Dave and Trish do so much for us through this website, here's something we can do to help them. You know the saying, building a better mousetrap doesn’t mean the world will beat a path to your door - that's true of websites, too. But with a little help from us, DG can attract even more members, and eventually more subscribers. It also gives us a chance to brag on this website many of us call home.
Step 1. Look down through this list of 50 websites; pick out a few that interest you.
Step 2. Click on the link, and look for a place to submit a link (or URL). If there is a free-form text area, write a short polite note telling the webmaster why you think he/she should add a link to Dave’s Garden:
-If you like their website and/or use it, say so. A sincere compliment brightens anyone’s day; webmasters are no exception.
- Briefly describe the benefits of DG, especially the trading tools, personal journal, plants database and trading primer which are free and valuable to gardeners everywhere.
-Accurately enter the DG website: www.davesgarden.com (use cut and paste if necessary)
Step 3. E-mail your DG friends with the websites you selected, and ask them to follow up with their own request. It can take 10+ requests for a webmaster to take action.
****Let’s keep it simple! When someone sends you an e-mail with links, don’t re-send it to anyone else.
Last step: Send me the websites you contacted (your own selections AND any that someone else sent you.) I’ll track the websites we’ve contaced and how many requests have been sent. I’ll post updates when the DG link is added to another site.
A special note to Master Gardeners: your local MG website probably has a section with links of interest and you may be able to influence that webmaster on your own. There is also a large list of resources included on the international MG site, which you may wish to target as a group: http://dmoz.org/Home/Gardens/
A Final Note: The sites I've listed are “general gardening” sites – they don’t market their own brand of gardening supplies or merchandise (like Burpee, Park Seed, et al) If you have another site you want to target, make sure it is a general gardening-type website - if you need help, feel free to contact me.

Note: I'll try to keep up with editing this posting and remove the sites as they add us as a link, so that you won't wonder if you're contacting a site that's already a "done deal." :)
Look for other threads to pop up when links are added, and check out the referring sites - I'm sure the webmasters of those sites will appreciate our interest in their site as well.

I get the Birds N Blooms magazine and anyone that has an e-mail listed, I e-mail those people and tell them all about Dave's Garden. One lady even e-mailed me back and ended up sending me some Forget-Me-Nots Seeds. I don't even know if she joined or not. Will have to get back in touch with her again I guess. I spread the word as much as possible.
CoCo, I know a lot of us do try to "advertise" DG whenever we can, which is great :)
By focusing our collective efforts on a few specific websites, we can make sure that more sites add links to DG, which will provide more traffic to this website, and ultimately more subscribers.
Is there a section of links on Birds and Blooms? I looked, but didn't see one - if you are aware of one, please feel free to add them to the list of those you'd like to target.
I've printed your message and will contact all on your list and let you know when I've done them all........vic
I've already heard from some of you who have contacted several of these sites - thank you for your help. I've even heard back from a couple webmasters so far, which proves this type of "grass roots" effort can be very effective. But there's still plenty to be done, and lots of you who I haven't heard from!
Please let me know if you've contacted any of these sites.
And please give me some feedback: would it be easier if I selected 4 or 5 sites each week, and have everybody e-mail those specific sites? (I put together a large list since I figured it would have "something for everybody", but if it looks too overwhelming, speak up!!!)
I really some input here - this is an important means of helping DG become self-sustaining. I don't know exactly how many subscribers there are so far, but it's nowhere near the number of members. So let's "get out the vote!"
Talk about guick service check this out I just got the email back and she already added Dave's to her site. She said others had written too. http://www.angelfire.com/pa2/TerriPA/ccgardenlinks.html
Wow, that is very quick response! I'm sure Dave will want to thank the webmaster. That's one of the main reasons why I'm asking everyone to send me the links they've contacted, so that we can watch for them to add the link and be sure to thank the webmasters.
mystic, I also e-mailed that site and recieved a response on the 23rd from her. Believe it or not she is a member of DG. (terri in pa) She said she hasn't stopped in for a while but will be rejoining us soon! Small world isn't it!!!! sue
I contacted weekend gardener, internet gardening, gardenlaunchpad, and wiseacregarden.com today.
I will let you guys know when I recieve more responses! sue
