And who couldn't love this little drama queen, Pink Cream, from no other than Buggycrazy? I hope I always have this one in my garden. She is just so photogenic and I wait impatiently each year for her to return.

Thank you for the preview! I ordered August Ruby from you. It looked completely unique, and I can't wait for it to bloom.

I was sitting here coveting August Ruby - who has that one for sale? I would love to order for myself as well.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Faraway Flowers is sold by dear Ramona (Maniac above). Here is the link:

http://www.farawayflowers.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=august+ruby&osCsid=1d74800e8b4b54aea24f139ddd425301&x=0&y=0

She describes it as a late blooming Asiatic - early August, as the name indicates. There is a notation that it is rarely seen for sale anymore. I always grab those if I love them. And only $5.00!

I was getting very pastel so I started adding reds like Red Alert, Hiawatha, and when I saw August Ruby I thought it quite perfect. I see lilies on her site that are very different from those seen elsewhere. Her GW reviews are excellent! I think it's a lovely thing.

Oh Donna!

Thank you!. I did not know Mainiac was Faraway Flowers.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

I just found out about a year ago. Isn't she fabulous? She maintains a low profile, and you don't know because she does not tell the world. And she is such a pleasure to do business with! And she has varieties that I have never see. And "new" does not mean $25.00!

She's in my top three - Faraway Flowers, B&D and The Lily Garden.

Jack and I have had the pleasure of meeting Ramona three times and we toured her Cape Elizabeth gardens one July. She is a lovely person as well as a great lily dealer and eager to please.

One more thing about Ramona - her photos are true to color. That's of ultra importance to me and I value it.

Has anyone grown Bonbini? I attended out annual Botanical Garden workshop and one of the vendors who sells lily bulbs was saying that it probably wouldn't come back up here and if it did it wouldn't bloom. Said only LA's were dependible. Which I know isn't true as I have all kinds of asiatics, orientals, trumpets, orienpets, etc. Hm. Maybe orienpets ARE LA's. I get confused (easily).

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, I have had Bonbini for a few years and love it.

LA's are a cross between longiflorum and Asiatic.
LO's are a cross between longiflorum and Oriental.
OP's (Orienpets) are a cross between Oriental and trumpets.

The late Chocolatemoose grew lilies in Alaska so you may want to search Plant Files and see if she had Bonbini.

I found it. One of her remarks reminded me that she might have better luck with lilies than I do. Fairbanks gets way warmer in the summer than we do. Both extremes -- colder in winter and hotter in summer and much dryer. I didn't realize that she had to dig up some of her lilies. I think all of mine survive just fine, but we never see -25 and lower like she did. Surely do wish she was still with us. I would have driven out to North Pole to visit her when in Fairbanks visiting my MIL.

Orientals are my favorite, and Stargazer or Rubrum is my favorite oriental. The little spots on the petals are actually beautiful, raised, soft hairs that give it indescribable depth.

A cross between Oriental and trumpets is an OT.

OP in lilium circles means "Open Pollinated". :-)

Fernman I have both. I agree about both and Sorbonne ROCKS!

I love Garden Party (oriental) and Golden Stargazer.

One I've always wanted that isn't available wholesale or retail any longer is the oriental lily Journey's End. I saw a photo of it in a catalog years ago (I was a teenager and I'm 44 now) and wasn't into gardening then. Now, I would love to have even one bulb of that one:)
