Do you wash the blueberries before freezing? Use ziplocs??

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nope and yes. We don't spray them w/chemicals so i take the hose and just rinse the entire bush off before I start picking. ^_^
I take a cookie sheet and place a single layer of berries on it, put it in the frig for half to a full hour. Then take them out and put them in ziplock bags to freeze for the winter.

I didn't plant the sunflowers. They just appeared in the garden with the tomatoes at my neighbors house. I wonder if he planted them as a surprise?

Appears they are kind of in a straight line. Doubt birds would drop that way.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Actually they were in four spots at the top, bottom and side of the tomato patch. I don't even own any sunflower seeds.

Thomaston, CT

Someone was very nice! Patti, Sherrie, & Pixie, your veggies are wonderful....those toms are making me drool. I had to buy some at the farmer's market this morning because mine are not ripening :>(

Picked last night as its raining today. Guessing around 60 lbs. Getting about a bushel every 2 days. Cherry tomatoes at least a gallon a day. I will never do this again - dead serious.

Use Patti's recipe for preserving the cherries.....

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

That recipe is great! We used it yesterday.

I only have 5 cherry plants and eat plenty while I'm outside, but still we had enough to cook! So far Sungold and Sweet Million are the winners. Fourth of July was not first this year and tastes watery compared to the others. Only one Brandywine has ripened so far and it was delicious. There are another dozen or so on their way... Maybe by next week...

Sherry, I can only imagine how you feel, buried under all those tomatoes. You'll have a lifetime supply - or go into business selling?

Next year I'll add a paste tomato for J, who loves to make sauce. Favorites, anyone?

Jen - I am tired. Belive me, I mean it. It took 6 years for me to come from no garden to this. I Have met my goal. I came on to DG and did not know a thing I was doing. (some will remember KILL run it over and dont start). With all the great help and knowdledge I have accomplished what I was out to do.

I do like all of you DG'ERS and have very very great respect. In return I cant say nothing but I will be gone. Tomorrow - no, 3 months - no. 6 months maybe. Not that I want to be but I can see my life going elsewhere.

Really I do care and Love you all. I will stick around for a while :-)

Just make sure you go where there is internet!!

Thomaston, CT

Wherever you go Sherrie, we'll want to hear your stories!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

What they said.

East Bridgewater, MA

Stay in touch, you're a garden trooper.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Just passed out 8 cucumbers at work. Whew! Dodged the bullet on that one.

Thomaston, CT

Just pickled 4 pints of garlic dills....will do a few pints of bread & butter next.....

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Picked a little bunch of Buffalo grapes. Last year I have 5 pounds from that vine but I moved it into a bigger pot this years and lost some roots in the process. Next year I hope to make grape jelly again.

Thomaston, CT

Yum! Am not familiar with Buffalo grapes....anything like the Concords?

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Exactly, except smaller.

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

So unlike Buffalo Chicken. :)

Amherst, NY(Zone 6a)

I was going to say...are Buffalo grapes related to Buffalo wings? LOL

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Picked the first cantaloupe yesterday, Brian had it for a snack last night. He said it was sweet and juicy!

Thomaston, CT

Yum! I never had much luck with melons, & now my garden is too small....

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Marilyn - you could grow them on the fence. I once made slings for the fence melons out of panty hose.

Thomaston, CT

I'd have to dig up the grass around the fence, but I hate mowing it anyway!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Robin I have one of these and use it for cukes, works great! Im sure it could be used for melons too. :)

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I also have an old wooden ladder covered with chicken wire that I grow cucumbers on - it would work for small melons with a little added support for them.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

hey Celeste someone on the other site said these cages were good too.. much cheaper I think
http://tomatocage.com/

and I ate my first fig today!!!.. boy was it good.. there are several more... not bad for a 3' tree

Thomaston, CT

Thanks, Pixie, Memory, & Allison....gives me some options! Yum, fresh figs!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Those are amazing tomato cages!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I thought about ordering some for next year to see if I like the gardeners supply ones or those better.. the square ones from gardeners are great.. but can get rusty in the joints .. those claim no rust

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

I've got a cucumber growing! I can't wait till it's ready to pick.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I stuffed three cucumbers in the mailman's bag.

Thomaston, CT

Aw.....that's so nice, Memory......

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL
