Daily butterfly pictures #90
jmorth nice shots, glad you are seeing more. The two mating Monarchs....what MW is that? I have one or two of those and they don't seem to get on them. Mine hasn't bloomed this year and I don't have a picture once when it did.
nanny...very nice shots glad you are seeing Monarchs especially!
Melanie...ur right on the GFs, they do well outside. I don't bring them in either anymore.

Found 2 large Monarch cats down on the milkweed so brought them home. There were eggs and I saw 1 small guy but am not gonna mess with them.
Yay! Bruce.
The first of my 5 BSTs gut purged this afternoon and is wandering. Good thing, I'm running out of Dill. I should have moved them to the parsley early on! I have an older BST chrysalid that is not eclosing. Seems too early to do the dormant thing.
Love that Question Mark, J. Bruce, she's a beauty!
To my local Dallas/Ft. Worth Davesgarden friends -- there will be an article in Thursday's gardening section of the Dallas Morning News about the shortage of butterflies this year in our area. Written by some guy that runs a butterfly farm....

LOL!!! Hmmmmm.....I wonder who it is??? Thanks for the heads up Dale! I will have to go buy a paper for that one. I am sure it will be available online for those out of town too.
It's late and I don't remember if I posted or not (old brain), but I have some first instart Gulf Frits!! Normally I don't get excited about them but I have missed their early action this year. I have them on the 'blue crown' and the scarlet passifloras for sure. I saw signs on the 'inscense' but don't find any cats. I am always seeing wasp there so they may be getting them.
Got my tags and I am ready for the Monarch's fall migration. Heck I am just ready for fall!
I look forward to reading the article Thursday!
Maybe "some guy" can link us to the article online!
Yes, many of us will be interested to read the mentioned article. :))
All:
Here's the link to the article in today's Dallas Morning News. http://www.dallasnews.com/lifestyles/home-and-gardening/headlines/20110824-where-are-the-swallowtails.ece?action=reregister

Bruce, she's a beauty! Dale I can't read the entire article unless I were a member. :((
I can't read it either....not a subscriber. That is a bummer.....off to buy a paper!
Great pic of the RSP Bruce!! Looks like it is unraveling the thread it the same color! LOL!
Nice pics Lily....you also have a big pollenating bee!
One of my Monarch cats has made its chrysalis today and #2 is busy looking for a spot. I found a 3rd one...it will probably be ready too in the day or two.
Great nanny!! Today I released the only Queen that made it from the batch. One from 14 not great odds but ok...at least I destroyed several 100s of the parasite by bringing the cats inside then destroying them when they slumped.
Awww, I was just out in the garden and didn't bring my glasses, saw an orange looking butterfly, but not sure it was a Gulf Frit. or a Monarch. So sad that the OEs affliction occurred both in Tx. and Ohio where Bruce is too? Hope things turn out well there in your nook Nan.
Darn...I didn't realize you had to subscribe to the paper to be able to read the article. ((I don't even subscribe to it myself.)) I'll see if I can find away around that...

Oh great find, Kim!!!
Yes, that wrapped up the day nicely. I'm happy. Thanks Bernadette.
Dale..
Well I struck out on even getting a paper yesterday. Went to three gas stations, CVS, Starbucks and started to drive to a grocery store but sorry...just not that motivated after being in and out of the car in this heat. I can see the picture online and the first statement...but you will have to email us the "rest of the story"...we will stay tuned.
good to see all the pics. Action in Lizella, finally. In spite of the heat and drought.
problems sending pictures...
