All right, you guys are making me jealous. But we do still have some color up here. Here's my Salvia Wendy's wish (soon to come indoors) and my Achillea Pomegranate still blooming.
October Blooms
Very nice Nancy!!
October is such a fine month! Drthor,I see the zinnias really pack color power. Thanks for naming the Cassie. I need to make a file somewhere of wish list plants. Stephanie, I also love the licorice smell of MMM. nancyruhl, that is a very pretty salvia "wendy" . I wonder if it is hardy here. Anyone have it?
I mispoke, it is called Salvia Wendy's Wish. It is rated as a zone 9 plant. It was beautiful all summer and since it is sterile, it bloomed and bloomed. I brought mine in yesterday for overwintering.
Beautiful combination, Josephine!
Thank you Stephanie.
That's such a cute idea for a pumpkin patch. Did you just move the sweet potato vine there for the pumpkin patch or was it growing there?
Your front yard is very beautiful. Are those knockout roses growing there. What a versatile rose that is. Blooms all winter when we go to Florida and doesn't seem to mind the humidity at all. Some good breeding in that variety.
drthur that is so cool the way you used the potato vines with the pumpkins!!
Thanks yall
nancyruhl the POTATO VINE was growing there all summer long. It is very hardy under 100 degrees weather and for sure beautiful.
I actually have some came back from last year (they even survived the 4 days record freeze we had in february). So this year I will not pull the potato root away.
Knock out roses are fantastic. They belong to the "Earthkind" selection of amazing roses. Almost all my roses belong to that category ... apart some antique ones that I must have. Read about Earthkind here:

and order them from Chamblee roses:

I'm surprised your sweet potato vine survived a frost. Up here, it is the first plant to get ratty looking, well before a frost. It's great that yours came back. I saved the tubers last year, but could get them to resprout.
I suspect you have less problem with black spot on your roses and we have up here in humid Michigan. Knock outs and Home Run don't seem to have those problems up here. I'm not good about spraying every 10 days and after a rain, so my roses were pretty terrible. I pulled out my rose garden this year, figuring it was a lost cause. The only rose I saved was Abraham Darby. Couldn't part with him.
nancyruhl read about Earth Kind roses and you will be forgetting about spraying chemicals and black spots.
Those are roses studied for years that have no problem with black spots and diseases. No need to dead head them or trim. Just leave tehm alone and enjoy their blooms.
I have all teh varieties of Earth Kind roses and if I ever move away from my house ... those are the only roses I'd plant again and again ...
Chamblee's has a nice selection and their prices seem very reasonable. Too bad I took out the rose garden and don't live in zone 7 or higher.
That is lovely Anna.
Moving to November........
