As it's becoming more hectic closer to Christmas, do you prepare easier meals???

Hadn't really thought about that.

Leftovers tonight.

Thomaston, CT

Well, I certainly eat out more....had a southwestern salad for lunch which was very good...babysitting tonight, making mac & cheese for the kids.....

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

I don't know if 'easier' in the prep or the mess, but I make more food by volume so that I have leftovers.

More stews, gravy (tomato sauce) Soups, Pasta and _______ dishes (peas, chop meat, shrimp, broccoli, etc. etc.)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I think for me, when it gets closer and I'm baking more I get sick of eating, so I make smaller meals. Would be great if I could eat out more
and as it gets colder I do more crockpot and comfort foods

Tonight was ham steak

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Tonight chuck pot roast in the crock pot. Some red wine will be added.

Mount Laurel, NJ

Somehow December makes me want to eat eat eat! I'm not much of a cook, but I bought a lot of really nice apetizers at Trader Joes (along with a couple hundred dollars worth of other great things from them). The apetizers are for me, but the other things I put in gourmet food baskets as a Christmas present for my kids. My daughter is very frugal with food, only shopping at Aldi, Bottom Dollar etc, so she especially, finds this a real treat.

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Tonight it will be a big fritatta - potatoes and eggs with some cheese and then topped with tomatoes....and a cup of nice hot coffee! Hubby will have a roll with it. Not me because there will be a part of today where I will eat something somebody has brought in to the department that is buttery and fattening. It is murder around here with everyone bringing in cookies and toffee and all sorts of treats.

Thomaston, CT

Too tempting...a friend made me cookies which I then passed on to son...he can eat anything & not gain an ounce....I have leftover mac & cheese since the grandies ate about 2 spoonfuls!

Veggie lasagna

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice. How do you make it?

I did turkey sausage and tomato sauce with pasta.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

The lasagna? I made a white sauce and added some swiss, mozzerella, parmesan and romano cheeses, layered noodles, spinach, and shredded carrots with the sauce. I didn't even think about ricotta cheese, not sure why not...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Chili here too.

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

Didn't make it - but sure helped eat it. I do not challenge the talents of my mother nor my wife when it comes to meals.

Dad's 90th birthday brought roasted lamb shanks with carrots and shiitake mushroom sauce over pasta; green salad; and potica (Slovenian pastry, pronounced po-teet-sa).

Salutations included 2007 Petit Sirah and a 2000 late harvest Pinot Gris (Mendocino County).

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You're spoiled, vv! Happy Birthday to your dad. God bless him!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Sounds wonderful! Happy Big 90th to your Dad!!!

Had Chinese last night, was good not having to cook after the Granddaughters B-Day party.

Sounds like a wonderful celebration, VV...today, going to a fellowship dinner...have ordered pork roast...hope it's as good as it has been in the past.....

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

MMMmmmm, bet your dad really enjoyed those lamb shanks! Best wishes to him on his birthday.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

had homemade pizza last night. DS asked that I do it more often. It's been awhile since I made it last.

Thomaston, CT

Sounds wonderful, Jumper!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Picked ALL the celery root from my garden - just enough to make a single pot of soup. :( So it is leek and celeriac soup with frizzled prosciutto. Made a casserole for lunches this this week with almost the last of two years ago's painted lady runner beans. (Didn't get a single bean this year.) We've had killing frosts - so the only thing left is a few medlars.

Thomaston, CT

I like celeriac, never thought about planting it! I guess most of my garden is heading into flowers, but I will still plant the basics....

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

It is one of the slowest growing vegetables. The leaves looked great - the roots were just really small.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Steak, baked taters, and a salad. Jeff was so happy. You'd think I didn't feed him. He was walking a fine line, though, when he started a sentence with" that's better than...". He finished with..."a poke in the eye".

Thomaston, CT

Sounds like something my late DH would say! I had steak as well, in a wilted salad....

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

cube steaks tonight.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)
