Time for a new thread. Tons of beautiful pictures on the previous thread. Here is a link if you want to take another look at them.

How about an upside down Downy.

And a Dee. I do not have much luck with these guys. They either have no eyes, one eye, etc. This one does have two eyes--but no beak showing! LOL

And last one for now, I like the colors of this Male Cardinal "hiding" in the Mock Orange Shrub. Sorry about the twig, but I like it so I left it.

I BORROWED "PICCIES" FROM RESIN--I LIKE THAT ALSO. LOL

I am going to do this again, I got a bottle of Spice Supreme Crushed Red Pepper, I am going to mix it with some sunflower seeds and put it on the platform feeder for some of the larger birds. The store did not have Cayenne Pepper so I am going to try this and will let you know who eats it and who don't.

Oh GG....great catch on the wren!! I have been hearing them in the mornings when I put the suet out. Those dee are very hard ....I have lots with no eyes!

Thanks for the new thread GG...love the Wren. I still have not seen a Carolina this year...haven't heard one either. Those Dees are hard for me to photograph too...I think it is their coloring that makes it so difficult. You are doing great with that new lens and it looks like you are having fun with it...good for you!

GP...so nice to see an Indigo, can't wait 'til they return to our area. Your Painted on the last thread were beautiful also and I am still hoping to see one some day.

I have some pics I have taken this year...the first is a female Purple Finch.

Gardenpom, love that Bunting and Mockingbird.

Wonderful shots Rose. Love them all, but that female Cardinal is absolutely gorgeous. Perhaps I will reprogram my broom to fly to your house and swipe a pair of purple finch. Burn's house is further away. LOL

Probably still have to go to her house and swipe a Crow or two.

Awesome shots Rose!! I have not had any purples for a couple of years now, nice to see yours!

Question, I found a zip lock baggie, put some sunflower seeds and then put some crushed red pepper in it too, shook it up real good, do you think it will be enough to deter the squirrels, or should I try something else?

Lakeview, OH

got this little lady late this afternoon in the bush across the street. I hope that you can see her pretty good.

I am gone a day and look at all these pretty birds. :) Thank you for the great start GrannyGrunt. We hoped to see one of these today, but alas, we didn't.
We saw lots of Chickadees, Nuthatches and Cardinals at a bird blind we visited this morning. I was thrilled to see a White-throated Sparrow. Not a lifer, but we only saw them a couple days in the spring at our place.
That Cooper's is following me. It was in town when we went to see if my glasses were done. :D It must have been waiting for the movie theatre to open up. That's the roof it was parked on.

Eying you up for its dinner?

Nice start GG!

Wonderful pics everyone!

This is my sunflower seeds mixed with red pepper flakes, do think it is mixed enough? I know that I can smell the pepper flakes even when it is in the zip lock bag. Do you think I should add any more red pepper flakes?

Nice birds, Granny and everyone. I don't often have wrens around the house, but had a Carolina Wren around the study porch this a.m. No pic.Haven't been on the board in awhile and not taking many bird pics. Here is a scissortail from last summer. It is molting, so don't know if it's a male or female. I always look forward to these guys returning to the field behind the house.

I did take a pic of Mama Bluebird the other day. Sitting on the post to the honeysuckle trellis.

After mentioning that I have been hearing the Carolina Wrens yesterday, one decided to show up at the feeder! I just had time to get a couple of quick shots off before it was gone.

And had a Song Sparrow today! They are here year round but rarely come to the yard. The winter sparrows seem few this year. Even when I walk I don't see the numbers I have in past years.

Cardinals yesterday out on the platform. With the cold the last few days they are out there pretty much all day.

Love the Scissortail and the Blue Bird Red. Beautiful shots.

Nanny, your little Wren looks cold. Love the Cardinals, they too look cold. It is 16 degrees here right now at 2:56 p.m. Brrrrrrrrr!

I have been using my hubby's tripod today and here is a good pic of the rb wp with a seed.

We were in the 30's today but we had wind today so it felt colder.

Nice catch teddy.

The mixture worked, there was a squirrel who tasted it and scooted down the tree and buried his mouth and nose in the snow, it was hilarious! I finally got a picture of a squirrel drinking out of the birdbath, it was frozen and I got the ice out of it and put some cool water in it, and just looked out there and something had knocked it over. Here is my inexpensive and cheap birdbath. The mixture is sunflower seeds and Spice Supreme Crushed Red Pepper seasoning I put it in a zip lock baggie and shook it up like you do when you do the Shake and Bake for pork chops. This stuff is so strong that even with the baggie closed and sealed, you can still smell it. Here is the birdbath.

been trying to get a picture of a squirrel drinking out of the birdbath, and today I got him. I think it was because of the red crushed pepper seasoning! Anyway after several tries, they stopped trying to eat it.
