Miscellaneous Propagation Questions

Choo, the perennials need the rest time during the winter. It isn't really their active growing cycle. You can however grow them under heat and lights with a constant temperature and daylight/dark ratio. I root a lot of things over the winter, but don't actively start new plant. ( I usually don't have enough room in my greenhouse.) There is some good info in some old propagation books. Try it out. You may just start a new way of growing extras.

Hello everyone,

I am new on DG and I have been trying to figure out what to do with a stem off of a Adenium Obesium "dessert rose".But I don't know if maybe I'm posting in the wrong place or the wrong way because I haven't gotten a reply.

I hope someone will be able to tell me what to do or what my options are!!!

When I received it in March it was just a straight tall, thin trunk.By the end of the summer it had 3 new limbs, leaves and was doing great. It went dormant when I brought it in this fall.I have it on a dresser next to a window, kind of out of the way.

I reached across it trying to get a plant sitting in the window and had a spasm,( I have MS) and my arm knocked one of the little green limbs off.I cut it off clean and laid it out to callous but I have to hurry and do something with it.

Can I put it in some peat or perlite or any potting medium and root it? Will it root from the limb at all?

I appreciate anyone's advice or help!!!

thank you so much

Hi Jojoe, Welcome to the forums. I think you will like it here.
I don't know a lot about adenium as I have just recently started growing them, but I found this article for you that may help.

Thank you very much for the link Linda !!

The desert Rose was almost dead when I got it from my daughter. She has no interest in plants what so ever she forgets not just to water them, but that she even has them I believe.

I would love to end up with 2 but I hate that I broke it in the first place.

You have a nice day !!!

Hi Jo

I'm not ignoring you, I just don't know what to do. I guess it's hardwood or semi-hardwood? Not a green and soft stem?

Hello Corey,

I know I'm not being ignored! This was a difficult situation with a delicate plant.I have been googling it and even posted the same question on another forum and I only got an answer here!!

The link above has a lot of information on the desert rose plant.I learned a lot from it.

It was nice talking with you, I hope you have a pleasant day.
