Me too, AYC. It is so hard to put current events into a perspective with the past. I do agree with Jan that there is tremendous change happening and that sometime things will also rebound. What worries me is that in the past year there have been more market sags and jogs than at any time since 1929.
Money Matters - Part 9

Congratulations!
Hope you enjoy the winnings, Sherrie.
Congrats, Sherrie!
yay Sherrie!
Staggering, and sickening, stat of the day, courtesy of USA Today:
•$100,000. The portion of federal workers earning $100,000 or more grew from 12% in 2006 to 22% in 2011.
...and something like over 150 members of congress have a net worth exceeding a million $$.
Yes. No surprise there - especially with their insider trading 'perk'. I remember reading a couple of years back that just a few of the senators - Kerry, Kohl and Lautenberg, and one or two more, had a greater net worth than most of the rest combined.
Can you believe all these morons killing each other over the Jordan shoes??!!! More Darwin Award candidates.
and the lady that left her newborn in the car just to go to buy a pair of them
You're gonna love this...letter from my accountant
"Do the the fact that the STATE OF NEW JERSEY has not paid back the UNEMPLOYMENT MONEY THEY RECEIVED FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, you as employers will be paying back this money with your FUTA on January 17, 2012"
Exact amount is not known until calculated next month
LOVELY
When I was in business, I always marveled at the way the government could just make those decisions as though they were either your legitimate partner, or some gangsters making you "an offer that you couldn't refuse".
Yep, definitely one of the reasons I did not enjoy being an "employer".
Can you believe all these morons killing each other over the Jordan shoes??!!! More Darwin Award candidates.
ditto
I dont know if this has been on here. 30 second commercial at the begining and then watch the meat. You have to be kidding me!

Missed it... I got the 'sorry, this video is no longer available'. Should I be glad?
Yes it is about meat glue.
Curious... why would you suggest someone be glad they missed that video, when what it points out not only the deception in a portion of the meat industry, but also the very real health reasons we should be informed enough to avoid it?
I saw the thread about that earlier. I suspected that was what it was... now one wonders how/why it disappeared today?
The video was very slow to load, segments of only a few seconds at a time... so watching was tedious. That would be one guess as to why it was taken down; the other guess would be the influence of the meat industry.
Final market numbers for 2011. Dow up 5.5%. Nasdaq down 1.8%. S&P flat. The mattress worked well this year!
Garden Sox down 6.5%.
Victor, was that for the whole year, or just today's Closing?
i am afraid to look
For the year.
Here's why I was smart to spend money on my garden in 2011: improving one's property adds curb appeal and thus, value to a home; plants in the garden are an investment for the future, which seems to grow faster and better than the financial markets; and colleges don't look at your garden when assessing financial aid. They look at your savings, which went down because of the money spent. Best of all, the enjoyment from beauty around us is priceless.
Love that reasoning!!
Thanks. We'll see if this helped the college offers in spring, when everything else comes up also.
I love that reasoning, too. Praying the offers abound.
Thanks, Jan. I truly appreciate the prayers.
great logic there rosemary :)
I'd like financial aid when i apply for retirement, just like many kids get for college. That's the creepy thing. Spend too much on college, and the kids have to bail you out when you're older.
Ch 11 for Kodak. How sad.
That is REALLY sad, hope I get my prints I just ordered
They have just not been able to adapt to digital, despite having put out one of the first digital cameras. At one time they were the world's largest user of silver.
they oem'd that camera - never really developed their own. only the high end film camera makers where able to take the leap - the film maufacturers themselves like kodak, fuji, and agfa all have had trouble with the digital age.
Great surprise! Yay.
