Look above and see who I gleaned a definite yes from. We are getting closer, would love to have more folks come out.
janz, the daylily guy has a place just west of Brenham on Hwy 290 and sells to the public. He has hundreds of varieties. I stopped in the other day and found out from his mom (who lives there) that he is supposed to start selling again in Oct. Have yet to call him to see if we could invade his place a weekend early to scoop up some deals or if it will be later.
ARE (rose emporium) sells disease free roses. I have bought from them for over 20 years and have carted some to other states all with good results. If you are concerned, you should feel free to call them, they are very forthcoming and willing to address anyone's concerns.

Fall Central TX RU - Let's Plan!
Jannz, ditto what Linda said!
I haven't heard about any of the commercial nurseries in E. Texas to have been attacked by rose rosette. It is possible of course - did you contact the nursery about the rose and the virus? How long did he have the rose before it developed rosette symptoms?
I think the daylily place is open to the public - he just informed our fabulous hostess that he doesn't usually open until October. :)
oohhhh, and I just looked at the list of attendees. I wonder if Sandi wants to try to carpool again, and if she and DH can remain bronchitis free this time!
Always fun with you there Carey and I really want to meet Sandi! I have to come up with some sort of fall nummie for name tags.
Oh, and we have new LGD pups. I am raising two for another DG'er who has gotten goats and will need a guardian that does the job right. But we bought Boo for our goats since they live separate from the sheep.
Sorry guys, no bottle babies in the fall although we should start lambing next month, maybe. We did get a new calf this morning, Sprite, the big yellow cow, delivered near the house. He won't be a bottle calf but will be cute.
Joy
Here's the latest list of attendees
Rouxcrew
Gymgirl
Careyana
Kevcarr
Steadycam

Is there a food page and a swap page yet? It looks like Sheila posted last year's food and swap pages.

Thanks Gymgirl for the invite to your RU -- I'll have to take a rain-check and try to get to your next one. I'll be in Rhode Island that weekend... hopefully getting to see some Fall Color!
...
RE: Rose Emporium -- Please don't take my question as being critical of their products. The Dirt Doctor sent out a newsletter indicating it was a problem in Texas so I just thought it was quite the coincidence that my brother experienced the same virus up in Indiana.
RE: Daylilly Farm in Brenham -- I'm usually down that way in November and I love daylillies -- I'll have to see if we can stop by.
Marty...we still plan on having the North Central one up here in Burleson in October. The one in Hempstead is closer to you I am sure..but hope you can join us also.
Jannz, no harm no foul, I just wanted you to know that you could ask them and they will shoot straight with you. I was just lending credence to their quality. We haven't seen any of the virus here, hope we don't.
Sheila, does that mean that the rest of us are not invited?
Joy
LOL!! Silly person, of course not!! LOL!
Of course I'm silly, comes with being blonde. LOL
JOY! They are so CUTE! I can't wait to meet the hairy beasts!
Jannz it's no problem. It's just if there was a case of rose rosette, the nursery would definitely want to know that information so they could take action ASAP.
Here's a write-up someone else on DG linked to this spring about the spread of the disease.

Just put up a trade list. Stop by,

Joy
Sorry, wait, and I'm not even blond! The RU in Sept. is near Houston (which is way south) but there's one in Oct. which is in Burleson, which is only a little bit south of here. Do I have it straight?
Yes you do, some of us go to both. We would love to have more of the Dallas area folks come to ours.
Joy
Mark and I would be more than happy to have anyone spend the night (or nights) here if you are traveling from a distance. We have pretty much the whole upstairs to use which includes 2 bedrooms and the game room which has 2 single beds (sorry, only board games in there!!). I live on the far west side of Houston, Katy starts right down the street from us. My invite extends to adults and older children--we aren't set up for toddlers! Send me a Dmail if interested. Janet
Also, I don't have anything rooted right now but can start anything today. I have those pretty Polish Spirit Clematis, can dig some Illustris Imperial Taro, golden shrimp plant, Lavender Lady Passiflora, Musical Note Plant, and others. I haven't tried to root some of them but I can certainly bring cuttings!
I would love some of your passi, can you put what you have on our trade list?
I have my bunkhouse available, I will give first dibs to taters if she can make it, it has two twin beds and a futon.
I've updated my trade list with my opening thoughts on what I have/will have so far. I may update with epis too as the time gets closer.
I think the deer responsible for most of the chowing in front of the house was the one that had to be shot when it got impaled on our neighbor's fence a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, it taught its children the same...but at least they stay off the porch now!
i am new to central Texas (moved here last November) --i live in Georgetown. i plan to attend but am hoping to car pool with someone. It sounds like a fun time.
Linda
I want to come, missed it last time... I will have Terrell with me and possibly our friends Larry and Marian.
Trishann
Great! The more the merrier!
Linda, we have a couple girls from the Austin area who might carpool. We'd love to have you.
I am so glad you are planning on coming Trishann.
Planolinda, we miss you around here in the DFW area, how is it going at your new place?
Josephine.
Sorry to say this but we may have to bow out of this RU. My Mom is TENTATIVELY visiting us that weekend. We might have her stay over Saturday night at my Dad's cousins' for a short visit, so we might be able to attend. All still in the planning stage.
On another note, was in Florida working on Mom's house last week & visiting some of Betty's relatives there. On Saturday night, at her Aunt's & Uncle's place, my left knee blew out. Luckily, didn't fall or do anything else, but had to drive straight back. Had knee surgery to put spacer back in place on Wednesday, and came home yesterday afternoon. For those that don't know, had double-knee replacement last November. Needless to say, this is going to put fall garden on back burner.
Still hoping to make the RU, but will just have to see...
Kevin
Thank you Josephine! so nice to be missed!
I love Georgetown. i love everything about it. i am not active on Dave's anymore but i do still garden. since we have only lived here a short time i don't have a lot yet but i am enjoying starting over.
thank you Joy and gymgirl for a warm welcome to the round up!
Linda
Planolinda,
How come you're not still active? You're here now!
Kevin, Kevin, Kevin.
What do I say? If I lived closer, I'd come help plant your garden, so you could at least look out the window at stuff growing. Bummer, but, consider that you will have loads of time to research veggie varieties and soil blends, and techniques and do all sorts of learning while you're down. Turn it into a glass of lemonade, cause I'm gonna give you a quiz and pick your brain!
Having your mother visit is a blessing. That's all I'm gonna say about that...
If she's there, and you and Betty are able to make the RU, BRING YOUR MOTHER. She might welcome the opportunity to be amongst use wonderful people for the day. Plus, if she's a cook, have her make a special dish to bring so we can oooh and aaaaaaah and make her feel appreciated. Just my two cents, and I know you're giving me some change right about now, huh? LOLOLOLOL!
Hugs!
P.S. You gotta lemme know if ya'll are coming, cause I'm halfway committed to ordering a B'day cake from a baker I know who's anxious to get the additional business!
Linda
Time to think food,
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1278944/
Ok guys, since our RU is still a small one I have an idea for a fun thing we can do.
Do you know the game Clue? Let's do a garden style Clue. Everyone will get a name, "weapon", plant, and "room". We will then have to figure out who killed what plant with which tool and in what room.
What do you think?
Was also considering a scavenger hunt?
If you want to do this, I could use some suggestions for the parts. I like the old standard Professor Plum, maybe Colonel Mustard Greens? Shovel, weed killer, pruning shears, ????? Greenhouse, flower bed, vegetable garden????
Never played Clue, but I'm in!
Joy, I do like Col. Mustard Greens! lol! Let me see what else I can come up with
Miss Heliotrope (see? color AND a flower!), Mr. Dan D. Lion, Ms. Ama Ryllis, etc. Do you want to stick with colors?
For rooms atrium, sunroom, porch
'weapons' will be much harder.
I am loving it. We need about 10 of each,
Col. Mustard Greens
Professor Plum
Miss Heliotrope
Mr. Dan D. Lion
Ms. Ama Ryllis
Countess Esperanza
Duke Red Burgundy
Lady Slipper
Sir Clemson Spineless
Weapons:
Shovel
Weed Killer
Pruners
Fertilizer
Round Up
Lawn Mower
Japanese Knife
Black Tarp
Length of Jute Twine
Tiller
Places:
Atrium
Sunroom
Porch
GreenHouse
Container
Vegetable Garden
Raised Bed
Lily Pond
The Compost Bin
The Potting Shed

How about:
Lady Slipper
Clemson Spineless
Red Burgundy
A Japanese Knife
A Black Tarp
A Length of Jute Twine
The Compost Bin
The Potting Shed
Make Lily Pond a name, too! That should be hilarious!
Great ones! Now we need one more person, or if we use Lily Pond as a person we will need one more place.
Now we need the poor victims, 10 if you please. What have you killed lately? My bane seems to be echinacea. We will call it E. Coneflower.
Sergeant Verm E. Q. Lite and his wife, Pearl
Well, we obviously need "Lady Banksia!" Dr. Huey?
Places, Rock garden and beach!
Victim: Virginia Sweet (tomato)
Victim: Hill Country "Red" (okra )
Victim: Stewart Z. Best...LOL...
Victim: Mr. Tom Stripey....
When is the last date to confirm that we are headed in that direction? A friend and I might be able to make it.
Sounds like a lot of fun.
Thanks a lot,
Carol
Kevin,
I love it!
Carol, I can send you directions as late as the night before. Earlier is always better so I know how much beef to thaw. But I always try to have more than we need so don't worry. We are a very friendly bunch and would love for you and your friend to come.
Kevin, good to hear from you and I hope you and your family can come.
Joy
I'm familiar with Clue but have never played it. What a fun idea! Y'all came up with some great names.
I'm about to put some items in the trade list. I started several different seeds that have been sitting around my house and some have actually sprouted! (And yes, I am surprised...). I have some cuttings I'm trying to root. And I can lop off cuttings to bring if anyone wants to try rooting them yourself.
Time's flyin'! See ya soon :)
