Blackshear, GA

Love the pictures!! Rita. LOVE the orchid.
MJ, is that seed pods on the tacca? Beautiful!!

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Kay your native in the pic above the snail vine is Spotted Horsemint. Monarda punctata , one of my favorites to. not only pretty, it takes care of itself !!
I wish my pitcher plant looked as good as yours.....keeps getting rusty brown spots on it.

Paula, no seed pods yet. the larger "petal' looking part of the bloom are really "bracts" the actually flower ( the little things that look like "Bat faces" begin to turn down, the "whiskers" are where the pollen is, eventually the buds curl all the way down to the whiskers to get to the pollen.

Thanks for the name, Martha - it grows wild up by the airport.

MJ, that Tacca is way cool, Alice, the brugs are yummy aren't they?, andKayJones, LOVE the firespike, can't wait for mine from Rita to bloom, maybe next year?

Love the yellow vining daisey and the monardas, course you know natives and I get along really well, KayJones. I think your garden is fantastic, love the lantanas. Brugs should be fine, outside until hard freeze, cover up or bring inside before that. Oh Heck, you guys know what to do.. LOL

I think I would never want to come inside if I was in any of your Gardens..

Deb, Amaranthus is another plant I simply cannot grow!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Rita, I was so excited about one of my flowers the other day I forgot to say how happy I am to see you back and in such good spirits in spite of the horrendous weather you endured along with the loss of your good friend. I think being involved gardening provides one with much resiliency.

Blue Chip is doing well this year.

Rita, happy birthday! I will be happy to nurture some little 'Dauben' water lilies for you until next spring. They are very small now, but by then will have nice little tubers. I read in Plant Files that they reclassified 'Hilo Beauty' as a caladium, not an alocasia! Quiet a leap? But makes sense to me given the shape and texture of the leaves.

Drew, aka Aquaman! Is your head still above water? Your leaf damage looks a bit like fert burn to me - could all that rain have given the plant a large dose over a short period? If you had any granular fert in the pot I've had that happen - even 'timed release' pellets can release too much at once if it's very warm and there is a downpour. Is it a new'ish plant? Maybe there was pelleted fert in there from the nursery and it all gave up at once? Plus the white areas of the leaves are more susceptible to any sort of burn, I think. In that last photo all the burnt edges are on the very lightest areas of the leaf. The other photo, there is a little bit on the light green, but again the big burn is on the creamy area.

You've had a quick cool down, a ton of rain, plus the days are shorter and the sun/light is less intense. My advice is to try very dilute fert and see if the new leaves stay nice. You said you use liquid - Miracle Gro? - so you can control it, right?

Kay, your garden shots are wonderful! I love the scent of the foliage on those monardas. Aren't they related to bergamot, the herb that gives Earl Grey tea it's flavor?

About all I got blooming are brugs (sigh, it's a tough life . . ).

And brugs . . here's the old pink noid with over 30 flowers on it.

And brugs . . this is my 'Cherub' from Debra this spring. It is so tall I have to hold the camera at arm's length over my head to get a good shot of the flowers. It also has a new shoot from the base that is shoulder-high but not blooming yet.

And more brugs - Debra's Monster White getting ready to open flowers tonight. This is it's 4th pot - a 16in. and it's already outgrown it, too. Question for you Brug Masters - how come some plants grow straight up like Cherub and CG, then Y and bloom, but others make a lovely shrub shape like this one?

All of your brugs will grow from the root system if there are growth nodes, Elaine. I am not an expert, but from watching mine, all of them seem to want to be a "shrub" .. mine look like standards ( trees) cuz I pull the base growth off and trim the growth off the trunks. ( I am mean) Cherub was a multi branched Shrub last year from a root ball... Monster white was a two branched monster, and now I have Kaitlyn who keeps sending up a stalk which promptly gets removed. I think they would all be shrubs if given a chance.. Really Beautiful Shrubs , tho.. LOL

How could I forget Rita's Birthday when it is the same as Joes? Happy Birthday Rita!

Love the Blue chip, what kind of shrub is that?
Drew, I have some of that leaf burn on a couple of my EE's. so I am learning here..

Happy birthday Rita, how does it feel to be 39? ;-0.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

We just had 3 1/2" of rain in a half hour. Problem was that it came at full high, 7' tide. Major flooding around here, the stormwater had nowhere to go.

Hello Everyone!!
What a super day! Thanks for all the birthday wishes, I now have a permanent smile on my face. You'all are the greatest!!!

mjsponies, thanks, the Kool variegated plant is a new variegated Plumeria 'Silver leaf '. I am jealous of your Tacca bloom, my buds withered up and fell off. I must have petted them one too many times. lol

KayJones, it was a pleasure viewing your pictures! I am hoping to see more of your garden treasures.

GAgirl1066, thanks, I took about a dozen shots of the orchid before I got a good one.

ardesia, thank you very much, I do find gardening to be great therapy.
Blue chip is a new, interesting plant, I will have to look it up. Its a Beauty.

homer1958, my monstera looks exactly like yours, I thought it was sun scald.

dyzzy, thanks for the update on Hilo Beauty, hopefully I will remember and impress someone. lol It is getting hard for me to keep up with all the name changes.
I just love all those Brugs you posted. Most of my bigger plants are just now putting out foliage after a battle with bugs and a overdose of BATS.
A Super Nova is in a pot with buds so maybe next week I will have one to show.

RachelLF, It is nice to see you! You owe me a picture of your favorite Philo. for my birthday. lol

Joeswife, please wish Joe a very Happy Birthday from me.

James, The Brug that you sent me, is doing great, maybe next year I will have flowers to show. That is a nice color on Karoline.
