Preparation for spring

Thomaston, CT

I am planting my peas this weekend, Don.

Morgantown, WV

I got 18 earthboxes prepared today. Tomorrow finishing up cleaning on deck. So glad I got that job done. Suppose to be in the 70s for the next week here. Weather is crazy this year.

Picked up 5 yards of mulch today

Wow first time ever our grass had to be cut in March!
Lost of beds cleaned out and the new fence is up. I know have a whole section of the yard that NO dogs are allowed.

Does anyone know the best way to get rid of grass?

I got my peach tree and cherry tree planted today. Also got the cleaning done on deck. I am tired and dirty!

Lunenburg, MA(Zone 5b)

I think I'm going to try planting some peas this weekend -- probably completely a waste in north central MA, but it's been such a screwy winter, why not?

Anyone else being seized by early spring tease?

luvsgartns!!! Is the grass in an area where you want a garden?

Yes Jo it is.

I sugest a layerd garden aka Lasagna. It needs to be started a year ahead of when you want to plant.

I made this one in 2009 and didnt realize how long it takes to disolve the grass. It was a planting nightmare.
This is an article about Lasagns

Thanks Jo, yours looks great. I thought about that but don't want to wait a year. I think we are going to try and use some of it for sod in the upper yard and what we cant dig out I guess the dreaded round up. I've been seeing a lot of things about vinegar, wonder if it kills down to the roots?

Got lots of clean up done, can't believe this weather!

It can't be the regular vinegar though, you need to get the stronger strength....

amazingly to kill grass in a short amount of time, I have just turned my wheelbarrow over , it's amazing, even though it's not sealed off the ground under it has no weeds or no grass

When I want to do a new bed immediately, I just do layers of newpaper, but on topsoil or garden soil and layer on the mulch then cut holes for the plants
that's how I had to do the shade corner cause we lost the tree where the garden used to be so I had to plant in a hurry

Thats what I had to do. Cut holes where I needed plants. A month hadnt disolved the newspaper.
