CLOSED: friend near yosemite is trying to identify these

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 4b)

my friend lives near yosemite, at around 400' elevation

he's got several of these, and can't find out what they are

i told him not to worry, as it is not dangerous, but i'm wondering what they are

edit-

he says they're fast, close to the ground, when the get riled.
about the size of a silver dollar hanging in their webs.
and that the webs seem somewhat irregular, and quite large, "the longest I've seen has been 35 feet long and about 7 feet high spun from tree to tree!"

these should be pretty good clues for flap or kwan

Are you absolutely certain of the details provided? The 'face' of this spider appears closer to that of a wandering spider - http://bugguide.net/node/view/527972/bgimage - than an orb weaver - http://bugguide.net/node/view/70374

thanx flap, ... he said their webs are not orb type, rother, they are cobweb/random type

and now, i'm getting that may be a stock photo he found, that he thinks most resembles his spiders,
rather than his own photograph of his spiders

i'm trying to pin him down on that point

I missed this one somehow. I agree with FD as to the description. Let us know what your friend says. I know every once in awhile, large webs are found but those are different spiders.

ok, ... sorry you guys, ... that's a stock photo he thought would help, he's admitted.

i gave him the business, and scolded him that it hurt more than helped

sorry about the wild goose chase.
if he follows up with an actual picture or specimen, and photo of the webs, i'll start a new thread

Please, do. ^_^
