Thanks, bud.
Garden Projects #7
:) no problem man
Look for that Derek Jeter poster in your mailbox. ^_^
I went to the site Pixie posted...there's no wire on that one....anyway, Cindy needs hers first...then you can make mine...if you have the time & the inclination! Victor, wait your turn....
My birthday is in March--hint, hint
marilyn here it is and on sale too - http://www.gardeners.com/Stone-Owl/DecorativeAccents_Statues,39-555,default,cp.html
Bill, I love the caterpillar. Yes, make your wife a stone flower arrangement for her birthday. I've always wanted a man to give me a stone flower arrangement. He, heeee!!!!
Celeste, those are some really nice ideas. The stone patio furniture makes me think of the Flintstones. I love the ants.
That stone owl from Gardener's Supply is really cute.
Karen
Just for something really different.

pretty cool joann
Hi Bill
Gosh, he's terrific! Just the thought of all that molten glass scares me! Bill, that wasn't the owl that I craved.....the carved one in Pixie's post was the one I loved....but the gulls in her last post were great, too!
i see the one you meant marilyn - they sell those at a local nursery here - pretty expensive, they have the carved turtles there too which are even more $
I'll save up my pennies!
Anyone have a garden that is mainly to attract birds? or a garden that was planned surrounding a bird bath or feeders???
looking for some ideas to surround my feeders
running water is always good.. the sound attracts them.. fountain or pond is always a big deal
Joann, I LOVE that basalt fountain, and your garden, too! Since you're not next door, noone is ever going to say I copied Joann, meaning I can think about doing something like it in my yard. Any suggestions about where to look for something like yours?
Copying doesnt bother me. This spot is off our deck and along the property line.Luckily its shaded with the spruces that w ere planted here 20 years ago.
I bought the basalt from a local Oriental Garden place. They also installed it for me.Too big a job for me to do alone. SIL keeps the pump clean and going. We clean the reservoire in spring and fall.It fills up with worms and slugs.
This is a link to the progression

Google basalt fountains and see what you get. These big crystals come in all sizes.
I was curious to see what would come up.
WOW there are some nice ones there

I love that basalt fountain, too. Would be nice to have one in one of my gardens.
Karen
My feeder is next to the wellhouse....I plant annuals like nicotiana, angelonia, begonia around the wellhouse each year....
DH bought a small greenhouse for me last year. we finally got it up and together today.
Cool! Have fun with it. Heated??
No, it's a portable one we mounted on the edge of the patio. will post a pic as soon as I get one.
Sounds nice! Looking forward to pics. I would love to have a greenhouse.
Karen
Yay for garden projects! I love the basalt fountains. Makes me wonder if I should take a trip to Chinatown.
And I got my DH looking at greenhouses, too. Congats, Jumper for closing the deal .There's a very simple one at Mahoney's Garden Center. They heat it with forced hot air that goes through a long plastic bag that has holes in it every few feet. Course it would be even better to have a stone or brick wall on the north side and slanted windows.
Love that area Jo, what are the plants you have in that area?
It looks like you also terraced the area where there's a smaller fountain, and also added some maples, maybe some other shrubs or trees.
Joann's pic is such a nice rememberance of summer, and such a contrast to the wasteland that I see in my yard -- I tore a lot of stuff out last year, but only started the replanting. Thank goodness for the evergreens we planted when we bought the property. They're our saving grace.
This year i'm going for more shade loving evergreens at the back. The longstalk hollies and yew seem OK with their shade, but the so-called shade tolerant pine baby looks a little thin back there. The rhodi's can't bloom much there. Trying a Pragense viburnum. Fairweather gardens had a ton of unusual shade evergreens in their catalog. So far, I've said no to cherry laurel because they aren't supposed to do any good for the native critters. I'm also tired of dragging the hose, so installing a spigot up there is a must. Any ideas?
I visit Jo's garden in August every year, and her color, even at that time of year is just wonderful...hoping to get there in June this year, but waiting to see how my brother's health is holding up.....so lucky, Jumper, that you have a greenhouse....
Thanks Marilyn. June should be lilies.
Nice, Jumper. More like a coldframe, though, than a greenhouse, since it isn't heated? You could do wintersowing in it. I'd love to have one.
Karen
BTW, how much does one of those run?
Karen
You're welcome here too Robin!
Your neighborhood is too dangerous, Deb, with all those meteorites...
Heehee
Karen, just picked one up @ Walmart for 49-59$
