What ever happened to...

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Didn't miss it till it's gone but what happened to the little box that hovered over the DGrs' name ~ telling us if they are a subscriber (or not) and for how long.

I did not realize how much I used it and how I hate to navigate away from the thread I am on. Course dialup probably has something to do with that.

Anyway, is it gone for good? A current DG glitch? Or my blessed computer? lol

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I miss it, too.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I still see it, so I wonder if it's your browser or a random glitch? Or if you're on dialup maybe it's just slow to show up? I have a fast internet connection and it still takes it a second to show up after I move the mouse over their name, so on dialup I imagine it could take a bit longer. I have a Mac so I don't have Internet Explorer, but I tried in Firefox as well as Safari and in both of them it works for me.

Rosemont, ON(Zone 4a)

I'm on dial-up with Internet Explorer, and the box shows up for me, so that's not causing the problem.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

I'm on DSL and the box doesn't show up for me either.

podster - you can always hover over the name, right click, and then click on "Open in a New Tab," "Open in a New Window," or whatever your browser calls it. That will open a new tab or window and you'll still have your old window open.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Faeden ~ this old dog will try to remember that new trick! lol

I need to try it in Firefox and see what I get...

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

It's still there...maybe something in your browser settings?

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

It's been gone for a long time for me. I regularly delete my Temporary Internet Files and cookies and restart my computer. I don't know what else to do.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I can see it too. Though I have to hold it over the exact right place to get it to show so maybe try a few places over it.

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

mine still works fine. i put the cursor right in the middle of the name and the box pops up.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Touch the name anywhere & it shows. On mine the name turns from blue to red when it pops up.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

One thing to note - it only works on names next to forum posts. If you try it in dmail, it won't work.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

I still get that little info box when I hover my cursor over the name.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

I don't see it either. We have broadband (plenty fast). We use Internet Explorer, although we have Firefox installed and available for when we want/need it.

I don't remember ever seeing it so I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to be seeing. I clear my browser often. . . usually a couple of times a week, so that isn't an issue.

If I move my curser over the name it always turns red, but no "box" pops up.

I tried faeden's suggestion of "right-click and open a new tab". That works fine and is kind of handy for checking a member's journal, threads, etc., but I still don't see the "elusive box".

Just to show you what a dummy I am, I thought you had to be a "paid subscriber" to actually "post" in a forum.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I have popup blockers on my Firefox, but I still get the boxes - my guess is it's something in your browser settings that is preventing you from seeing the name and info pop up.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

You know, since I don't remember ever seeing it, I don't miss it. Funny how that works...

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

nuts, after i post this, put the cursor on my name to the left. does my name turn red? if it does, just wait a few more seconds and see if my subscriber info pops up. if it doesn't turn red, then you have a glitch somewhere.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

trackinsand . . .love your user name! The names have always turned red when I place the curser over them. I just don't see any "box". That's okay, like I said, it's hard to miss what you never had (or at least I think I never had).

As far as "glitches" in my computer. . .I thought that was the purpose of computers. . . to deal with one glitch after another. Otherwise life would be too easy...

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

hmmm, that is just weird! it's not really a box, i guess, just a thing that says when a person first joined and if they are a subscriber or not.
ah yes, we don't want life to get too easy! LOL

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Well ~ I've jumped thru the above hoops and still no info box.

Dial up here but I've tried both FF and IE. I've moved the cursor right to left on the name and left to right. I've waited a fair amount of time for it to pop up. No success...

Perhaps the little guy behind the curtain that holds up the signboards is on vacation.

I hate to say this but I think for me, it correlated with "the tweak" which I did like.

I guess this will be one of lifes' mysteries in the computer world for me.

Thanks anyway...

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

never knew it was there, when I place my cursor over the name all it does is change from blue color to red color, no info ever pops up. We have fast, fast internet connection. Besides what does the speed of internet connection have to do with seeing something?

Jan

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I don't know, Jan, but I see you signed up on November 5, 2005, and you are a subscriber.

Melbourne, FL

That has never worked for me either. Turns red, but nothing else.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Well! Glad I am not alone in this (but I used to have it).

Am hoping to soon be moving into the twentieth century with a faster internet service. We'll see if that was where it was hiding.

Odd how it works for some and not for others...

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Since some people with fast connections aren't seeing the box either it makes me think it probably has something to do with browser settings. I'm not sure which setting--it's not truly a popup so I don't think it has to do with the popup blocker but maybe some other setting?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I could be wrong, but I think the mouse hovers are in java script. Try checking your browser settings to see if you have java script enabled.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I used to get the little box popping up but no longer. I do have Java Script enabled and it gets updated every week. When I put the curser over the name it turns red and that is all tht happens.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Ardesia, what browser?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Explorer 9

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

It looks like that may be a bug with I.E.9:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie9-windows_7/ie9-hover-to-preview-tabs/e604e8a5-9dfa-4169-a7c6-3ddd1527c179 - you can try following the steps outlined and see if that helps.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

The "show preview" option, nor anything that sounds like it, does not come up when I follow those directions. It is no biggie, I have never found it to be a problem, it is just different these days.

So, I am still using the same computer/browser but today got hi speed installed. And trying this tonight, in the bottom left hand corner of the screen it has a box that says

Quoting:
http://davesgarden.com/members/podster/
and that is new!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I've always gotten that particular one. Even when on dial-up.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

How odd, for no apparent reason, it has resurfaced.
Those of you that didn't have it, do you have it now?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Still nothing here.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

DH downloaded a different antivirus program yesterday. Perhaps that did it?

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Bet it has something to do with my browser, Firefox. Rebooting often solves a lot of quirky problems, computers, go figure!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Sue ~ I am glad to have it back.
Like an old friend but I didn't realize how much I missed it till it was gone.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow. . .I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden I have the elusive BOX when I hold the curser over anyone's user name!!

I stopped checking since it never seemed to change, but this morning I clicked on my own user name so it would turn Green. I do that sometimes to easily find my own posts within a thread. Only this time instead of turning Green it turned Black, soooo. . .just for the fun of it I held my curser over my own name and... SURPRISE...it told me I was a subscriber and listed the date I joined!

After that I started checking user names all over the site...boy is this fun!

So the BIG QUESTION is ...did you guys change anything other than making the user names Black, cause I know that I didn't?

This is so COOL!!

Edited to say: - "After I posted this my name turned Green like it always did...still have the Box, though...

The normally blue names turn red for me while the curser is held over them, but that is all that happens, still no box. :-(
