Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Cheapest price here for a litre is anbout 6.20 FIM - about 0.95 $. 1 US gallon = 4.5 litres. So your high price for gallon, 2.49 $ : 4.5 litres = 0.55 $ = 3.60 FIM, so you have cheap gas there!!!

20 g letter or postcard abroad costs 3.60 FIM here :)

Well in America they do not have any free health service as we do and also we have a high social security system towards them, so we have to pay somehow for this. Even though i am working and so is hubby because i am a diabetic everything is free for me my medicine, my blood testers etc.

southeast, NE

I paid 1.24 this afternoon for the ethanol blend. And is this a sore subject between dh (and d doesn't stand for deer in this case) He became paranoid that there would be a gas shortage. He drives a diesel truck to work and so he ordered a fuel tank full of diesel fuel at $1.67 per gallon (now down to $1.37). Grrrrrr!

Sheila

The Americans wouldn't put up with stealth taxation like we do. We have a duel tax on fuel, duty and Value Added Tax and it runs at around 70-85% of the fuel price in total.

$1.17 - sunny and high 60's during the day, 32-38 at night - brrrrrrrrr

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

so we pay $6 a gallon but the guys in the US whinge about paying $1.

C'mon people catch a grip!!!!

LOL, Mark! They complain about their taxes, too. Danes pay 40 to 60% taxes. It's all relative, I guess.

Please, I'm not trying to be mean to Americans. I grew up there and complained when gas prices went over a dollar and I had to pay my taxes. I've just seen how much worse it can be. :-)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

mark, and yes, UK gallon is 4½ litres, US gallon - 3,75 l.

6.45 FIM today in southern Espoo.

Longview, TX

Yesterday I filled up for 1.50 a gallon....supreme....which is too high!

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

Gas has dropped to $1.04 a gallon, but some places are still charging $1.08 and up.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I don't know how to put the prices in perspective. For instance, how much do people generally make per hour where you live? Denmark, Northern Ireland, Finland, UK, etc. That would help with perspective as far as what percentage of wages are spent for gasoline.

Gardenwife, that's a good question and one that almost stumped my husband. He did a quick guess-timate of the average danish income. After taxes, the average danish person has 14,000 to 15,000 dollars per year. Health care is paid for by taxes but people can buy extra insurance. If anyone wants to hear more about that, feel free to e-mail me.

It might help to also explain the taxes on a car here:
"Buy one car, pay for three!" Taxes are astronomical on cars in Denmark. Out of a person's monthly income, roughly 15% goes to the car (including gas, insurance, etc.). Another thing that might help is to explain that gas is bought by the liter here, approximately one fourth of a gallon. You can basically say that what you pay for one gallon in America, we would pay four times that per one gallon (or 4 liters).

I hope that helps. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.
