I am amazed by the number of recipes that have been submitted.
I know i can afford to buy one, but am i going to be able to afford the S&H on it?
Just curious, moreso just being silly i guess.

How BIG is the cookbook going to be??
Dave may have to divide it into Volumes.
"eyes"
lol, thats what im thinking eyes..
Dave's Garden Book of Desserts
Dave's Garden Book of Main Dishes
Dave's Garden Book of Side Dishes
Dave's Garden Book of Vegetable Dishes
Dave's Garden Book of Breads...
The list could go on forever! A cottage industry!
Personally, I can do without the whole dessert part. I prefer recipe ideas about main dishes. Actually I've given up on buying any cookbooks at all. All the recipes, in greater variation I could ever buy, are listed on the web. Why would anyone with web access buy a cookbook? How would anyone without web access buy a DG cookbook?
I'm not trying to be a "wet blanket", I just know that I won't be buying one. To play "devil's advocate" let me ask a question. I ask a question about chicken caccetorie in the recipe forum. Am I told that the answer is in the DG cookbook?
I realize I may be sounding a bit strong here. Please forgive me, I just came from a site where we discuss controversial issues. Sometimes it helps me see all sides of an issue (and makes me rather argumentative!) I'm really just trying to look out for the benefit of DG.
shuttlebunny, I want one because it's a personal tie to my friends.
I don't think anybody will be forced to buy a cookbook and I appreciate where you’re coming from and looking out for us. Dave might want to take orders on the cookbooks before he has them printed. I can't imagine asking a question and being told to check the cookbook if anybody knew the answer I am sure somebody would help you. I don't think you will find all the recipes on the net and even if you do I don't think it will be the same I am sure lots have added there or a family members variation of the recipe (I’m sure you can find a recipe similar on the net but it’s the personal touch that makes these great). I don’t buy recipe books anymore either but this one is different. These are recipes from people here and things they like. I will be getting one and several as gifts because it will have recipes in it I want to keep as well as those from friends that I want to try out. The unique thing about this cookbook is if I have a question about the recipe I can email the person and get my answer. No not everybody will get one but the ones that do will have a collection of recipes from friends.
When I bought my first garden reference, it was 14 volumes, and I didn't have to take any I didn't like after I got them. That was way back about 1961. Of course, I kept every single volume, and have used it so many times for so many years. I had to really struggle to pay for it, but it is one of the things I treasure. Now I have many more in different formats, and each serves its own unique purpose in my library. The same is true of my cookbooks. Some I have just because they have some things I might want to make someday. I will definitely be passing the word around about what I want for my birthday next year, or Mother's Day, or whatever excuse I can find for the offspring to gift me. I don't think I have ever been represented in a cookbook before! Could they pass it up? My dil has asked before for recipes my son liked, so here's her chance. In one or 20 volumes, I must have this book.
there are certainly both sides here. I have my own cookbook that I have put together from my own and from things that I have found on the web. I printed it off and got it bound last year at kinkos for each of my children ----- so I agree with shuttlebunny - probably won't buy but would like a forum to discuss different receipes and would exchange ideas.
I still see a use for printed books as opposed to computer recipes, etc. Actually, most of the people that I know still enjoy having books in their homes. They also still go to libraries and check out books. You really can't take the computer everywhere that you go and I like to take my books outside under a shade tree to read or even on trips to search through and plan menus for parties and family dinners, etc. when I am not rushed and have some leisure time. I also get together with friends to share recipes and look at different people's cookbooks. I enjoy just reading cookbooks and keep quite a few just to scan and search for something new that I am in the mood to fix and eat. I have a shelf full of great cookbooks and plan to add any that Dave decides to publish. I will treasure them as they will be written by my dear friends on the Garden. I dearly hope that the booksellers and publishers don't ever stop printing and selling books. I think that would be an awful day.

Perhaps I can answer the question on the Chicken Caccitore I made the recipe.

I have well over 200 cookbooks and just doesn't seen to be enough yet. There's always that 1 more that I have to have
and this is really going to be one that is a must. Was telling a friend of mine;she's not a member; about the cookbook that we are doing and she already asked me to order one for her.
I ascribe to the belief that I can never have enough gardening books or cookbooks, LOL! (This belief does seem to keep me from being too thin or too rich, though...)
Seriously, I agree with Elena's comments - I have a lot of resources at my fingertips via my computer, but I am always toting along a book for car trips, and when friends and family gather, we usually end up sitting around my kitchen table browsing cookbooks or gardening books, and talking about - of course, cooking and gardening! I have several recipients in mind for the DG cookbook when it's finished - it'll make a great gift for many of my friends and relatives.
If anyone EVER really perfects a handheld PC that can give me the same portability as a book, I'll think about giving up my "hard copies"; in the meantime, I'll keep buying books. :)
I love books, cooking, gardening, fictions or anything else.
My Ex. once said I would read anything, even the pepto bismol label. When I am down flat on my back as happens now and then I can still read, but I can't use my 'puter.
But I really think this book will have some recipes in it that I have always wanted!! Plus it is something friends of mine would like as gifts. I too hope the s&h won't break me!! :)
Sue
tiG, I am with you! "a personal tie to my friends" expresses it perfectly. I love books, and this one will be special. John
Is there a projected date that this book might be ready for purchase? I'm assuming it won't be done for buying for Christmas gifts, but maybe Valentines Day or Mother's Day? I'm trying to think ahead in order to budget my money.
Joan
The book should be ready for sale sometime after the first of the year. I'm hoping anyway. I don't know who Dave is going to have publish the cookbook, but normally it takes 6-8 weeks to publish once the material is turned into the publishing company. Please, do not expect these for Christmas for this year. I knew from the start that these wouldn't be done by Christmas, but hopefully sometime in January or early February.
Will fill you in on more details as soon as I find out something, but in the mean time, please continue to submit those recipes. Thank you, thank you very much.
I'm still gonna try to find the time to submit some good recipes, but even if I don't, I agree with Pardoncanda, I plan to get one just because it will remind me of all my wonderful friends here in the Garden!!! So, I can;t wait!!!
Thanks again CoCo, for your hard work on this!!!

Ditto JSS
Folks a couple of times I have emailed coco because I thought of submitting and was unsure. (This old mind ain't what she used to be, La, La, La.) :( ;)
She was unfailingly kind to answer and help me . I think a great deal of her work is not known.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart Coco.
Sue
JSS you better get the time to add one.... lol I hope everybody will add 1 so we can see all our DG friends in the recipe book. Sorry CoCo don't mean to step on any toes but everybody that hasn't entered one please do I would love to see all my friends in the recipe book.
mystic;
no problem;got steel toed shoes on.....heehee. Actually, I have been hoping that every member would submit at least 1 recipe but then I think, that just might be bringing my hopes up too high. I memtioned before, that if every person would submit just 1 recipe;we would have over 4000 recipes for the cookbook.
I finally got Zany to submit a recipe. We now have them from A - Z. I do thank everyone so far who have submitted and for those of you who haven't yet, please do so soon as the cut-off date is November 18th. After that you will be too late.Jeanne.........hope to see your name on the list soon. There are other names in this thread as well who haven't gotten their name on the last. Come on people, lets get your name added; and get your recipe in there...........please!
You know,by buying this cookbook with all the wonderful recipes that have been submitted so far by so many great cooks,I'm sure; you won't be hearing this at your house:
Wife: " The 2 things that I cook the best are meatloaf and apple pie."
Husband: " OH? And which is this?"
I'm really hoping that there is a HUGE bread and cake section. The bread section is the first one i turn to when i get a new cookbook.
