Coffee Break # 75

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh no. Hope she heals quickly. How is your son??

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh no.. poor baby

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Is it worth starting greens by seed indoors?? Anyone do it?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Victor!! Are you talking about Meschlin mix lettuces?
My sister starts them in a planter outside in Late April in Z6

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

never tried.. if it's too warm they will bolt and taste bad

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Any of them. Mixes or individual types like escarole, buttercrunch, etc.

Thomaston, CT

Easier to direct seed in early April.....just plant a little, then keep planting every other week, otherwise greens will bolt at the first sign of heat....Hard to believe people were so insensitive at 911 Memorial....just thinking back to that day saddens me.....Jen, hope the little ones get better soon.....

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Praying her little face heals quickly. Kiddos certainly keep us on our toes.

Saddens me, too, RD. My niece noticed an airliner flying low that morning and figures it was one of the ones into the towers. I need to visit there one day with her. She used to work there and lost many friends.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Jen, how awful! Hope she heals well.

Karen

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Poor baby , Jen...give her an extra scoop of ice cream for being such a trooper! :)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thanks everyone she def is a trooper didn't want to leave school, wanted to go back to class.

Son is doing much better back to school tomorrow...and you are not going to believe it, hubby is sick again......are you kidding me???????

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh No! When it rains, it pours. Hope you all bounce back quicker than you'd think, Jenn. Mishaps and illness are so exhausting.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

When one person gets sick it's a domino effect. Hope hubby gets well soon and you and DD don't get it.

Karen

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Awww, Jen, hope your little girl heals nicely. My son did a face-plant on the asphalt in the playground when he was in pre-school. Two days later I had to take him for his passport photo. The whole left side of his face around his eye was one giant scab. Great photo. It's all gone now, covered up by teenage pimples!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

All you Lobster lovers....read this!
http://www.pressherald.com/news/27-pound-lobster-caught-off-coast-to-be-tossed-back_2012-02-23.html

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Yeaaaaaa toss it back. I'm not a Mainer but cousin says those huge ones dont make good eating.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

They don't they are tough!

Cresson, PA(Zone 6a)

Jen.. hope everyone heals up quickly! Isn't it amazing how things come in THREE's?! LOL! I swear by that "rule" these days. Seems anytime one of my kids gets sick, 2 others in the house get it (rarely ever all 4 of us LOL! Usually its my kids first then hubby and by the time it reaches me, even though I'm the one taking care of them all... I either don't get it or get the milder end of it LOL!)... same can be said for us with things breaking around the house! One thing goes then 2 others break. What could have costed like $50 to fix just for one thing, add up to over $200 to fix all three! LOL!

victor.. I'm not sure about greens, as I don't usually plant them (my MIL does a lot of that kinda stuff I think), but I was wondering the same thing about veggies. More because I'm just itching to keep my hands in dirt, regardless of the fact that its February LOL! I've been debating on trying to start a few veggies indoors at the beginning of march... like peppers. I'm just trying really really hard to push away the temptation of it, mostly because I'm not entirely sure of exactly WHEN my hubby is going to be able to build my raised garden this spring, so I don't want to start things too terribly early in case he's not able to get it built until later than I hope. lol.

Cresson, PA(Zone 6a)

Ok, I just had to share this lol.

I "follow" this guy (creator of www.douggreensgarden.com) on FB and Google+. He posted this video on Google+, and I just got the biggest kick out of this LOL!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm considering that for vole controle and Creeping Jenny.

Cresson, PA(Zone 6a)

LOL! I hear ya there! I have problems with voles too.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

((((Hugs)))) for you Jen, sounds like you need them. I hope all is better soon for you.

Don't do greens Victor sorry can't help.

My poor GD Sophie is having a real hard time dealing with Atticus' death and now she has the stomach bug...this is round two for them, all were sick a few weeks ago...what the heck!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Jen, hoping things are looking brighter this morning.

Lugs, hugs for dear Sophie. Praying she feels better soon.

Thomaston, CT

Hugs for those that need them today...yes, when it rains, it pours! Love that solution to clashing plants....wish I could do that to select areas in this yard.....am hosting 2 women tonight, members of a choir from Africa, currently living in Portland, ME....and that Maine lobster resembles one my stepson caught, & put under his jacket to hide! He made chowder out of it, & swears it wasn't tough....however, Michael eats anything.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

it is good your daughter is a trooper jen - those types of injuries look worse than they really are - plenty of pictures! :)

celeste saw that lobster on the news last night - glad they are putting back in the ocean

victor greens come up quick - as marilyn says just sow them in april (maybe march this year?)

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Hey - do you think that solution for plants that clash would work on neighbors? (Just kidding.)

South Hamilton, MA

Tough way to weed as well.

I hope the daughter is feeling better.

Cresson, PA(Zone 6a)

LOL ayankeecat... prolly but wouldn't advise it lol

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Had to share that lobster story on FB. Glad they're letting it go.

LOL @ that video on how to deal with plants that clash. Would be nice to use that technique on any unsightly trash in a neighbor's yard.

Ronnie, I hope all in your family who are currently sick will just get the heck better soon!

Karen

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

that lobster was HUGE

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Amazing before and after from the Japanese quake last year.

http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2012/02/japan-earthquake-before-and-after/100251/

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Now can you show us New Orleans before and after pics? bet some places look exactly like they were just hit with a hurricane

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

true Jen,
there are places that are abandoned and never rewnewed.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Amazing!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The Japanese are incredible. If that occurred here it would take years to get it that clean. Union fights over who does the work. Environmental impact studies for years. Cost would triple.

Thomaston, CT

Wow...they still have a lot of rebuilding to do, but it certainly has been cleaned up......the 3 dams here are still closed after the Oct. 29th snowstorm.....wish I could show the rangers those photos!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Little guy came in first in his den in this year's Pinewood Derby heat. Pack Finals next Friday.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

congrats! My son always had fun making his cars interesting.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. It's fun.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Woohoo, little guy!!! Good luck in the finals
