I am so sorry lizzieshome52
have you tried any of the Earth-kind roses studied for our harsh climate from Aggie?

"Earth-Kind is a special designation given to select rose cultivars by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service through the Earth-Kind landscaping program. It is based on the results of extensive research and field trials and is awarded only to those roses demonstrating superior pest tolerance, combined with outstanding landscape performance.

Earth-Kind roses do well in a variety of soil types, ranging from well-drained acid sands to poorly aerated, highly alkaline clays. Once established, these select cultivars also have excellent heat and drought tolerance.

The use of Earth-Kind roses provides the opportunity to enjoy these wonderful flowering plants while limiting the use of fertilizers, pesticides, and water. These sustainable practices are excellent examples of how Earth-Kind landscaping is working to preserve and protect our natural resources and the environment. yes...I have some earthkind...and those survived. it was some of my old garden shrub that I lost. I was so sad over those. I was reading online somewhere the other day that texas/oklahoma is predicted to have a cooler than average summer this year....I hope they are right....but, I am planting smarter this year just in case and for the long haul.

No pictures, but...., daffodils are in full bloom, cone flowers are covered in buds, iris have buds, closely examined the redbud tree and it is budded and ready to bloom. As you say, very different from the last 2 winters. Still think this is unusually early.

Oh, the brugmansia that I left in ground has leaves poking up from the roots. Last year they didn't come up until the end of July. Fought all summer just to keep them alive in the heat.

LouC,
I think we deserve this kind of weather after the "horror" of last year.

is your LANTANA blooming now?
Mine is dormant to the ground !!

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

Marty, those look great!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Beautiful area Marty! Quite a temperature change going on up here right now. Someone left the freezer door open!
The only thing blooming here is the double bloom iris, my fringe flower shrub and paper whites. Daffs just started to bloom, guess mine are planted really deep. Yours are lovely drthor!

Wildlife have been frantically trying to feed this week. The dogs have chased off a huge heron after fish, ferral cats, rats, squirrels and tonight was an owl that landed on the upper deck railing! Probably trying to get the field rats that get at the birdfeeders at night. The dogs started barking like crazy while looking out the back door; I went to let them out and saw it make a semi-circle swoop as it left the yard. Cedar Waxwings and a few robins have been at the pond off and on until today. If I remember they said the chill temps would be in mid-teens....no more 70s for a while.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, Dr Thor. I have three colors of Lantana and all are blooming. Vinca is blooming, Snowdrops, Forsythia, Snapdragons, Pansies, Lady in Red, Mealy Blue and Hot Lips Sage, Roses, Oxalis, Redbud, Brugmansia, Firespike, Ageratum. In the AM around 8 we go to 32 degrees but it should not stay there long. Not at all like last two years where everything froze to the ground.

Sheila, my paper whites bloomed last of Dec and are finished now. My Sasanqua Camellia bloomed then and is finished now. The asters and chrysanthemums are done also.

Randy (RJ) lives in the Heights. He has an unbelievable garden. Must be some sort of super climate pocket there somewhere.
