Redbellied Woodpecker, I saw the male at the feeder off and on all day calling, calling. But his Missus never showed up, nor the Juvies, they must have all grown up and fledged the coop.
DAILY BIRD PICS VOL #415
I also saw a Red-eyed vireo. But the pix was not as clear, so that's it for tonite. Happy birding everyone.
how can you tell the difference between a hummer that is pregnant or one that is fattening up for the migration? The last one I took a picture of it could be either way, let me know please.
I wished I knew, teddy. Maybe an ultrasound? Just kidding. I gather it may not be a breeding season? As most birds nest in the spring? dunno.
Hi Teddy, They do not get pregnant during migration time.
They migrate up in Spring, find a territory then get pregnant. After the kids are on their own and late summer or fall begins they migrate south again.
Hi all: Have enjoyed going all the way down this thread and seeing all the wonderful pictures. Margaret, the kookaburras are so cute, the way they sit on the branch with their little bellies resting.
Wanted to see if anyone had a picture of my new bird. It has just shown up at my feeder in the last few days. I've had titmice, cardinals, blue jays, red-bellied woodpeckers, Carolina wrens and lots of sparrows not to mention my marauding squirrel at the feeder all summer, but have never seen the likes of this little guy. ID anyone?
Guess the cold weather's arrived up north, huh? Birds have the right idea to migrate.

Great pics dyzzy!! I was thinking Blackburnian Warbler. Lets see what Resin says.
What a wonderful thread this has been. Such variety. My birds seem so plain by comparison. I wanted to mention a few of your names, but realized I'd have to include almost everyone of you.
I've been very busy lately with travel and then we just changed over from cable to Verizon FIOS, and had to create a new wireless network. Not easy for an old man like me but I think it is up and working at last. Maybe now I can get back to the important stuff.
I think dyzzy may have a Yellow-throated Warbler...but like Pelle said wait for Resin to weigh in! Great shot no matter what and I wish one would show up at my feeder!!
That looks like the right one, nanny. Thanks, pelle! The Blackburnian warbler was definitely more orange and the color more widespread over the face.
Any chance I will hear him 'warble' or do they only do that in mating season? Mind you, I have no shortage of singing birds around here now. I've decided the Carolina wrens are partial to designer shoes 'jimmy choo, jimmy choo'.
This guy seems to like my garden. He's been around for about 3 days now. I hope he doesn't disappear to Venezuela for the winter . . .
I have been elected to start the next thread and as it would happen, I need to run an errand that will keep me out for several hours, so I will end this one and start the next one a little early.
Be back with the link in a minute. Well a little longer than a minute: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1223689/
