some reticulata in there but they have all died back

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

saw the photo.. rip it out popped in my head.. LOL

great shots other than that beast!!!.. I ripped a ton out over the weekend already.. a ton more to go :(

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

It's so funny how differently behaved it is down here

New York, NY(Zone 7a)

Jen, I have lots of similar dicot seedlings and lots of self-sowing annuals and perennials, so I mostly have to wait for that first true leaf to come in. At least some of mine have a tiny mouse-ear leaf unfurling and are therefore (in my garden) Viola soraria priceana, the striped common violet or Confederate violet.

Thomaston, CT

Wonderful color, Jen....I love the violets, but they have taken over my gardens....and lawn!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Love the berm jen!

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

That berm has come a LONG WAY since I've seen the photos of when you began putting it in!! Looks great.
