They're too raggedy to take a good picture, but I had a couple of prairie asters open Sept 1. Apparently in their minds it's fall, time to bloom, 103F or not. I guess the shorter days are their trigger?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Larry, that is so pretty, the ones you sent me bloomed to and they are so pretty, I love them. Thank you for sending them to me.
The morning glory is very nice too.
Josephine.

Very nice Stephanie!!

The hurricane lilies have started blooming! The pinks always show up before the reds for me.

Larry, I have discovered that the vine you sent me is called Twine Vine, Funastrum cynanchoides ssp. cynanchoides
still of the milkweed family, what tipped me off were the flowers, which are really pretty just like milkweeds.

Isn't that interesting?
Josephine.

Josephine twine vine is a more descriptive name than honey vine. I guess you can add one more to your native plant count.

Here is a flower of seeds you received this spring. It is one of those what's her name plants.

Flowers in the spring and sporadic thru the summer. Gets 3+ feet tall when wet in the spring.

Foliage of flower. Hot summer.

I have seen hummers feeding on the flowers.

Larry, that is a Pincushion flower, very pretty but unfortunately not a native, thank you for thinking of me.
Josephine.

Just proud to have anything blooming right now. So thankful the heat let up when it did.

This little 'fireworks' gomphrena is loving the sun.

I think this crepe myrtle was 'dynamite', not sure though.

The coral nymph salvia just can't be stopped! I love it's dainty bloom.

This was taken during the 100 plus temp period. This Rock Rose was really a trouper, blooming and then wilting late in the afternoon sun.

Last one, can't remember the name but it is a native red salvia. It is just beginning to bloom this last week.

All very lovely. The red salvia is Salvia coccinea, Scarlet Sage.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Jo. All I could remember at the moment was the "coc".

Very pretty blooms Sheila and Grits!!

You too Stephanie. I have some Red Hurricane Lilies in the backyard that are blooming. Wish that was a rain indicator for sure!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Unfortunately, it's just an indicator of September.

I also bought that "firework" gomphrena, planted it back in June, and have been very happy with it. I wonder if it goes to seed. I couldn't remember it's name ...I was nicknaming it "fireworks "

Shrimp plant and red gomphrena. These bloomed in the summer heat too

Desert Willow Tree bloom...had no problem this summer. When do you know the seeds are ready?

Thumbnail by bananna18
Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

The seeds are ready when the pods are dry.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Hmmm....I have something that looks like that pink gomphrena growing in my flowerbed, but it's not bloomed. Wonder if I have the weed version! LOL

I am a certified Crape Myrtle freak. I am red/green color blind but this is a very pretty color to me whatever the color is. None of my Crapes that I have had for 15 years has this color. This is one of my not yet named miniatures I have grown from seeds of my Crapes.

Very pretty purple Larry.

Here is another one of my 12 inch miniatures blooming. I am not sure what color the bloom is but after a day or two the blooms fade to white. White is one color that I have memorized.
