terrible stuff all over
Hurricane Irene Pt2
Lou i've been praying for rain for you all down in Texas, and least enough to put out those fires!! My heart and prayers go out to all of you.
Nate seems to be in the area of the Yucatan.
For those of you who don't really have a good idea of how bad it is in Texas, here's some photos. It really puts it in to perspective after viewing them. Godspeed to all!

Extraordinary! It takes pictures like this to make the news stories real. I am praying they get rain as well as federal relief.
pixie, I had not seen those pictures. My heart is broken for all those that have lost everything to the fires and the floods. For the first time in my life I feel uneasy as these fires are in neighborhoods just like mine.
God in Heaven, rain down your mercy.
Pictures really do say a thousand words, I've been praying for rain for Texas, and I'll continue to pray for TX.
Jan
I've not forgotten the ongoing tragedy of floods from Irene. Still praying for all of you and the monster cleanup ahead.
How heartbreaking....praying for the folks in Texas......
Oh, wow. My step-son just moved with his young family to Dallas/Ft. Worth area. No idea if they are close.
There ought to be some system for draining away the overage of water we had here to reservoirs closer to the drought areas. I am sure the folks in Vermont would have been happy to share. It's an aspect of weather control that should be looked into if it isn't being done already.
Martha
Long article in the Dallas paper today concerning the possibility of building pipelines to carry excess water. According to them it is not doable. Doesn't generate enough income. Wait till "they" see how much groceries and meat products are going to cost and then tell me it is not doable.
we still have flooded areas.. would love to see that
My father always said that when they built the Alaska oil pipeline, they should have built a water one right next to it. Bring it right down the west coast.
That is brilliant. Of course, it takes politicians to accomplish such and we all know where that goes.
Unfortunately, water will be the major source of tension and wars by the end of the century.
And far more valuable than gas/oil as we are now finding out...
Christi ~ I saw a bumper sticker yesterday that said "politicians like diapers need to be changed for the same reason".
I have seen that, pod. How true.
Lol pod i agree!!!!
At least babies are otherwise adorable...
Double ditto!!!!
Now if we could all just remember that when it comes election time. I, for one, will vote FOR NO INCUMBENT. It is not supposed to be a lifetime job. Time we had someone in Washington that has worked for a living sometime in their lives.
I am a BIG believer in term limits. Age limits too!
ME TOO! I will soon be 70 and 65 should be the absolute oldest age you could even sit in congress. If you turn 65 during your term, you have to resign or not run. And God help us with the Supreme Court.
I am treading on dangerous territory. Will soon be censored, Sorry, Melody, Terry. I will behave.
My dear departed father in law always voted against the incumbent. Said at least the new guy would need some of his term to learn how to steal... lol
Term limits ~ yes! Age limits ~ don't know??? Term limits for the supreme court would be good too!
Ugh we have the oldest Senator, the guy is 87!!!!!!! Don't get me started!!!!!!!!
Is that all??? Thought he was about 98.
That one, Strom Thurmound, died. He was in the Senate from 1954 to 2003. According to Wikipedia "He conducted the longest filibuster ever by a lone senator, in opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1957, at 24 hours and 18 minutes in length, nonstop."
Ya Strom died leaving NJ's Frantk Lautenberg as the oldest...YAY for us...(insert sarcasm font here)
One last naughty. For the sake of all of us, DO NOT BE TAKEN IN BY RICK PERRY. He is beyond awful.
Wow how'd this thread get here? From storm to s#%@ storm. Lol
i can hardly stand to pay attention to Whats going on with the election, on both sides. What a circus.
Really Lou? Thanks for the heads up...send me details in dmail please....
At least the natural weather problems have cleared up. Well, sort of, still humid out there. At least one road in NH has been repaired.I hope other repairs can proceed quickly.
not trying to add wood to the fire, but we all agree on term limits so now why can't we get it passed, that would straighten up their acts....LOL
Pod I love your saying, very appropriate.
Jan
The people who would have to instate term limits are the very ones we have in DC now. They are not about to kill the golden calf.
Am right with you, Jen.
Think we can have a politics for gardeners thread? I'd love to hear the dirt Lou has on Rick Perry!
I'm already in danger. Policy of DG is no politics and I will soon be censored. Some days I just can't seem to help it.
LouC, all I have to say is that I heard one of his cohorts at his private gathering announce on TV that Katrina was created because the people of New Orleans were about to do some unbiblical thing, and it turned my stomach.
Carrie, I remember the blizzard of 78. State of CT was closed by the governor (Ella Grasso) for 3 days. During the Hurricane of 1955 (I was still young, mind you), we had just moved across town 6 months before and got about 2 feet of water in the basement. At our old house that had a river at the end of the yard, they had water up to the beds and were rescued by boats.
This is the old house. You cannot see them in this photo, but there were at least a half dozen steps to get to the porch. This picture was taken a few years before that.
The house no longer stands. Now there is a 4 unit condo. The river is still there.
marcia
Marcia, what a cute little girl you were! I had an outfit just like yours.
And I remember the blizzards, too. Blizzard of 78 changed the politics of Chicago because the City That Works didn't, and mayor Jane Byrne could never be re-elected after that. There was an earlier blizzard in about 1964 (?) that also brought the midwest to a standstill for a week. We cooked in our fireplace, and there was time to read Lord of the Rings from beginning to end.
