Carrie, I remember the blizzard of 78. State of CT was closed by the governor (Ella Grasso) for 3 days. During the Hurricane of 1955 (I was still young, mind you), we had just moved across town 6 months before and got about 2 feet of water in the basement. At our old house that had a river at the end of the yard, they had water up to the beds and were rescued by boats.

This is the old house. You cannot see them in this photo, but there were at least a half dozen steps to get to the porch. This picture was taken a few years before that.

The house no longer stands. Now there is a 4 unit condo. The river is still there.
