Might be Primula
Whats New April 2012
Oh yeah, thats Primrose!
Pixie yours has popped up just as you said. Thats how I know what it looks like. I also found 1 teeeny greeny and transplanted it.
They spread ^_^
Jen, I don't think it's primula. The leaves of primula are very puckered looking.
Karen
Well I guess we'll see what happens if and when it blooms
Watch it be a weed.
Karen
grrrrr
Oh I won't yank it till I def know what it is....wierd how it's all over that one corner....I def didn't put it there
Ok, what's the story when tulips just have foliage and no flower? Do I dig and replant deeper?
Dig & see what's going on, but they may just be very late tulips....
I have only 3 of the same variety that are up. They are in the same vicinity, leaves aren't chewed, so I didn't think anything ate the stem and flower unless they were really careful
I have tulips that do that and they have been here since we moved in. I think its a dwindling bulb.Just a thought.
the ones I planted were not the good perennial ones.. I only get greens on them.. and every once in a while a bloom or two
:( They haven't been there that long(planted in 2010)
love the purple prince!!
Jen, I was going to ask you on Thursday about that, cuz I have very few tulips that bloomed. Mine aren't that old either.

Maybe the winter was too warm for them this year?
None of my tulips have done well this year, even darwins, that have been doing well for 10 years
Same problem here....the tulips I planted in the fall are up & budded, but all the rest are gone or just leaves.....nice blooms, Jen!
I have a MDB iris blooming.
Well, Primula japonica does seed in readily. Did you have one in that area, Jen? Possibly seed from another area? Maybe the seedling foliage looks different from the mature, which I think look different from the foliage in you pic.
In regards to tulips, most are not reliably perennial. They'll bloom great the first year, then in subsequent years will only produce foliage with barely a bloom. There are certain varieties that will return reliably for several years, like about 7-8 years. I'm not sure what all of them are, but I know the Darwin hybrids do. I have one called 'Appledorn' that has come back year after year, but this year it looks like it's done, as I see only foliage. It's a real pretty one, too. Most people who are in the know, as far as the growth habits of tulips is concerned, will treat them as annuals, knowing they will have to start fresh each year, which is fine if you can afford it.
Jen, funny you should mention the Tree of Heaven (Tree of Hell, I call it). I was just reading some stuff about it tonight, about how it sends up suckers everywhere. I used to have those trees at the place I lived at in Fallon, NV (out in the desert, in the middle of nowhere). I hated them! What a pain! Glad I don't have any here.
Karen
HEY my sister used to live in Fallon!!!! what a coinikidink, LOL
Yeah I was being nice, I call it the same thing!
The primula I have is about 20' or so away from this spot
LOL! I lived in Fallon for 10 years, and Reno for 7 years before that. Loved both places. Was easier to garden in Fallon, as they soil was all soft sand, though it dried out really quickly, so always needed watering. Reno's soil was clay based, hard as rock when dry and like mud when saturated. Anyhow, I grew quite a few things there. Composting was tough. You had to water it a lot. So dry there, but I love the dry air.
Karen
Oh, those are cute!
Great shots, Jen!
Karen
Pretty!!
thanks
I have Minnow for the first time. Its really sweet.
I'm beginning to love the mini daffs.....
