Coffee Break #70 It's 2012!!

East Bridgewater, MA

A full box of kleenex...hope the dark skies clear soon for those of us with burdens and challenges.

Thomaston, CT

That poem is a great comfort.....Victor, Kathy, my step DIL, cannot use her left arm at all....she can manage a few steps on a walker some days, but not always...she's pretty much in a wheelchair....her long term memory is OK, short term is not. When my stepson stayed with me over Christmas, he said he has the wife he knew only a few days a month...he's hoping to get her home, but I can't see that happening.....

Def a tearjerker

Robin, maybe he can try to have her home for a little to see how it works and if not then can she go to an assisted living?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I love the poem Celeste, I'm going to save that.

2012 and I just saw 7 robins in the yard and its supposed to be 0 tonight !

Hey Sherrie! Happy New Year. Where you been hiding?

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I called for appliance repair and got the washer fixed - maybe I just didn't get the pump reseated correctly myself and I had the dryer belt tightened and greased. Came to $179 for 1 1/2 hours and a little grease. The repairman lives within walking distance of my house - why did I go to college - I should have taken up a trade - I'd be rich by now!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Actually, that is not that bad by today's standards. I have a problem with my Sears dishwasher and will probably do better with a local repair person.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Both the washer and dryer are circuit board free and I intend to keep them running until I can't anymore. The repair guy noticed that the water pressure to the washer is really low and reminded me that I am burning electricity keeping the switch to fill the tub open.

Increasing flow to the washer was on my list four years ago when I had the new furnace put it. So many things on my list just got ignored and I had a contractor running the job! For 15% of $10k you think he could have gotten everything on my list done! Just about to figure out how to fix it myself - those DIY programs make it look so easy! Although - I am a little afraid of the torch - not too good with fire.

The same contractor/plumber replaced the furnace in my neighbors house a couple of weeks ago. He put in a unit that is a boiler and on demand hot water - that is what I wanted and didn't get. Sadly to say, I think they gouged my elderly neighbor - I swore I would not recommend that contractor (my girl friend's husband) again. He never even said thank you for the referral! At least his bid started out at about half of what another company wanted.

Not hiding anywhere except auctions and the site I sell on. Found an new phrase today and OMG its not Oh my God or Gosh.

Small Claims case against Honda and hybrid mileage.

Jen, assisted living would be nice, but they can't afford that....Kathy would have to go into a nursing home, & Mike just can't stand the thought.....but I cannot see him taking care of her either....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cat, almost all the hybrids and electrics have been major, expensive flops. The Volt is the worst.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Looks like 2012 starting to look like 2011 for us already. My wife was hit from behind while waiting at a red light. The guy took off. She did not get his license plate. She is fine but there is damage to the car. $500 deductible to greet us. Wonderful.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Sorry Victor!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. Hoping those Mayans were right...^_^

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thankful she wasn't hurt, Victor. Could have been much worse. Any cameras in the area?

Waiting to hear how my cuz made out with hip replacement surgery today. He is 57 I think. His sister has had foot surgery and double knee replacement. Big Swedes we are. Hopefully I won't have to deal with that.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not that we know of, Jan.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Interesting about that National Geographic article. I recently read "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle. He describes an evolving of humankind in it very beautifully. He relates it to botany, which I particularly liked.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

hope that is your last bad news for the year now Victor!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Me too. Thanks.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh geez, Victor glad she was ok

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Sometimes those hits from the back have delayed effects. My DIL started to have neck discomfort later in the same situation.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Then maybe I should hit her from the front??? ^_^

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Rear ending is a bummer. A few years ago this happened to me six times over two years. Chiropractor was the only thing that helped me vs. trying the orthopedic solutions, which were painful. I hope Victors wife doesn't have any whiplash.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

She seems fine, thanks. I got hit hard from behind once. Had a headache, but that was all.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

So glad your wife wasn't hurt Victor!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

glad she is ok victor

harper that does not sound like an approving article of mankind

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Funny video on the Mayans.

Oh, no....sorry about Mrs. Victor......any accident shakes you up.....what a rat to leave the scene, probably didn't have a license.....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

anyone here about the lady out walking her two golden's in the woods and got shot by a state trooper who was out hunting - no charges against the trooper - audio of the 911 call had him asking the lady what she was doing out in the woods with two goldens the same color as a deer.

apparently he claimed a deer had just gone down this trail and when he saw one of the dogs tails he thought it was the deer and fired. shouldn't you need to see the WHOLE deer before shooting!

lady should have been wearing some bright clothing as common sense - still it is not her fault these hunters should be held responsible, especially a state trooper.........

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Nope sorry...if it's hunting season you don't walk around the woods without bright colors....and need to have the dogs in bright coats too.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i think i said that - still not her fault

a hunter should know what they are shooting at before pulling the trigger - i can tell a dog from a deer and certainly a 60+ yr old women from a deer - give me a break!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

How many shots did he fire??

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

one - evidently the season on what you can use just changed to a round ball - if this had happened earlier the bullets used then would have killed her.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Im sorry, if she had orange on or not, it's the hunters fault. The first thing they teach you in a hunters safety course is "100 percent identification' before shooting a target," PERIOD!
And if he's a trooper, on top of being a hunter... he knew that.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

We just had a hunter shot a pet Lab last week. The dog had orange on and he was a black lab. Hunter is being charged.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I agree - especially since he is a TRAINED user of firearms.
