Here is another portion of our 1/2 mile driveway. Fortunately it is shared with 7 homes, so there will be a big workparty this weekend.
Show Us Your Snow!
Uffda, Sharon!
Oh my! That is a mess. Stay safe while cleaning it up, as there are probably more limbs still weighted down with snow and ice, ready to fall if disturbed.
Hardhats??
Our lights came back on this afternoon, but have been flickering on and off, so I don't know how long until we are plunged into the dark again by another falling tree.
Springcolor, did that tree go down on your house?? Or is that an outbuilding? Pretty scary either way. I am glad no one way hurt.
Springcolor- I drove right by your place at 2 pm-did not notice a thing but of course I was focused on the icy road!. Glad it fell away from the house!
The building is a garage. It missed the building. Just a few shurbs are lost. Hard to tell with all the snow. For sure my viburnum 'Oriental spice' is toast. I have been watching the news and our damage is nothing. Feel very fortunate!! MLM you can see down to the house much better.. I kind of like the open feel. More sun when it shines!!
Sharon and Julie keep us posted. Hope your power is fixed soon.
The governor has declared a state of emergency for Lincoln County. You wouldn't know a thing about that if you lived up here by me, just that the river is a bit high! So I'm still not tempted to leave the house unless I run out of beer or cat food.
And it's probably good for me not to run to the store every other day to get the stuff I like to eat every day, instead rummaging through the cabinets & pantry & using up stuff that is on hand.
Stay safe, Summer!!!
Rain came down in buckets last night again. From a gardening perspective, I'm thinking about how all of this rain is literally washing away all of the nutrients in my soil. And my constant battle against clay. Going to need another 3 units of compost delivered this year. Every year I think, "At least I won't have to dig this compost in next year." But every year, I look at the soil and it seems to revert back to clay a little bit.
Washingtonians: crossing fingers the ice doesn't damage your plants and cause too much die-back on things like ceanothus and escallonia (those are two things that most suffer in my yard from ice or low temps). Snow itself seems to protect plants, so that snow cover under the ice will probably help out a lot.
Hmmm, beer and cat food sounds like a well rounded diet.
We have absolutely fantastic neighbors. The road was totally passable by the time Julie and I got home from work on Friday nite. It will probably take us all summer, however, to get things looking better again. And last night about midnight we got power back! I am almost afraid to go out and check the damage around the place. The greenhouses are no doubt in bad shape. Oh well, guess we can always start again. Today will be spent just getting the house pulled back together again. Blankets, candles, lanterns and dirty dishes are everywhere! Well, better get at it........
Happy you are on the road to recovery!!
Aw, PNW, that's great news but I know there'll be some disappointing discoveries ahead. I'll bet it's a comfort to have Julie to share the burden with you.
We got socked again yesterday. Kosk, you OK down there in the valley? I had a massive trunk come down my creek last night & kind of change the landscape a bit; my favorite tabletop boulder appears to have been dislodged, and my bridge setup with flat stones where the scaffolding plant rests looks all torn up too. Something knocked the power out this morning too. Nothing notable compared with what you guys are going through but these power outages are messing with my schedule a bit.
That is an amazing recovery. Your bamboo is really beautiful.
Your yard is beautiful. Did that Bamboo recover or is that before the snow.(must be before the snow) Love the palm in the snow!
Thanks Willowwind2 and Springcolor.... those pictures of the bamboo were just taken today (except for the snow covered culms). It always amazes me..I still have a lot of damaged culms throughout and especially in the back...but looks good from the house! I will be getting quite an upper body workout to untangle and rearrange the canopy.
Good, all is not lost!
Awesome recovery photos!
What a beautiful picture. Is that your house connected to the greenhouse? Gorgeous!
And hello Lauribob. Welcome to PNW forum.
Thanks Willowwind,
I'm Bonehead's sister and she's always telling me how fun you guys all are on this forum, so I thought I'd join in. My greenhouse is pretty small - just big enough to start some seeds in the spring. It's attached to our pump house and a tool room/storage room. By the middle of February, it begins to get warm enough in there to just sit in a chair and soak up the sun. (about the time you feel like spring will never get here.) I love it! Here's an old picture of the inside, when it was new. It looks a little more "lived in" now.
Holy mackerel! That is a major 'house. Who built it? I'm stealing the glass-block idea.
More pix please! Many more.
Love your greenhouse! More pictures of it please. Welcome to DG and the PNW forum! Both you and BH have beautiful homes!
That is the best greenshed. Hope you can move it to your new home. I remember the project!
