RAIN!!!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

I wish they wouldn't irradiate the elephant garlic at wallysworld, but I got out and set the tomatoes, both type heirloom, a German Queen? and a Homestead? I think, tags are in the garden , threw some radishes in,couple of peppers-banana and a salsa- and a few herbs-spicy oregano, and bee balm and lemon thyme- and a pickle plant(hybrid burpless) the drizzle just keeps going... I have to leave and go to work tomorro, so we'll see what survives when I get home in 2 months, chuckl,

Talihina, OK

lizzieshome52 does the ones you are going to get have the older type of wide leaf 2or 3x wider than the more modern types the ones I am after has the wider leaves and according to the lady gifting it is what is known locally as wild garlic She is a nice lady 1/2 choctaw with a masters in English lit she also teaches a class at the library in creative writing and acts as a literary agent for Native American authors

Hey! It good to hear south central is getting some rain..about time!

We're at 3 1/2", the ponds and creek have overflowed, flooding the fields. Normal for a rainy season...I like normal, when it comes to rain and weather.

Will garlic bulb up when planted in the spring? Or do you wait till next year to harvest?

East Texas, TX

grits....I am not sure...I haven't looked at it closely...she told me about it a few months ago and got busy and forgot about it. I know that the plants that these originated from were planted probably 75-100 years ago....

I am not familiar with garlic plants, so really do not know one from another. I will have to do some reading up and see and get back with you.

It's now trying to clear off, but we have about 2.75" of rain in the rain gauge now. Woohoo! My dad lives in San Antonio and he said it's been raining since Friday. They desperately need it! Sounds like the lakes and reservoirs will be getting some much needed filling!

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

It's been raining here since Thursday nite, it came in with a bang. It is now starting to clear out here also.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Clearing up here too, with ended up just short of 1.5 inches, i am happy.

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

My rain gauge read 4" !!
Everything is so green !!

East Texas, TX

we got right at 4 inches also. can't wait to get out tomorrow and pick up limbs, etc and check everything.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

We've had 4.5 since Saturday here in Houston.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

It finally cleared off mid-afternoon. I spent several hours in the garden!! Great time to weed. LOL

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Me, too, Stephanie. Those weeds just came up like buttered!

East Texas, TX

I was lazy this afternoon...had sinus problems today so decided to veg out...I will be like Scarlet and think of those weeds tomorrow

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I can't even get in my garden unless I want mud up to my ankles. I know what's in that mud so I don't want it to my ankles yuck!

BUda, TX(Zone 8b)

Just south of Austin we got almost 3 1/4 inches since Friday morning. A lot of it came Friday night & Saturday...

Momma decided the she and our grand daughter would get out and clean up some of the raised beds and do some planting. Just hope it's not too wet but at least we wont have to water for a while...

No clue where we topped off the rain gauges, 4.5" easy guess, supposed to be 80* today, G'kids are on spring break, and I have to get the truck pulled out of the mud where it sank to the axles sittin, grrr, moles-at least the trees haen't fallen too bad-yet...

yay. sounds like everyone got some good rain. Gives one hope for the coming season...something I dare say, we all desperately needed.

Kitt...having problems with moles? Hubby catches them here constantly. He got some nifty traps at tractor supply that work like a dream.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Our moles would drive him nuts, but this is also just typical southern soil- hard as concrete when dry and quicksand when wet, saw also after the rain died where my sinkhole was- the fire ants were trying to dry out- they are as bad as termites about living in the trees until elms just die and fall, truck walked out of the sand without ruts thanx to the towtruck.

East Texas, TX

the big red cut ants are carting away everything on our hill. and now, my nephew said that army ants have hit (he lives with my sis up the hill from us). we may not have anything green left. I need some time to sit down and talk to him while he is in on spring break. he is getting a degree in agriculture from A&M and just speaking briefly with him the other day they have been learning about the rose disease that drthor was telling us about among many other things.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

You can sprinkle dry molasses around to take care of the ants. Not only does it kill the ants, it will fertilize your beds/yard.

East Texas, TX

thank you!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Where to find dry molasses! My shopping skills are atrocious these years

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Try a feed store or organic nursery.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I forgot about having a large bag of dry molasses.....need to get it going around the ant mounds quick. They are all around my pond because of the water and I can't treat with anything because of fish and the dogs, birds, frogs, dragonflies.....on and on.

I have it in a rubbermaid tub because of flooding issues....out of site out of mind...thanks for the memory jog.

Got mine at Tractor Supply btw.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

We're on tap to get more rain Monday and into Tuesday. The system is really supposed to hit East Texas pretty hard. Start building your boats!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanx!

East Texas, TX

our news guy said we could get up to 6 inches!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Got your ark ready?

East Texas, TX

Trying, lol. And of course...I just put out dozens of native bee balm plants...found them in afield behind my sister's house. I hope that they do not get washed away. Some are small

BUda, TX(Zone 8b)

Austin's supposed to get 4 to 6 inches, possible scattered 8 inches possible. Just between Monday night & Tuesday, just hope garden stays where it is, this looks like it's gonna be a toad strangler....

East Texas, TX

the last rain was slow...4 inches....this one could wash my yard down the hill. yep. heard a toad strangler.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Well the rain event has filled out 5 inch rain gauge!! Winds were hard but no damage other that a few tall potted plants tipped over. It was slow enough moving that the water didn't back up into my yard...yea!!
I hope everyone faired as well.

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

My rain barrels are full again ... i wish I had more

East Texas, TX

ours didn't get here until sometimes right before daybreak. we have had 2.5 so far and still coming down

Arlington, TX

I don't know how much we got, seemed like more than the 2.5 reported on the news to me.
C

East Texas, TX

we ended up with a little over 3 inches...hoping it is over...that gives us 7 inches in the past week. things are getting a bit soggy, but am thankful for the rain.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I went outside this morning and couldnt figure what that noise was. It was the river, its about 2 miles from here but I could hear it running. What a great sound. I have no idea how much rain we got. When I went to the feed store I kept thinking there is something else I need, NOW I remember whay it is. lol

Arlington, TX

I got no rain all week except today so I am very glad for it. It was cloudy every day last week but not a drop of rain at my house.
C

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Got just over 5" in Rowlett. Yahooooo!

Carla

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)
