DAILY BIRD PICS VOL # 421

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

It's been three (3) months since my last post so it's good to get back to posting a few photos. Unfortunately, a death in the family precluded me from getting out in the field. I'm sure those who have been involved with estate issues know how time consuming it can be. But anyway, it is time to start a new thread and I am privileged to start it. And, for those who wish to go back to the previous Vol. #420, here is the link: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1229571/

The only places I have been this Fall, is the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and the Conowingo Dam, primarily to photograph the Bald Eagle. So, I will start off the new thread with a series of Bald Eagle photos taken at Blackwater. The opportunities are rather limited at Blackwater in comparison to Conowingo, but I did get a few keeper photos.

Photo #2. Blackwater is making some major renovations to their Visitor Center. Part of the wildlife drive was also closed most of the summer months while they were making repairs. Other than a few Bald Eagles, wildlife was minimal on my visit.

Photo #3. With colder weather arriving, it should drive some of the Bald Eagles farther south so I would expect the numbers to increase.
I will be getting up at 5:30 a.m. in the morning to go to Conowingo so that is why I started this thread a little early.

Photo #4. With the Osprey gone until Spring, the Bald Eagles often use this platform to stop and rest. This is the same platform that is seen on the Blackwater Osprey web camera. It is situated along the wildlife drive and reachable with a 500mm lens.

Photo #5. A pair of lovebirds ! They are starting to pair up. The pair that are seen on the Eagle cam at Blackwater start laying eggs around January 19. These were also taken along the wildlife drive but a little distant from the roadway.

I really enjoy the eagles, linth. Wish I had a place I could count on seeing eagles. There are some that winter here, but they are few and far between.

So good to see you back, Charlie. Wonderful eagle photos and I look forward to more. I love their big, feathery pants.

Gosh, Burn, you've got a couple of little beauties there with your Kinglet and Warbler.

Good capture, Kim.

Good pics, Duc. Burn, that is a great shot of the kinglet. Difficult to see that ruby crest, much less get a pic.

This may look like he is either taking off or landing, but actually he is trying to keep his balance against a wind gust that eventually blew him off. Otherwise the weather today was quite nice.

Great capture on the conures. And I always enjoy bluebirds. Daddy has been busy this morning. Lots of birds in the yard and he has to be sure he has his house staked out.
