Ok, here is a thought to save some bucks. Next spring I might organize a group buy for spring bulbs for only known folks on this site. No interlopers. I might even have the order delivered to our Vt house and have a sorting and packing PJ Party up there in early Sept. If I place the order in June there is an additional discount. Plus there are additional price breaks for larger quantities on all bulbs.

A.D.R.Bulbs is in Chester NY. It is an old company run by a nice Dutch family. I have an account with them. I would only want to deal with sane numbers per item therefore I would set a standard quantity per item. Perhaps setting minimums per item in multiples of 5's or 10's except for more expensive bulbs would be best. They have nice Hippeastrums as well as every other type of spring bulb. They have a good collection of Tulips and Narcissus though not rare ones or as many as some. I found them though a recommendation from PollyK.

Example of prices which will vary widely if shopping around, but the A.D.R. prices are always in the ballpark for being at the lowest end.

24 pickwick crocus at HGC =9.99
150 pickwick crocus at A.D.R. 28.80

50 Allium aflatunense Bulk 'Purple Sensation' at HCG = 39.99
50 Allium aflatunense Bulk 'Purple Sensation' at A.D.R. = 19.04
100 Allium aflatunense Bulk 'Purple Sensation' at Van Engelen =$39.75

Fritillaria imperialis 'Rubra Maxima': Bin display box of 15 bulbs at A.D.R. = $43.68
Fritillaria imperialis 'Rubra Maxima': 5 at Van Engelen = $25.50

Hyacinthus orientalis 'Gipsy Queen': box of 50 at A.D.R. =$27.16
Hyacinthus orientalis 'Gipsy Queen': box of 50 at Van Engelen = $35.75

I would do this via email only and not on the DG site or any other site. D-mail me your email if you might be interested in the Spring. But please note that I used the word "might" a lot. Patti

I might have to supply uniforms. Patti

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I believe last year was the intro for Silver Spring.I'm an egoist and had to have them first.I have not made out well operating on that instinct but I'm to old to change and at least I am aware.
I'm pretty sure I paid about 5 dollars per bulb ,this year they are less.
I am all alliumed out,no more room.My gardens aren't as big as they look.
There will be great spring pictures from you guys though.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

they disappear here too RD ... think the ones I had near the street fell pray to road salt ..

put me on your list Patti.. those are all nice!!

Thomaston, CT

Yes, I'm in as well....Jo, that's a great combo....I really love that Silver Spring....may have to try some!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Like Bill said J.Scheepers and Van Englend have the best prices.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I grow Allium multibulbosum (nigrum) but don't have Silver Spring yet, perhaps next year. The species is way cheaper but lacking the color or Silver Spring.

Onewish1, send me your email via dmail. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

silver spring is very nice now i need to remember where it is planted and add some passion - will have to check pictures I am pretty sure i planted it alone

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

You're right, Jo, you can never have too many lilies. I have very few. I just wish I didn't have to spray for the beetles. That's my biggest complaint about them. That and they often need staking, unlike most of my daylilies. Don't have to spray them for pests, and only a very few need staking. Of course, if I lived down south, then I'd be complaining about all the rust on the daylilies that I would have to spray for. No matter where you go there is some issue, I suppose.

Patti, I sent you a d-mail.

Thomaston, CT

Nice order, Jen....Jo, I planted what was supposed to be Blue Paradise...it's not, but I like the phlox anyway....

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I am surprised the plant wasnt what you ordered Marilyn. You know mixups never happen L O L.

Thomaston, CT

Oh, yeah! I blame that on my strange color combos!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I'd love to get that Blue Paradise phlox.

Will not look at the peonies on sale. I just don't have room, and I'd be so tempted.

Karen

I need more phlox, but not going to add them this fall. The last of our planting will be to add the new Peonies and a bunch of bulbs

DH and I have spent the last few days moving many shrubs and 6 Japanese Maples as well as cutting back anything that isn't blooming now or has turned yellow. But we have weeks of work to do before the beds are ready for the bulb planting.

I planted about 30 new iris from the PNW sale yesterday. I was hoping for a big rain storm tonight to drench all the things we have moved as some were quite big. DH finally pulled a couple of them out of the ground after digging half way to china with the truck. Not exactly gentle. Many of the things we moved had been chomped on too many times by the deer so we moved them to the part of the property that is fenced. We replaced them with things that the deer tend to ignore and that were in spots that seemed a tad crowded. So the ones that we used to replace the ones we moved were Vitex, Ilex, Beach Plums, Spirea, Peonies, Hellebores, Lavenders and Buddleja. Any Hydrangea, Rose of Sharon, Philadelphus, Syringa as well as a couple Viburnums(but not most of the Vibs) that were out in the deer park got moved inside the stockade.

A couple of the Japanese Maples that I moved seem like goners. Sad as it happened the first night that I un-caged them last May. I am going to cage the rest of the JM and hope they survive the winter and move most of them in the spring to a safer spot. A few are now big enough that the deer seem to ignore them. But every year they seem to take up a new taste. The deer have mastered the stone stairs that DH built last year. It is kind of cute to watch them use them. Patti

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

WOW Patti, stairs for the deer how absolutely decadent.
Its a shame about your JM's and you are right about deer tastes changing.

Thomaston, CT

Just bunny problems here...all my carrot tops, all my beet tops.....my neighbors call her BeBe....I'm going to call her Hassenfeffer, or 'bunny in a stewpot'! Trying to get the gardens ready for winter, but too damp today.....

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, today I got the 'Blue Paradise' phlox, among other things. Went to Kennedy's Country Gardens in Scituate, and they had a lot of their perennials 50% off. Not only that, but a friend and I went in 50/50 on over half the plants we got and split them, as they were good sized clumps. I'll be doing a lot of planting the next couple of days.

Sounds like you're busy as ever, Patti. Oh, those darn deer! I could say a lot worse.

Karen

Thomaston, CT

Smart to get the phlox on sale....

Spiffing up the natural parts of our garden has gone well. The new plantings love the rain they're getting now. I am in love with the dark, bodacious leaves on American Spice viburnum. Diane witch hazel acts like it belongs where there used to be burning bushes. I must be easily entertained, because I like the thought that I've reintroduced plants that used to grow naturally (Indian pipe), but some are tweaked a bit (Accolade flowering cherry under the dying black cherry).

This year I learned how easy caladiums truly are! Here's a view of a pot with black willow in the center. The two pots by my shed are still vibrant, too. Those rocks by the foundation all come from digging (mostly me) over the past two years. The shade garden is planted with "Ghost" caladium this year. Maybe they're protected enough to last to halloween?

nice rosemary - you have me considering moving some vibs and witch hazel to replace some burning bushes i would like to get rid of this fall.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, I know you're not new to rocks, Bill :)

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Rosemary, Nice job on your naturalization. I am continuing do a similar thing too. Today I made some holes in one of our perennial beds to fill with more shrubbery type things that I will harvest from other parts of the property. I dug out some dayliles and coreopsis and will move a couple of roses that are not particularly happy and who knows what I will dig up. Love this time of the year. Your caladiums look great too. Easy to store for next year.

Wha, good luck with your BB's. I know I am not suppose to love them but I do. Patti

Thomaston, CT

Rosemary, the caladiums will stay nice unless there is a frost.....you can always bring the pots into a heated area.....I only planted one this year, but it's given me great color in the garden.....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yeah the frost will get em... some years halloween .. some years not

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Great job, Rosemary. I like what you're doing there. I have that 'Diane' witch hazel. It sure is a nice one. I like those 'Ghost' caladiums.

I got a lot of planting done today. I planted a rose campion variety called 'Angel Blush' in my pink bed. Also planted 2 shastas called 'Banana Cream' and 'Osiris Niobe' in my white/yellow bed. Took 2 daylilies out of that bed that I'm going to pot up to sell, and moved 2 over there that I already had. One is called WHITE DRAGON, and the other is DRIPPING WITH GOLD. The latter has never produced more than one fan for me, and I've had it for several years now. I'm hoping it will do better in the new location. Also planted a new one in there that was potted up, a plant I bought last year called BALLERINA ON ICE.

I also shifted some other daylilies around and finally got around to planting some new ones that had been soaking in water. Got some cow manure spread on one of my beds as well. Will do more of the cow manure tomorrow after work, and get a few more daylilies planted and shifted around.
