For those interested, our youngest daughter, Jen finished the D.C. Marathon. HooRah!!!***
Her twin brother's GF, SO, partner, or whatever is currently correct, jumped in about half way to give support, found she had basically crossed a oneway bridge, and found you can't get there from here to go back, so she just finished it. I think fit is a good ID for them.
It sounds as though Holly walked a marathon to go between points to see Jen pass, a little bird did tell me that she did take the Metro for one of the 3 mile cross points. LOL We can allow that since she was up all night taking her Daddy to the ER for a tummy-bug. He's probably better rested than she at this point. When she gets home I'll feed her and tuck her in till the corned-beef and cabbage is ready.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
OH! and kiss me I'm Irish! LOL
Holly may have pics later!

Thanks Ric for the thread. Hope Holly's dad is better today.

Way to go for those marathon girls! It is quite an accomplishment.

On the way home from work yesterday, I stopped at a Walmart in Sterling. I was trying to find more of the small, plain, white pots, and the Leesburg Walmart has been out. They are the perfect size for the streps and avs, and I needed four more. The Sterling Walmart is a "super" Walmart - I've never seen anything like it. Did all my grocery shopping, picked up a few odds and ends that I had on the misc list (bottle opener and ice bucket), and found the pots that I was looking for. It is definitely worth making the trip to Sterling more often (an extra 15 miles east of Leesburg) for a store like this.

Has anyone noticed that the grocery stores are selling potted fresh herbs? They are about the same price as the fresh bunches in the produce section. Each one was only $2 - $3 dollars. They are so healthy too. I've now picked up mint, parsley, basil, and rosemary - smells so good.

Here are the pictures and story of Jen's Marathon.

I don't spend much time at all with Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc... Never quite understood the attraction. However, Mike, who is fairly new to computers in general, has been browsing around youtube, and then showing me some of the better ones. I'm now thinking youtube can be pretty cool if you can weed thru most of the crud... Thought I'd share the two he just showed me:

Crazy Test Drive (this one is hilarious):

Billy Joel with Vanderbilt student out of the audience (this one is amazing):

good videos aspen

Oh what a cutie! What a great snowman! We haven't had that much snow in about three years.- although we had 3-4 feet when we did, that winter...

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Teri -- those were fun - thanks! I hadn't seen them.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Coleup, He is so cute. What a nice picture.

Judy, ditto what Holly said. He is a cutie pie and what a great picture. Reminds me of a picture of my niece Erica from Snowmageddon.

Happy spring equinox. Its tradition to stand an egg or two on end for it at my house.

Hmmmmmmmmmm...

I tried--but they just fell over....What's the secret, Paul?
Looks like yours is on a carpet. Might help?

I have seen it done before--so I know it can work...
Maybe the yolks inside get all off-center in the fridge??

No it is on granite. Ah just patience, I also try more than one egg.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Now I will get my whole egg container out and try again.

NOPE! I even got a marble out to see if it would roll--or where I have
a level spot on my kitchen counter. It is Formica--if that matters...NO cosmic
Earth vibes in that...like Granite--which is a natural stone.

Tried with 19 eggs. They all toppled. So much for that---Bah...Humbug.......

Try sprinkling a little salt first, then once the egg is balanced on the salt, gently blowing away the visible salt....

A HA!!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I'm crying, FOWL!

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I notice UMD_Terp is quiet....

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

Let me just say this much. I did not use a single grain of salt.

SUGAR !!

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

It was just me and the egg, I swear.

I just have skillzzz.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I take Terp's comments with a grain of salt, as instructed.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I imagine you would have to find an egg whose yolk is perfectly centered
for it to stand up.

All of mine were in the fridge and cold--so who knows what gives with that.....
Also--who says my counter top is absolutely level? The marble rolled a bit.....
So did the egg.... G.

The Washington Post doesn't expect much accumulation: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/wp/2013/03/24/d-c-area-forecast-more-march-snow-but-will-it-stick/. I think we live in an area that makes it hard to predict snow accumulation, because so much turns on just a degree or two of change in temperature.

Flea season
This may save somebody some effort, I just compared prices on heartworm and flea and tick supplies for cat and dog, and Drs Foster and Smith had the best prices.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks! That stuff is so pricey. What brands are you using?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Last year we were not so sure Frontline was working here. Some places seem to be developing resistant fleas. Your own vet hopefully would tell you whether people are complaining about FRontline not working where you are. So I thought I'd just change it up and get Advantage II, I didn't write down the individual items but the pack prices were cheaper than PetcareRX or ValleyVet, which I have used before. And orders over 49$ I think are free regular shipping. It s way too easy to need over 49$ of pet supplies, eek. 6 mo heartworm, 4 mo large dog flea and 6 months cat flea= $133. I suppose I should not gripe about average $8 per month per animal. Cheaper than many other "hobbies."

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Those meds are really expesive. We just went through a fire drill getting heart worm pills (we don't give the flea pills in the winter); apparently the brand we used to use has gone out of business. I've gotten decent prices at Amazon; I noticed Costco sells them as well.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Just got up and the snow is here. Sure looks pretty we will see what I have to say about it by the end of the day. LOL

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Whee Holly! Me too. I was awake by 4 am wondering when it would start. Next time I looked, there was an inch on the deck railing. Its coming down thick right now! School's announced delayed at 5:15, to give them time to see what's happening, I imagine.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Ric has a couple of early morning Dr. Appts so we will be out in it pretty early this morning.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

It's laying on our court but I'd think the main roads have been warmed by spring sun, and shouldn't be TOO treacherous...

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Yep, pretty but my 'playful' attitude is dampened by what afternoon paper delivery may hold. Road surfaces are semi clear here, haven't heard a plow yet. Big gobs of wet snow falling from the trees so I'll be sure to wear a scarf so as to not get that snow down my neck surprise!

Note to self, buy new rear tires for car before snow season. Time to see if tire chains fit vehicle is in warm dry weather, not the day of snow. Guess I have been up De-nile on ever having to drive in bad snowy conditions again. Who am I kidding...? Need to revise the self talk that gets me thru winter driving hazards from telling myself that I won't have to dread this again for another year....Maybe also have to challenge that inner voice that alarms me with how the weather, life, my life is becoming so increasingly out of my control and unpredictable (sub theme I can no longer control or predict my life the way I used to!!) like it ever was!

Not having seen much snow at all for several years, it was a shock to see it today. How quickly we (I) forget! Out of sight out of mind. (If I had a tunnel from my car to my house, I wouldn't have to see my plants and yard...Sure, I'd keep a lot of todos off my list, but I'd sure miss a lot of ta das!

I think I need a hunker in dat, a hibernation or period of dormancy to renew and come out fresh and hungry! Is that what they used to call a vacation?

Stay safe and warm you all.

Judy

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

It was snowing at 10AM. here. Now it is 11:30 and it has stopped--the sun is in and out--
and the little bit of snow we got is starting to melt.
My street is totally clear. G.

Still snowing in central Anne Arundel
