I would like Sunray, and Cypress Gardens. Those are the only two that I know of. I am new to Brugs too. Catlady fixed me up today with cuttings....oh Im in Brug heaven y'all.....LOL. I dont know what most others look like besides what Ive seen in a catalogue. Somebody off of this list is sending me a list that is so good I feel like it is Christmas in November. Once I get these cuttings going Im hopefully gonna be able to have quite a variety in my list. I love the idea of sharing stuff. Horticulture is not a cheap addiction......ROTFL. We need to get by with a little help from our friends, as the old Beatles song goes.....

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

amen Kelly!!! If it weren't for my friends here, I'd be poorly set, I can tell you that! I really really hope that next year the mail situation is okay, cause I'd like to be the angel that Eric, Gloria, Arlene, Calalily, Brugie and a few others have been to me. I owe all of next years flowers to Dave's Gardeners.
Thanks guys!!!!

tiG...is there a place that specializes in Brugs? I only have my Logees book and thats how I know I like the Sunray, and Cypress Gardens. I got White, Double Wh, and Frosty Pink, plus Charles Grimaldi from Catlady. (among other things....hehehe) She has the most beautiful cats....one especially....he is so handsome. Pam, if you decide you cant keep him anymore....he will have a home here.....:-)
Catlady has such organization....wish I did. Oh well....oh, back to Brugs....I would like to see pics of each variety. But, I cant see them from the net. (card needs to be redone)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

try www.lebonjardinier.com for pictures, but a friend wrote today that they are having troubles and can't start shipping even back orders until March. There's overseas, http://www.hodnik.com and http://www.tropicaflore.com/ (doesn't ship to US) and if you do a web search, you'll find more. Most overseas don't ship to us. Hodniks does, but you have to have a certificate ($25), so it can be pricey and I've heard that a few people are getting them in bad condition. try ebay for some of the more common, but very pretty ones. and then there's always us here at Dave's in the spring:)
the one thing I discovered is that I don't have to have every single named one. I am trying to go now only for variety, different colors, doubles and fragrant. At first I thought I had to have every single one, and some of them you can't tell apart unless you're an expert. If you're just into flowers, get each color, and then start reading and see what others are going after.
good luck, hope you don't get the addiction as bad as I have it.

Longview, TX

I just wanted to see the different varieties so I will know which ones I want. If I could order a catalogue that had them listed....that would narrow down my list, or make it larger......ROTFL. Yes, I have it bad....the brug illness. Catlady is making it worse too......she and I have fun talking about this stuff...but it makes me want to go an acquire MORE brugs...LOL. I cant wait till SPRING to get all this out, seeds popping out everywhere. Next year should be a bountiful harvest from all the stuff I traded from Daves, and another place. Also I can plant seed for the youth gardens.....oh my. I just cannot wait. I hope to borrow a digital camera to show the progress....if not I will have to use a reg camera.

Gilmer, TX

Organized, Kelly? You must have really gotten yourself in a mess since I was there last if you think I'm organized. Bruce did enjoy all the attention today, to bad Winnie wouldn't come out to play.
I have to thank DG for getting me together with Kelly, we would never have met otherwise and I would have missed out on a great friend. We are just two plant nuts together. Wish more of you were close by. Pam

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

tiG - I wonder what type of troubles Le bon jardinier is having? Will they ship my seeds? I was planning to order from them in the spring. I hope they're Ok by then.

Longview, TX

Pam is right. Thanks to Dave's!! Otherwise Pam and I would probably of never met. It is so cool to have friends you can swap with, and talk with. I wish you all could find a friend close-by like Pam and I have. Once Dave's keeps growing...you will!
Winnie is just a little shy. She is so beautiful. She did let my son, and I hold her for a moment. What a pleasure. But y'all wouldn't believe Bruce...he feels like velvet, and I fell in love with him. He is the prettiest cat Ive ever seen in my life. Pam must post a pic of those two cats.
Pam's starting cuttings, and has a huge amount of seeds. Her plants look great....I cant wait till she moves into her new place...and she can put all those pots in the ground. Then Im going to load her down with stuff to plant...hehehe. Im going to have her busy. But we cant be so busy as not to enjoy the beauty of what we plant. That defeats the purpose.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

The problem with LeBon was a virus they had with cuttings. It shouldn't effect seeds, not sure though. If it does, I would expect you'd get an email. For those interested, the buy one get one free seed sale is still on. Did get an email about that, but I didn't get any. Have plenty on my plate now.

Hampstead, NC(Zone 8a)

Has anyone tried Native Habitat Ethnobotanicals out of Verno Beach, Fla.? www.Native Habitat.com. Their pictures are just beautiful and I use it as a guide when I want to see what a certain Brug or Datura looks like.

oh, duh, how could I forget ValleyGrow.com??? Earl is great and I've bought very nice plants from him.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I think (hope I'm not wrong) that Eric has recommended NativeHabitat.com, got my head screwed on wrong lately, and didn't even think of them and valleygrow.

Owen,
What kind of detailed info are you looking for? Growing Daturas or finding seeds?

(Zone 6a)

was looking mostly for size of plant, and size of bloom for datura tatula, Inoxia and double purple varieties:)

I found the pictures of them but no detailed data.

Owen,
wavin @ ya from way down the bottom of the list here...If ya would like information on datura I can supply lots of it. Last month I did a gardening article on Daturas and I have my research saved on my 'puter. What sort of information would you like? A copy of my article? A list of the varieties (lots of them out there)? Detailed descriptions of plants? Lemme know and I can give ya the hook up with whatever ya like. So far I've found descriptions for 43 different Daturas. I have seeds for 23 varieties, but only trades available for 10 varieties of datura seeds at this time.

Owen, thanks for creating this list. Its a great idea!! As a result of this list I now have cuttings of 'no name' white brug, 'no name'peach', 'no name' yellow, 'Frosty Pink" and would I ever love to have MORE varieties. I'm so excited! Now if you have small seedlings or cuttings of other brugs I would be more than happy to trade datura seeds with you. Email me for my list of datura seeds available for trades. Thanks.

You have email joydie1. Hey, how did that upside down Sweet 100 turn out?

Owen

FSH, TX

NativeHabitat has excellent rooted Brugmansai and their seed selection isn't all that bad either. Lee, the owner, also hybridizes some beautiful doubles in Color.

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Someday I would love to have any of these beautiful plants. Have only seen them once locally for sale and at a time when I had no money to spare :<( Since have only seen them in pictures. Lani

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Just checked out the Native Habitat site and have put the X flava on my must have wish list. It will be a long wait for this one as it is on their wish list also.

Hamilton, Canada

Owen,
what upside down sweetheart thang...lol..I have to go back and look @ that email again...will post you an email with all the info I have on datura varieties and when I have more time I will post pics..maybe by the weekend the pics will be up...

(Zone 6a)

joydie1.....was talking about the sweet 100 tomato plant you planted in the drain hole of a hanging basket.....or was that someone else?

Owen

Hamilton, Canada

Owen that was me...it turned out nice...I'm going to try some other small growing varieties in my kitchen garden greenhouse over the winter. I'm now harvesting peas and beans...yummy. I just have to enter the kitchen garden greenhouse from my kitchen door so I can nip and cut what I need for meals. My second crop of tomatillo are almost ready too. Best idea I ever had is the kitchen garden greenhouse!!

Franktown, CO(Zone 5a)

The 2 main brugs I'm looking for are the sanguinea red and sanguinea yellow. I do have citronella and some not so unusual ones to trade.

Deanne,
SorryI can't help you...it's to hot here to grow those.

Hamilton, Canada

Deanne,
I have sanguinea yellow for trade..LMK if interested.

Joydie: Do you have the yellow sanguinea that is all yellow, no orange or red? If so email me please.

Joydiel - I'm new to this site - have been lurking for awhile and thought I best take the plunge. I will have knightii cuttings in spring again - none left now. Can send to your Canadian address - I'm in Ontario too - Woodstock, Ontario. Have other seeds - would you be interested in trading some of your datura seeds if still available. I really would be interested in your datura article and any related sites with pics that you can guide me to. I'll e-mail you privately as well. /Annie

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Annie, please save me a knightii cutting, I'll have lots to trade. it's one of the few left on my 'dying to have' list.

Woodstock, ON(Zone 6B)

Okay Tig but I'll have to leave it to you to put it in your diary and remind me. Too many senior moments. It is extremely hard to root though. Usually only about half of mine make it - the other half rot. I don't have any fancy greenhouse set up though - maybe that would help.
/Regards/Annie

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

thanks, i'll do that:)

FSH, TX

Ahh, a dear Brug grower just sent me some info-Native Habitat's Lee has already introduced his Mercury...the Knightii x white aurea I have been raving about. Apparently his newest catalogue has some trully extra-ordinary hybrids. I have seen some of his hybrids a few years back to include his Mercury-all I can say is where is the line and why didn't someone tell me about this sooner. Lee is has some exceptional hybrids in my oppinion...just can't wait until he posts them on his website or perhaps he has. Take a breather and see what happens?!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

nothing like that on his website. I wrote and asked for info on how to obtain a catalog.

FSH, TX

Tig,
Many nurseries have different things on their website versus their catalogue and even more available to those who inquire about specifics. Mercury is on my wish list and has been for a very long time. I was just about to make that same cross myself as I was tired of waiting for mercury and wanted to hope that I could get lucky and get it with just a few hundred seedlings. Now that I have a Knightii on the way though and mercury is already released I might as well cross Knightii to a yellow aurea instead and hope to get one with a bit of yellow in it. Even if I don't get something as nice as mercury with the yellow aurea cross I can always cross the two.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

(betcha get better!!)

FSH, TX

Tig you are too kind. Would love to cross Lee's mercury to a yellow or pink aurea of any name though. Rest assured I would cross mercury to each and every aurea I have in color. Would love to cross mercury to a double pink as well. Just think of the possibilities. Ahh,...dream lists.
