The Northern Flicker, a male near the suet feeder. But it has chosen the berries instead of the suet.

Hot pepper doesn't bother the birds. We use that type. squirrels won't touch it.

I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving. I appreciate the help you all have given the time I've been here. Though I do not comment on all the bird photos, I enjoy them all.

I was reminded this morning that yes, indeed we do have four-legged critters here. We so rarely see them. I suspect a raccoon. Yesterday, we put a couple nails in the tree trunk to hang up a suet feeder and a PB lid. The suet was left alone, but I found the lid on the ground this morning. It was totally licked clean. OK, we'll bring that in at night. I am thinking of the -2F windchill we're going to have in a couple mornings. Not sure I want to go in that, but if for the birds.... Brrr....

We went to a park yesterday that has a bird blind and a lot of feeders. We do not have a lot of trees, so won't see Chickadees or Titmice. I had quite a time getting a picture of one of these. They are just so full of energy. See the feet of another bird on the pole? I didn't realize that until I cropped this picture.

Burn, love that gorgeous parula warbler and the crow.

Lily, great shot of your flicker. My flickers have never come near the suet cakes.

Chilly, cute little titmouse.

Here's another female House Finch.

We're seeing a few Black Phoebes. It's interesting to note that we can always find them in the same spots in our neighborhood.

Our Sharp-shinned Hawk spent the afternoon around our garden and when I walked up close, it totally ignored me.

At least it didn't seem hungry. I did enjoy watching it preen as I snapped pictures not ten feet away.

It is okay to put meat scraps on my platform feeder? I have leftover turkey scraps and hard pieces of ham. I do not want to start attracting raccoons, I have a tin pie pan so the grease won't get on the platform feeder. A friend lent me a book from National Audubon Society that tells about North American Birds, there is a lot of birds there that I don't see at the feeders. The male and female rb wp are back and so is the Chickadees and the Tufted Titmouse, and I am still determined to get a good picture of the Pileated Woodpecker.

Teddy, It's best not to put meat scraps out as it might draw rats etc. in.

Duc, Love that shot of the Sharpie! That is great he is letting you get so close.

Sweet Titmouse Chillybean!

Hi everyone. I have not been using my computer very much. I have had 3 major surgeries so far this year. had a complete revision of left hip joint in March, Then emergency appendectomy the end of july. Doctor then decided after viewing Xrays that a complete revision of right hip joint was necessary. So had that done Oct. 24, am at last back home. The Doctor that my son finally located to do the hip surgeries is located 7 hours from here on west side of the mountainss, so makes lots of traveling. The doctor doesn't want me to drive for another 2 weeks so I have to depend on someone else. Anyway I am recovering quite well and hope to be able to take some bird photos in the near future.

I have managed to put feed out for the birds a couple of times, that is for the feeders that are hung at edge of deck.

So as you can imagine I do appreciate all of you taking the time to take pictures of birds and send them along. We did receive 6 inches of snow last week, then turned to rain and melted all the snow. Today is a lovely sunny bright day,

Donna...so good to see you back. My goodness this has been a tough year for you but now you have great new hips and on the road to recovery. I am so glad that you have
some feeders on your deck and are able to view your birds. Best of luck on your recovery and looking forward to seeing your pictures too!
