Karen, I have that 'mum' looking weed, too.....very hard to eradicate!
Garden Projects # 9
OMG, Jen, on the quackgrass!!!!!!! I don't want to scare you, but you'll never get rid of it. I have been battling it for years, and my mother for years before me. All you can do is keep it under control. It runs for long distances underground, and the smallest bit of root left behind will sprout more. What a shame.
Pam, the one I had last year was at least 5 or 6 feet tall. I think 6 feet. Anyhow, I was hoping for seedlings, but have found none. I did collect most of the seed, but didn't think I got all of it.
Speaking of seedlings, I have a seedling this year from my 'Twilight Prairie Blues' baptisia.
Marilyn, tell me about it!

Corn gluten does not work on perennial weeds.

I would assume you do. Patti
I went to Kathy Puckett's (Boojum) garden tour on Sunday near Shelburne Falls. Oh My, her garden was as fabulous as usual. I was quickly brought to my senses about thinking that we could have a garden tour at our house that would be anything as notable as what she has done on their property. Her roses and Iris were breathtaking and she had some gorgeous Peonies out too. But mostly I love the way she has used their stunning setting to weave a magical garden that fits with the land and out buildings.
Inspired I weeded a bunch of areas and then I divided more hosta today to fill in some holes. We have too many holes still, but I will have to assume that everyone who comes will see that our garden is a work in progress.
Here are some shots from Kathy's garden. She also had some amazing orchids in bloom too, but my shots of those don't do them justice. Patti

NICE, how much property does she have?
Victor, I don't have it, but remember it from childhood in Massachusetts. It grew wild on the path on the way to school. We used to pop the pods when they were almost ripe, to see the silk and make it fly.
Those are lovely gardens...love the roses!
I assume they have about 3 acres, but that is just a guess. They are surrounded by woods and farms which give it the appearance of being a much larger site. When they bought the property there were some interesting roses already planted, but they have totally made it a very special place with the addition of many more as well as all the iris and everything else. She even has lady slippers. So jealous. Patti
Robindog, The dark leaved geranium is Hocus Pocus.
Patti Thanks for the link to Kathys garden.
Patti, thanks for the tour of Boojum's lovely place.
those were nice shots of Kathy's Patti
Thanks, Wish you all could have taken the stroll with me. Out to do battle. Patti
That will look great, Jo!
I sure hope so. It depends on the scaper. He will come tomorrow.Toooooo rainy to dig in the clay today.
Now that is way clever! The artist is going to be Stepping Out! Patti
I am so picky when it comes to anything creative. I just HAVE to have my way. This developed when I saw your paths laid out with irregular stepping stones. The insert idea came when I was googling Fieldstone paths. I figured why not toss in the blanks from the counter where they cut holes for the sink and stovetop.
That will look way cool, Jo! Thanks for the ID on that geranium.... Patti, I have strolled Kathy's gardens & they are awesome.....so many gorgeous sibs & roses......hard to believe they grow so well at that elevation....

ge1836, I can't wait to see your paths all laid. Fingers crossed that the weather is good and that he shows up. Your design is brilliant.
Robindog, wished we could have strolled together this year I missed the big DG gathering a couple years back which would have been a wonderful visit to her special garden.
Here is the link to the Garden Conservancy Open Garden Days. Our garden is Heathland Gardens, y'all come. Thursday, June 21st. Out to prune an ugly tree. House guest arriving in an hour. Guess what they are going to be doing for the next couple of days? Beach, no, weeding, yes. Patti

Lovely photos of the tour. Jo I hope the plans work out.
Its today. I am ready for the guys. I cant wait to see the stone thay bring.Scapper said "Colonial Stone grey and lilac" It cranks up my brain imagening what the finished paths will look like. Sometimes thare is quite a distance from what I dream and what actually happens.
Its like crismis.
nice.. can't wait to see it
Good luck JO, I think it's going to turn out great!
Patti, your photo for the tour was lovely....sounds like a great tour.....forgot the Morash garden was on Nantucket.....I still use my Victory Garden cookbook.....Jo, you must be excited....hope I make it to Pittsford this summer.....niece is redoing kitchen & baths!
Robindog, I love that cookbook, not just because of the connection to Nantucket, but because of the way it is laid out. When I have a veggie that I want to prepare then I go to that section of the book and before even reading a recipe, I can see all the basic ways to cook it. Even after all the years of owning it, I still find things that I never knew that I could do with a particular veggie. Plus the recipes are all very good and though not a totally a vegetarian cookbook, it can serve nicely as one.
I am giving a copy of it to a bride at a luncheon in New Orleans in two weeks along with the recipe for my favorite slow roasted cherry tomatoes along with a silpat. We are all suppose to bring a kitchen gift with a recipe. She is a vegetarian and he spent all his summers on Nantucket growing up and last August I served them both some of those little roasted tomatoes with goat cheese and they loved them, so I figure it will be a good gift. I froze trays of them last fall for this winter and they are about all gone, so I hope we get a good crop of them again. Sun Golds are my favorite but we planted a bunch of different types for this year.
Soft rain happening now, so inside and kind of glad for a morning not out weeding. Back is happy too.
IrisMa, wish you could tell me a way to slow down the iris from blooming this early. I had hoped they would be the star of the show.
Jo Ann, Hope we see that path soon. Patti
Here is what we started with:
This is the finished path.It will take a year to mature and expose some of the smaller riverstone, but I couldnt wait to show it off.
