I have to say, Old House Gardens mailed me just about the biggest hunk of peony root I have ever gotten, the heirloom Humei. I love the vitality and fragrance of the heirloom kind. Inspired, I bought three more Japanese blush and white peonies and another heirloom popular in France, Noemie Demay, AKA Pecher (I assume the translation is peach colored, vs. "to fish") at the end of season sale in the Hidden GardensFlower Farm catalog. That just about fills the new peony beds.
Spending spree #8
That's great Rosemary
Will love to see photos of them when they are blooming!
Sounds nice Rosemary!
Thanks. Keeping fingers crossed that there will be blooms, and that last years weren't a freak of nature, either.
picked up another weston azalea yesterday - a white one, very fragrant called innocence.
Are they the ones that get fall color??
yes - as well as later blooming late june through July
Nice!
Cool. That's the only way I would buy azalea now. Ten-day show is just not enough for me.
I need winter hardiness......
I like that in a woman, but my wife is always cold!
Your wife needs a FL vacation this winter! I planted lilies today....Seafarer, White Butterflies, Yellow Whoppers, & Last Dance.
Just ordered shallots for (I hope) Fall planting.
I ordered some bulbs from Scheepers. Scilla and narcissus for a mass planting under my weeping beech near the house.
I'd love to have Azaleas blooming into July!!
Your peony bed will be gorgeous, Rosemary. Can't wait to see photos!
Let me know how the shallots fare, Memory. Victor, just went past Scheepers yesterday...the parking lot was full, so I'm guessing fall sales are good.
Hi
I was wondering if any of you folks might shop at this little nusery in Gansevoort, New York called Oligny's Country Gardens? They have some great sedums. I was going to call and see if she will send. I'm obsessd with getting Sedum 'Diamond Edge'.
I'm from Wahington State and usually hang in the PNW forum and a few others.
Hi, spring color
Glad to see you here! Hopeyou get your answer.
I so enjoyed meeting you at Sharon's earlier this year.
Hi Jan
Yes, that was so fun. I forgot about you being here. I'm so use to being on the PNW forum and seeing you there. I didn't make it to the last one but next time.
Have not heard of that nursery...hope you get your sedum!
brecks is having a bulb sales - up to 80% off
ordered a bunch of daff's, bluebells, snowdrops, and some allium
have not ordered as many bulbs this year as in the past
I planted 2 varieties of tulips, alliums, dwarf iris, & crocus......I'm done....
Waiting for it to get colder to plant my bulbs. I usually plant them in Nov
Klemn's Songsparrow is offering free shipping on herbacious peonies.
Oh, dear....cannot even look at their site....
Hello Spring Color! Nice to have you join us!
The spree is just about to begin here. I've decided to eliminate the jungle for future arrivals, so we're pulling out some of the bougainvilleas - some now and some before we leave in the spring - and today we dug out all the Mexican petunias. Now that I have a blank slate in a couple gardens, it is imperative that I go on a shopping spree, right??????
I'm afraid I didn't get my peonies trimmed back before we had to leave. I was sick and then Hank got a cold the day before we left, so the close-up was not as complete as before. Oh well. We're here now, and 3 trays of plants came down with us!
How neat to be able to do year-round gardening!
Yes, but my carpal tunnel isn't happy. I am going to have to slow down here to keep from having to do without both hands again as I had to do for a bit this summer. Not fun, and very frustrating when you look out and see a ton of things you want and need to do in the gardens.
Happy shopping Louise!
I only planted a few species tulips and crocus this year.
It is still a pretty jungle.
I thinned a lot of my garden too, just have to accept that I have a small yard.
Thanks, Debi....but it's almost all gone now. I'll show you the bare bones and blank slate soon. :)
good to see you guys made it safe and sound louise
Not used to machete gardening up here, but I remember trying to find a Jacaranda and such in the jungle when my parents lived in Fla. Are you far from Shelby Gardens, Louise?
I liked the jungle, Louise, but I know your new gardens will be beautiful! It's amazing how fast plants grow in FL.....I shoveled river rocks into all my beds...that seemed to keep them somewhat under control.....
Thanks, Bill! We'll miss seeing you and Cindy for awhile! Unless, of course, you come down for Spring Training!
Rosemary - We are about an hour and a half from Shelby Gardens. Will make it a day trip this winter for sure!
Good idea, Marilyn! I have river rocks around the foundation of our sunroom and around my patio pots of veggies, but those are to keep the snakes away since the river rocks are too sharp for them to crawl over. I spent a couple hours pulling weeds out of my pea stone areas.
I talked to our yard guys, and they will take on the job next summer of keeping the natives under control. I just can't come back to such a mess anymore!! So sad though - our yard guys are father & son, and they've become friends of ours over the 15 years they've done our lawn. The son's fiance has brain cancer at 21 and is in pretty bad shape. Just so sad!
That is sad. 21 is too young.
Have fun at your new place. Looking for plants is the best!
Very sad
