Gift membership

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

I want to give some gift memberships,
but there is only a selection for members-
I wanted to gift to non-members

How to do it ?

Unless things have changed, you can only do it for someone who's a member. If they're not on here already, see if you can talk them into signing up as a member for free. Then find out their username and you can buy them a subscription then.

So much for surprises !

Well, if you really want to surprise them, you can sign them up for the free membership and then buy them the subscription--but then you'd be picking out their username, etc so make sure you pick something they'd want!

If they didn't like the username you picked, I think that Dave's Garden will let the registered user change their username. At least, they did for me. However, the change was "global", in that it applied to all of my previous messages, which was a bit confusing, because responders referred to me by my old username in their messages, so there was a mismatch between my new username and the old name that responders called me by.

I would have preferred that the change had not affected my old messages, and if I had known that it would, I would have let the old subscription expire and enter a new subscription under my present username. But life isn't perfect, and stuff happens.

We do make one-time username changes and will happily do so if you want to buy a gift for someone and then advise them to request a username change to a name of their choosing.

It's akin to giving someone a gift subscription to anything else online or via mail - the company has to be able to transmit the gift to them. We don't have gift cards that can be redeemed due to the expense involved in creating and tracking them.

Zen_Man, we actually prefer to change a ember's name on their account rather than have them create an alias, for a variety of reasons. If it's any consolation, there are still (very) old threads around here that refer to me as "Go_Vols", "Vols" and "GV" because my original username was "Go_Vols" (and a few people used shorthand to refer to me in posts :-)

Hi Terry,

"If it's any consolation, there are still (very) old threads around here that refer to me as "Go_Vols", "Vols" and "GV" ..."

Oddly, that is some consolation. Although, I am a bit surprised that a DG Admin wouldn't qualify for some special privileges.

I would have been allowed to start over if I wanted, but I figured my old stuff should still be attributed to me (for better or worse.)

And I've always been a firm believer in rules applying to the rule-makers, too :-)

"And I've always been a firm believer in rules applying to the rule-makers..."

That's a very good principle. I wish that all the "rule makers" adhered to it. But I know that we aren't supposed to discuss politics, so I won't.

Zen_Man, you read my mind :-) You know the saying, What's good for the goose is good for the gander." I wish more folks were familiar with that philosophy.
