This red salvia is different than the NOID. Josephine...could this be Raging Cajun? It is close to where I had planted that one, but I thought it died a couple years ago.
November Blooms 2011
Sheila, I love the pink turk's cap. I've not seen that before - saw a salmon one and purchased a white this year.

Thanks for the well wishes for DH everyone. He had a good day today.
Stephanie.....Yes to getting good bacteria products in him. His eyes just today look really improved. I am loving your purple cuphea! Hope it thrives for you, so you can share at RU one day.
DrThor....I like the zinnia bed full of Monarchs lately I bet. And 'hot cocoa' coneflower is gorgeous!
Anna.....The 'fireworks' seems to dull and not really brown, then droop down. I bet they will be in mass reseeder.....look for it next year. I have took off some of the duller heads and tossed them in other areas. Love the height of it since most of my other plants are giants too!
Thanks Kay! I like it as well as the red, but the hummers don't seem to go for it as much. Another thing, I rarely see seed pods on it.
BTW...I was born in Atlanta TX, just 13 miles East of you, so I know where Linden is! LOL!
Small world. I am actually from Douglassville and went to school a couple of years in Atlanta.
Sending you a dmail....more questions!
Sheila, I have seeds from the cuphea and can share those if you'd like. I need to plant this where it gets more grow room as it can get a very nice size, but still not humongous. The pic you tagged as May Night isn't. May Night Salvia is shorter and has very dark purple blooms. You can see one on the very left of this pic, almost looks dark blue.
Is your tall red salvia possibly Mountain Red? I got one from someone at RU in the spring and the blooms on it are big and about the same color.
Sheila, I am not sure of which the red salvia is but I know it is not Mountain sage, Salvia regla, the blooms on that one are very different.
Oh well they are both making me happy right now whatever the names are! LOL! I need to dig around their base, I may have buried the labels to keep the dog from snatching them.
Make it a great day everyone! I hope to tag my last Monarch today...that will give me a total of 50 to submit info on!
I am planning to cover my plants tonight, a frost is predicted.
I sent you an email.
I brought a few Red Mountain Sage (Salvia darcyi) to the Spring round up. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/306452/ , not to be confused with Mountain Sage (Salvia regla) http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/60119/#b , which I've also got and plan to propagate -- assuming it doesn't get frozen tonight. This cold snap caught me off guard -- don't have the greenhouses covered yet. You should see the inside of my house tonight! Plants everywhere!

Covered a pile of pots and hanging baskets set in a group on the deck last night. Also ran the sprinkler since it was my day. Temp only got down to 35 here and we are in a slight valley which helps.
I need to take a picture of the foilage of the plants in question also.
35 here too, I still have a lot to prepare for winter, I hate winter!!!
ditto my friend. To start with I have to clean out the shop to make room for stuff. I should have done it a little each day last month but just not in that mind set. I also have several things that I want to dig up and pot so they will be ready to set out in a different area next year, and so I don't loose them if our winter is hard.
Sigh... it hardly seems fair to be dragging the hose around to water AND covering for winter. We didn't quite get frost here, but yeah, big potting up weekend planned.
Looks great...nice to have a reblooming DL.
I see you have the Jerusalem Sage in the pic with your zinnias, I love that plant. I have managed to root a few starts, but have decided to move my plant this year. Not sure when the best time would be, but I cut it back last year to see if it would take that and it did fine. I may try to do root divisions and not move the whole plant. It just doesn't get enough sun where it is and can't be seen well either. I do love it, wish it was native.
I agree, it is a beauty. It looks like it should be native. Can we adopt it? 8) When you cut it back, did you protect it?
Drthor, what kind of zinnias are those?
Looks great!
Great pics, Stephanie. Makes me wish I was at home instead of stuck at work!!
Carla
No, no protection. I cut it back to see if it would grow again from the stems and it did. It is about 4 foot tall and wide and I would need to cut it back to move it. Now that I know it will survive the cutting, I will move it in the spring. I think I will try rooting some more before that also. I need it in a more sunny area.
