Lovely :)
October Blooms
You are doing great Stephanie.
That lantana is HUGE! Love the monarchs on the tithonia, too. I might try to grow some of that next year.
Yeah, Lantana loves the gumbo clay soil. :-)
Carla
Carla - Love the Aster oblongifolius......is it an annual?
Carla I love the monarch pic.
Morganc, this Aster is a very hardy perennial.
Carla
Carla, is that October Skies aster?
Welcome back, dr!! I've missed your pretty pictures.
Maybe you guys can help me. I made my first trip to Texas last week, and there was a lovely shrub blooming. It had yellow flowers that were arranged in a long spike at the end of the branches. The seed pod was triangular. I should have taken a picture. I am having trouble finding out the name.
BTW, I enjoyed all the lovely flowers and plantings that I saw. While I visisted several gardens, I have to say the San Antonio Botanical gardens were outstanding. I have an interest in xeriscaping but limited possiblities up here in Michigan. I envy all your marvelous sages, one of my faves.
I wonder if what you saw was Esperanza?
I agree with Steph sounds like Esperanza to me too. See if this is it or similar http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/ornamentals/nativeshrubs/tecomastans.htm
I don't think that was it. The flowers formed what I would call a candle. Like the shrimp plant flowers on steroids and in bright yellow. It was a large shrub. The seeds were in a pod and I mispoke. The pods were rectangular.
I did see a lot of Esperanza, though, and it is lovely.
Thanks for your quick responses. Nancy
It is probably Candle Bush, very pretty; http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/371/
Josephine
Frostweed, that's it. Thanks so much. I would have spent forever trying to figure it out. Nancy
You are welcome Nancy.
Stephanie, your flowerbed looks like a haven for the bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
