Go Gardening Search not working

Beautiful, BC(Zone 8b)

I knew I had added the Vallarta Botanical Garden a while ago. Searches using the Go Gardening search came up with no listings for Mexico or "Vallarta". I knew I had added it so looked through my email and found the entry: http://davesgarden.com/products/go/view/21325/

What's up with this?

Mike I just searched for Vallarta and it popped right up. Can you try again?

Isn't that weird. I spent quite a bit of time looking for the entry and it never came up, even when I had the file infront of me. Not sure why that happened. It came up fine now. It was also affecting Canadian province searches but seems ok now.

Glad it's working okay for you now!

Is there a secret or tips for using "Go Gardening". I've had the same problem on and off for years. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Unfortunately this morning is one of the days it won't work and I need to find garden centers in the Dover, NH area!

How are you trying to search? I googled to get the zip code for Dover NH and put that in the zip code field and got a whole bunch of hits.

Your best bet is usually to keep your search term as short as possible. A single unique word (If you're looking for Rick's Garden Center, your best bet is to search for "Rick" or "Rick's" - not "garden" or "garden center.")

If possible, I try to search for words (or partial words and disregard any single quote marks or apostrophes. Using the same example, the nursery may have been entered as "Ricks" instead of "Rick's" and our system is a stickler for precise matches when it searches.

And occasionally someone will use a diacritical mark like (`) instead of an apostrophe/single quote mark (') and a computer has no way of knowing it should "read" them as interchangeable.

And yes, using the ZIP code search can also help you find what you're looking for if a text search doesn't pan out.

ecrane, maybe that's the key - I rarely have the zip code and just type in the city name. I usually start with 25 mile proximity and move up to 100 mile and it still didn't show anything. Guess I'll have to remember to look up the zip code the next time - just wondering why "City or Zip Code" is indicated if city doesn't work? FYI, I rarely search with "unique" words because I'm usually searching an area I'm unfamiliar with, I just want to know everything within easy driving distance.
