Sorry, but it's going to be impossible to attend the RU in 2 weeks. Mom flies in from Florida Friday night, and I don't think she's going to be up to the car trip. Her health has been declining, and we're going to north Austin for some family visiting Sunday afternoon. My Dad's youngest cousin lives in Austin and Mom hasn't seen her in years. What Mom doesn't know is that Dottie, Dad's cousin, her sister, Winnie, just happens to be in town that weekend. I don't know the last time they saw each other, but I'd guess it's probably about 10 years.
Thanks, Joy. Sounds like you're all going to have a good time, and I'm going ti miss it.

Fall Central TX RU - Let's Plan!
Joy,
Would you mind updating the very first post at the top with the most current Hempstead RU information (location, start time, links to the swap and food threads, etc.)
Thanks!
I'm trying to forward info to Flowerette.
Linda, I updated the top with links, sorry I didnt do it sooner, just blonde I guess. I will send out the directions via email. If I don't have you on my list above, let me know so you don't miss it.
Joy
The starting time is at 11:00 a.m.?
Yes, I just put it back up there, don't know what happened or where it went.
Just sent out the directions. If you didn't get them please let me know.
Joy
What time should I get there? :)
I got mine, and they're spot on!
Too bad I can't bring my miniature donkeys lol But, they would steal everyone's snacks.
We have two, not miniature though, but they do like food.
We had six, and the prettiest one was solid white named Pearl, but lightening struck her while she stood under a tree. Broke my heart! But she had a paint baby, and we named him
Freckles. He is the smallest of them all. We have a place near Weimar, and that is where they stay. Josie Lynn, Ida Bess, Buttercup, Hollyhock & Freckles. Now that is a group of little
munchers.
Wow, I love the paints. Our two were abandoned during the drought and so I caved. Their names change with the seasons, right now they are Frank and Stein.
Joy, Frank-en-Stein! Cutest names ever for donkeys.
Bringing a friend and her 6 year old boy, who is excited to meet other children and all the farm life.
Joy, he may even tire out the BCs! Maybe. lol!
Lurking...... Love all the donkey names but especially Frank & Stein!!
DH is insisting on taking the car instead of the truck. I'm pretty sure it's because he doesn't want me to get any manure! I made a "trial run" of cornbread from a Pinterest recipe. It was awful, and it made a lot! I'm going to try a different recipe tomorrow.
Ok, here is what I have with me. Not sure if it is totally accurate but I have been at the vet's all afternoon with Evan's cow calf pair and don't have my paper with me. We have to put the calf down, so sad and frustrating. I may not have everything done by saturday so y'all have to promise not to be too picky.
Let me know if we need to add or subtract, I will thaw meat out tomorrow.

poor calf, we will survive, thaanx, cornbread recipe- tho old fashioned
pour 1/2 cup boiling water over 1/2 cup cornmeal, add 2 TBSP oleo, stir well, cover and let stand in a warm place abt an hour.
seperate bowl, 1/2 cup non rising flour, 1/2 tsp salt, 2 tsp baking pwd, (optional, 1 TBSP sugar, chopped onions)
beat 1 egg, and beat in 1/2 cup milk- add to cornmeal mixture, then stir in dry ingredients, mix well. will be quite thin, bake in hot greased muffin pan 25 min 400*F. Myself I have a small cast iron skillet, add bacon drippings, and heat skillet a few minutes - pour in batter and bake. Now as for muffin tins, I think it makes a six hole muffin tin
Just caught up on everyone's comments about our roundup. Sounds like FUN and maybe a stomachache! I'll bring the tummy medicines!!
Has anyone looked at the weather? It sounds like rain is a sure thing. Which is great for the plants but are our roundups rain or shine? I don't want to end up like Pearl, the donkey!
Janet
USUALLY stuff burns off by roundup time up here, we'll have to see in the morning what is goin on
Joy,
That's:
Linda + 2 little girls
Dashaunda + 2 little girls
Hey guys, I have been watching this weather pattern all week and the models show us not in the middle of it but it going to the west and south. They were saying rain today and it is sunny and already in the 80's.
I will have it rain or shine, we have a big barn alleyway that will work or my house. I understand folk's concerns, feel free to call or check in first thing in the morning, I am up around 5:30. Please let us know if you aren't coming so that we don't end up without something important for lunch. (it's all about eating LOL)
We don't usually get the rain that gets forecast for Houston, we are in an area that gets displaced due to the proximity of the Brazos River.
Joy
Uh, ya'll go check out the food thread for some traveling inspiration....^^_^^
K, I am estimating 35 show ups, I am 1+1 also, was wondering if you guys have any problems with vinegar on tater salad instead of mayo and mustard- my daughter tells me she wont eat any, so am asking ahead of time...
?
Since we're in Texas, make that
"One small batch with vinegar for man, one large batch with mayo/mustard for mankind..."
LOL!
Joy, I believe I do know you. Think you may have trained our dog, Harli. This is some coincidence :)
Doris and I will be there even if we have to bring my skiff. It is more than likely that it will not rain. Is the attending number now 33?
Ok, I'm comin'! And I vote for vinegar cuz I LOVE sour stuff! And I've had tater salad with vinegar (German?) and it is yummy :)
I may have one other person (hubby or a friend) but thinking not. Neither would eat much if any meat so don't worry about that.
I'll be making my yogurt today. I think I'll also make ricotta to throw on the fruit salad (but I'll have it in a separate container). Using my fresh raw milk--the BEST!!
J
Scratch Dashaunda + 2 little girls, and the red beans...Sorry.
Scheduling snafoo on her end.
Janet, I am slightly ahead of you, I just hung mine to drain, now I.am off to meet Carey for a trip to the Rose Emporium. Then back to make whoopie pies.
Vinegar is fine for me.
Sorry Dashaunda can't make it, I'll eat her share of greens
Kitt,
I'm game. I'll eat it any way you make it!
Linda
