General Discussion & Chat: Today, I am thankful for...#12

Today I am very grateful to have so few eating restrictions. I can enjoy so many different healthy foods w/o complication from allergies or interactions with medicines.

Oh boy, I'm thankful Vickie wasn't hurt, either! I'm thankful, also, to have folks I can complain to, even when I don't have anything to complain about at the moment.

Thankful today we had Nyquil on hand for DH when he came home sick.

And extremely thankful for the mild Winter we're having.

Went from Denver , west into Utah in November several years ago . Stopped at a pulloff overlooking a canyon in Utah . Got out and it was the coldest I've ever been . Had a down parka on and was colder , with the wind , than it was in Minn at 30° below . Thankful I don't live there .lol
Thankful for more rain the next few days
Propane
Tomato plants in the stores .

Been cloudy all day and some rain . We had a little sleet for a few minutes , then mixed with rain . It was warm and almost unbelieveable ! But then , This is Texas .
Thankful the day is over and I can sit back and rest . Been under the weather last two days and have the Don't Want To

This area has gone from the second hottest, driest summer on record to the wettest winter on record. More rain tomorrow. For which I am deeply thankful. Love sleeping in on a weekend morning when it is cool and rainy. And the more the rain, the better moisture-deprivation recuperation my perennials and shrubs will have...

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

TX must be getting all the rain we're not. It's been one of the driest and warmest winters on record. I hope that doesn't carry over into the growing season. Nice iris. Love the yellow color.

Grateful for one class to be done. Next class started up an it looks like I will be spending most of the next three weeks concentrated on getting homework done.

Grateful for seeing the woodchuck the day after woodchuck's day. Means spring is around the corner.

Grateful for the snowdrops blooming in the yard.

Today I was thankful to have:

Gotten 40 cents a gallon off gasoline with my Kroger card. Who knew? :-)

Found enough coffee in cabinet that I didn't have to get dressed and head out first thing.

The indescribably lovely fragrance of this beauty.

Today, I am thankful for the beautiful afternoon, which I was home early enough to enjoy. :-) Have all kinds of things leafing out, budding, and blooming. Many of the Bradford Pears around me are blossoming their little heads..um, twigs and branches off.

Thankful for finding a forgotten Strawberry Poptart in my file drawer this afternoon.

And for the continued health of my two pooches.

Midland City, AL

I wish we could have sent KS our excess rain. We were grumbling about the erosion damage caused by recent rains and deciding what flat place we would move to. Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma were the top three. I guess I’d better wait to pack my bags until I do find a way to get rain to Kansas. :-)
Today I am thankful for weeding buddies. I don’t ever see chatting over the weed bucket replacing chatting over coffee, but it beats weeding alone. ~N~

Nadine, you are such a wise young lady.

Nice irises.

We've had a couple of days of rain. It's helped. We're still a long ways from being caught up.

Grateful for people who organize and run contra dance weekends, Hot (as in very good) musicians, and wood floors.

Today, I am thankful to have:

Greek-style Blueberry Yogurt with whole blueberries in it.

Hand made gardener's hand soap that really, really works.

A non-hybrid car that gets 35 miles to the gallon in town.

I'm thankful that Fred's OK. He was bleeding from his ear last week and it turned out to be an abscess. And is fine now.

I am grateful that my big tree didn't come down in the storm that went over us with hail wind and lots of rain. The radio said that lots of trees are down in the city. Also thank God for my dog who stayed with me in the house sitting in the hallway floor during the storm.

(Zone 7a)

So glad you're safe!

Grateful for hot soup, the smell of chocolate and zombie movies.

(Debra) Garland, TX

2012 Nissan Versa 4-dr sedan. :-) It is a special offer stripped down model. No power anything. Only one keylock on the doors. Back seats don't fold down. But it was only $15K brand new, has AC, a CVT transmission, a radio, is white (best in Texas sun), and gets that mileage. What more can I ask for? Got it in September and just has 2100 miles on it. If I take care of it, should last 20 years or better, meaning it is probably my last car. Unless we have an even worse hail storm than happened in the first weeks I had it--before even made the first payment! $4500 in damage without even any glass that had to be replaced. ExPEN-SIVE!

Tammy, thank you for posting Fred's photo. :-)

I am thankful today for a real estate broker who delivers a whole entire box full of Panera's bagels, cinnamon doughnuts, and cream cheese.

For having a job even though the forced changes cut more than $1k from my monthly net.

And for a brain that can still learn, even if it can't remember.

Dahlonega, GA

I had a '76 Chevette Scooter that was the BEST car I ever had. 38 miles to gallon on the road and I traveled around 68,000 miles a year in my work .I had around 300,000 miles on it when it blew the motor and have wanted another all these years . No air conditioner and it was hot to drive in the summer, manual transmission , no radio . Not many comforts , but well worth owning . I replaced an axle, timing belt . That's the only repairs that little puddle jumper ever cost me except tires and oil , you know , regular upkeep .
Thankgful for knowing that little car . General Motors would do good to bring them back .For around town driving , I don't mind a little discomfort.
Cold collards for a lite breakfast snack . ( I'm weird )

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Please share some of those cold collards with me.Did you grow them? Whats weird abut collards for breakfast? Turnip greens either?LOL
Have been feeling a little off center. Scoot has been a love! He's been staying close and I feel he cares.
I had a new Ford Fiesta, when they came out. Loved that car. It got good gas milage too. Wish I had it now.
No sign of spring here yet.

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Tam - Glad Fred is doing well. Nice picture of Fred and the hens.

Glad you didn't have issues with the storm and your dog stayed in the hallway.

Debra - nice looking car. White would be a better car color in TX.

(Debra) Garland, TX

Sally, I had a Chevette once, too. Bright red, with mud tires on the back (there was a dirt lane with a 90-degree turn between my home and work and I needed the traction). Had so much fun in it. But it threw off four timing belts in one year and, at the end, a roommate's 15 year old son stole it with some friends (because it had more gas in it than Mom's car) and they damaged the transmission--so I traded it for a 1980 Chevy 1500 pickup truck. BIG change there. No more roommates after that. LOL Not practical now, but I LOVED that truck...

Vickie, I had a silver Fiesta in 1987. Very fond of that car. Stripped down box, but I didn't get any vehicle in the divorce and only paid $400 for the thing. Moved an entire apartment by myself with it (didn't have furniture, then, either).

Interesting to me to consider what we drive and what might be behind choosing those cars, trucks, and vans. I've had a 1963 Nash Rambler, 1964 Chevy Impala station wagon, 1969 Plymouth Fury, 1970 Toyota Corona, 1965 Ford Galaxie 500, 1979 Pinto (with the exploding gas tank :-), 1976 Malibu, 1976 Chevette, 1980 Chevy truck, 1976 Ford Fiesta, 1979 Subaru 1600, 1990 Honda Civic Hatchback, 2001 Dodge Neon, and the Nissan. Think I forgot a couple, but each of these has a story with it. If I were a more energetic writer, could make a book. Life lessons, with each chapter headed by them in chronological order. :-D
=====================================================================================
I am thankful to have had the experiences with each vehicle I've driven. Been fortunate to have had the opportunity to drive everything from basic boxes to high-end luxury cars. And had the opportunities to be without any car at all to learn what is really important in having one--reliability, economy, and just a little comfort. :-)

Thankful for another lovely day. Sunshine and 60s today.

Thankful for the 21 year old employee who has volunteered to mow my yard for which I would previously have paid him. With having been ill and losing the income, money is extraordinarily tight. It is extraordinarily kind and generous of him to do it gratis.

somewhere, PA

Debra - my first car was a 1971 Plymouth Fury with an oversized engine! I bought it in 1980 when gas prices were super high - got it cheap. That car was such a hoot! I got 6-8MPG but I could haul everything a college student could ever want. I fit 2 full kegs, a half keg with tubs, ice, cups and munchies in the trunk and could fit 11 people in the car. The passenger side door didn't latch well and would fly open on occasion. I still remember grabbing my roommate as she started to slide over when the door flew open. I bought it 'cause I lived off campus and my junior year classes got moved to 7-10pm 'cause they were so huge. (It was probably the biggest class ever for Electrical Engineering - were 160-something kids in my classes). I didn't feel safe walking at night alone.

What fond memories when thinking of my early cars! The next car I got was an Opel Manta. It was well used but was a manual transmission. I didn't know how to drive it and didn't know to pull up a little ring on the stick to get in reverse. I slipped the linkage a few times before the guy at the dealer told me about the ring. Someone had removed the muffler and it was LOUD. I told my room mate how cool I was in that car - people would turn around and admire my car. She told me that were just aghast at how loud it was. LOL It was rusted on the bottom. Apparently someone had disconnected the circuit that wouldn't let you start the car if the seatbelt wasn't connected. Every time I hit a puddle, water would come in and the circuit would short. The alarm would go off and I'd have to brace up w/o sitting to start the car again.

My first new car was a Toyota Starlet. It got 54MPG on the highway & 45MPG in the city. For real. But was a death trap so I only kept it 3yrs.

I'm thankful to have such fond memories triggered by this thread today.

Uh-huh, that truck could tell some stories, too. Starting with a slew of Marshall Tucker and my two favorite Daniels - Charlie and Jack. :-) Fun to think of the things we did when younger that we wouldn't do now, but are glad we did then. :-D

I am thankful this morning for the Muscari in bloom, the Gazania that overwintered, and the Cyclamen that came back from seeming oblivion.

Thankful for Gatorade/Powerade slushies.

And thankful this morning for the sometimes obnoxious, but generally comforting barking whenever my terrier mixes hear something outside.

Today I am infinitely thankful that, while it IS worsening, the severity of MS in me is still manageable and mostly pain-free.

I am thankful to see the Dutch Iris sending up blooms, the Roses putting out buds, and the Dianthus flowering their little heads off.

I am thankful for chocolate fudge sundaes.

(Zone 7a)

So nice to see growth on your plants, Deb. We have tulips and daffys popping up.

Today, I'm thankful for a loving DH and for lemon pie.

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

The first car I drove was probably an orange VW bug. The first car I owned was a blue '70 Ford Mustang with a 305hp engine. Loved driving that car.

Grateful for former colleagues, funny pictures, and a DH who cooks.

(Debra) Garland, TX

I am happily thankful for low salt Fritos and Lays chips.
For old books that are old friends.
And for two pair of new, unscratched bifocal eyeglasses.

I can so relate to that one. Old books can be such a comfort.

Today, I'm thankful for a place other than the ER and my Drs. office to get stitches. I cut my finger last night and it isn't an emergency but it's too long a wait for my regular Dr. Whomever thought up up the in-between place should be hugged until oxygen becomes an issue! (And I mean that in a good way! LOL)

Also, thankful large locking safes, sweet kitty snuggles and hot coffee.

(Debra) Garland, TX

Thankful today for ...

...continued mild sunshiny weather.

...beef fajitas without bell peppers, but WITH lots and lots of pico de gallo.

...hand mirrors.

I'm thankful for a few joyous moments playing with the kitties. I'm always amazed at the youngest pair. They chase sticks (but don't bring 'em back yet). They just look so happy running around when someone is out there with them!

keep those fingers safe kwanjin!
Tam

(Zone 7a)

My fingers are nice and safe now. LOL Got them all tucked in!

We have a cat who used to fetch. He loved playing with the plastic milk ring. We'd flick it off something, he would chase it down and bring it back to start the game all over again. Another of our cats will field flicked paper wads. She will do some amazing acrobatics to catch them but won't do anything with them after that.

somewhere, PA

Oh those plastic milk rings are the very favorite toys in this house! All the kitties like chasing them around & batting them down the stairs. :-)

I'm with you on being thankful for mass transit Debra! Wish I had a good ripe tomato recently enough to share that gratitude today. :-)

I'm thankful for the wisdom my years on this earth have given me and with it the ability to let snipes & barbs just roll off my back.
