3 5/8" our total just southeast of Austin... Nice sunny afternoon...
RAIN!!!
We picked up another 1/4" either last night, overnight, or this morning. It's gently raining out now. Don't think I'll get my cucumbers planted today.
I woke up over night and thought I heard it rain. But I didn't think rain was even in the forecast, so thought I must just be hearing things. Was pleasantly surprised to see 1/4" in the rain gauge when I got up. I didn't even know there was rain in the forecast for today. Yahoo! I swear that my grass and flowerbeds are growing right before my eyes. Love it!

Updated drought monitor shows relief in many areas and some our out of drought all together.
Watering restrictions on some aquifers are to lifted.
Lets wish some for those that still need it.

Many of our lakes are back up to normal levels!! Hooray! Of course, others are still well below normal levels.
it is such a blessing and relief to drive and see all the green grass, lush foliage, ponds and lakes full. every day when I go out, my yard seems to have sprouted something new. amen juju......hoping and praying that areas that have not received rain will do so soon. thankful that this year, I may not have to sit by the scanner monitering all the fires in case we need to grab what we can and get out. we had some horrible fires within just a few miles of our house...couldn't even go out with smoke being thick in the air. My heart is thankful.
Monday's storm hit us hard with over 5 inches in 6 hours. Some of my corn was washed away. Still waiting to see if bean seeds are going to rot and transplants are still waiting on me. One of our large oaks was hit by lighting, the second tree to be hit in the last two years...getting too close for comfort!
This last storm put about 1.5" in the cracked rain gauge.
The warm winter and recent rains brought blooms to the two pots of irises I got from jujubetexas at the San Marcos plant swap a couple years ago. One is white and one is purple. I got lucky because at the time they were not in bloom and were not identified other than in the lot were both colors. The bloom stalks are about a foot tall and remind me of the old homestead types I used to see around an old farm in Kyle I passed everyday going to and from Austin to work.
I am so glad to have these. They have been multiplying in the original gal plastic pots on the south side of a huge cedar tree in the garden. The tree is trimmed up to about 15' so the irises get full sun most of the day. Now I can find a more permanent location.
yay! raining out there this morning...we have gotten about 1/10th. I think the shower is almost over but these little showers are sure nice for the yard and garden.
I got 1/4". The garden is loving it.
yea...it has been showering off and on all morning. love it!
1.25 inches last night.
I'm so jealous!
1 7/8" about 3 miles east of 35 out toward Niederwald by FM 2001... Really rained last afternoon and evening...
I told myself I was going to get a Rain Gauge before the next rain. But we got hit with 2 large storms. Cant remember which day. But they never said anything about rain until it was raining. All the livestock feed buckets are full. Next time...
we are 12 days since last rain and it is just now getting dry enough to till ..The weather is just great but I am still trying to hold back as much as I can stand it ,as sure as I get everything planted and up then Jack Frost will come acallin..last year the last frost was May 4
More apt to be 100* April Fools Day and not look back like it was in the late 70's there...
We have tornados all around the DFW north central TX area. I pray my friends and family are without harm through all of these dangerous storms today.
We made it through with a little hail, hard rain for a short time but no damaging winds. Hope everyone else is okay.
Glenna
Johnson County-Cleburne
Lots of rain and wind here. No hail.
popped over here to check on my DG friends. hope everyone is ok and can check in soon
Guess I need to call Josephine since she hasn't checked in. Let you know if I find out anything.
Lots of wind and very, very heavy rains here. No hail, though. Praying all those in East Texas are safe!!
Josephine only had rain at her home in Arlington. My Nephew who lives close to her filmed the funnel near there out his back door. It is on facebook now.
Christi (LouC) had a close call in DeSota the tornado touched down just up the road from them. Dale's butterfly farm is just south of her so hopefully missed him as well.
Haven't heard from Catzgalore in Burleson to see if they had damage yet.
thunder really rumbling out there right now...I think possible golf ball size hail, wind and rain is our forecast.
We missed out on rain but I think it might be for the better considering the nature of these storms.
whew. lots of lightning, thunder, wind...over 2 inches of rain...thought I heard a little hail one time but not sure. soon as daylight arrives will have to get out and see if everything is ok and nothing blowed over, etc.
I just read this entire thread and really enjoyed all the accounts of receiving rain. Unfortunately, I can not share in any accounts of rainfall in my area. According to the drought chart, I am on a border area of extreme and exceptional. Even when rain does reach my area I actually live in a particular spot where I can watch the clouds come in from the west split west of me and move south and north of me... no rain! It has to be an extremely large and strong system not to break up before reaching me.... very frustrating. Our watering restricitons are becoming outrageous to the point of wondering when they are going to start coming into individual homes and telling us when we can take a bath. If they would have just enforced some of the initial restrictions and actually educated people a bit better we would all be better off. I wish someone with a little common sense would prevail occasionally instead of just being reactionary in public affairs.
OK, off the soapbox now.... glad so many have received rain, I am very happy for you and a bit jealous! LOL
So ver sorry that you have not received any rain. My heart and my prayers go out to you.
Hang in there, Tammie, eventually the rain will come. And I agree with you about water restrictions. It's as though nobody in local government can or will plan ahead for such things, but only over-react after the crisis is upon us. But perhaps this latest drought is teaching everyone a very valuable lesson. One can hope!

We picked up 2" of rain this afternoon!! It was heavy rain with lots of thunder and lightning. I decided to nap during the storm. :)
Well, we have had storms all around the past three nights and the area towns have gotten rain. The streets have gotten damp a couple of times here and it actually rained enough to put about 10 gallons of water into my rain barrel tonight..... I'll take every bit I can get. I know they got quite a bit of rain west of town! .... sure wish it would make it here... I am still happy to get every drop it sends my way.
that is great Tammie! Praying for more for you!
