For the last four days a number of local birders have been trying to locate the roosting area of a Great Gray Owl seen repeatly near the Lake Hood portion of Anchorage International Air Port. Turns out it has been watching all of us, from the back porch of a vacant house, on the outside of the air port fence.

Great pics everyone!
Gary, Great to see you! Love the Great Gray Owl and Northern Hawk Owl! Handsome Magpie!
Wow! Beautiful pictures folks.
Love the Owls, especially the Great Gray Owl fooling the birders.
The Owls are impressive! Love the Black-billed Magpie as well. Thanks Gary.
I always knew Ohio weather was screwy sometimes, but this is ridiculous! Yesterday it was 55 degrees when I got to work, today it is 29 and snowing! At least the wind has died down , last night when I came out of work, I thought I was going freeze right where I was standing, it was so cold. I filled the feeder so the babies could stay warm and also put some fresh water out. My hubby said next week it could get up to the middle 50s during the day and drop down to the low 30s at night! Crazy man! Here is the neighbors car across the road, the white specks you see are snowflakes.
Gary, awesome owl shots!! How cool that you got both!
Teddy, same crazy weather here.......yesterday morning it was almost 60 then dropped all afternoon!
All your birds are so beautiful.
You're welcome Burn.
Not much doing here, too cold and windy to be outside for very long.
I have nothing to post, but would like to say what a great thread this and the last thread are/were.
Chilly, nice one of your harrier.
Lily, just wait till it's nesting time and I'll bet your crows will chase the hawks away.
Gras, the photos of the owl and mapie are awesome! I've heard owls are intelligent-this one sure was.
Red, that shelduck is just beautiful. Great shot of the pintail too.
Teddy, glad your cardinal is at your feeder.
Burn, cute closeup of your goldfinch.
Met, love your coot photos. I'm always amazed with those large feet but I know they're good for dragging the bottoms of the lakes.
Granny great photos of your titmouse.
Here's one of my bluebirds.
GG, Cute ones of your Titmouse!
Duc, Love the shot of the Cowbird and sweet Wren!
Sweet Hummingbird duc!
Beautiful Teal red!
Hi adel, Love the Quail!
Gary, The Great Gray Owl is wonderful!
Gary, I like that bow tie on the GGO. But he looks so grumpy for the occassion. lol Hah, Adel, the California Quails sure are huddling together in the snow! I wished I were in Florida about now too. I enjoyed all the pics. but those Greenwing Teals really got my attention, Red. Not much happening here, I've many a Gold finches visit daily in the month of Jan. I've tried to be on the look out for Eagles' nest nearby, no activity at the nesting site. Will post pics. when I do see 'em.
Gary, I've only been keeping a life list for a couple of years, but 4 or 5 years ago in the winter, I'm sure I saw a Great Gray owl in Oklahoma. I had taken my grandsons target shooting on Christmas break and it was perched on a fence post along the road. I stopped and backed up to get a better view and it just sat there. No camera, of course. Looked it up when I got home. Another bird I don't have on my list.
The Greater Scaup are still on the big pond, but swim to the back when I drive up, fly if I walk up. Didn't even try to shoot them this a.m. Had 6 Ring-necked Ducks and they are shy too. Shot this one, the ring is visible on his neck. Taken at some distance and cropped considerably.
Lovely shots Duc. That Egret with the reflected image in the water is just fantastic. Wow!
Duc, Great detail in the Moorhen shot!
Nice pics guys!
Great photos!!
This guy has been hanging around lately, probably checking out the flock of sparrows at the feeder, although so far the only thing I've seen him stoop on has been a mouse/vole.
Is he a red-tailed hawk? He just seems too big for that, although I've probably only seen them at a little more of a distance than this. (This tree is in the middle of our back yard, so we get a great view from the house!) There have been bald eagles in the area, and I don't know all their color morphs either.
